breaking news from south san jose where a grass fire that broke out near homes has been just put out. it is here highway 101. it raced uphill towards homes. cal fire dropped retardant on the fire. fire crews say it burned seven acres, but is now under control. the fire was started by a vehicle traveling on highway 101.

now to our other top story. reaction from across the country to a deadly day of protests and counterprotests in virginia. >> the hate and the division must stop. and must stop right now. >> a call from president trump to restore order after this hate fueled and violent day. now, you just saw video of a car that plowed into a grop out of u counterprotesters in charlottesville, virginia today. it start ed during a demonstration called unite the right to protest the removal of a confederate statue at the university of virginia. one person is dead from the crash captured here from another angle on cell phone video and we've just learned two more people died in a helicopter crash also connected to the protest. alanna is monitoring the latest developments from washington. >> hi there, eric. in addition to those three fa fatalities, five people still remain in critical condition. the police are treating this as a homicideinvestigation.

the usually quiet college town in charlottesville, virginia, turned into chaos. white nationalists clashing with counterproteste counterprotesters, upset over the decision to remove a statue from a downtown park. when suddenly, a car barrelling down the street rammed into counterprotesters, running them over. others forced to jump out of the way. >> you could see people laid out on the street, paramedics working on them. people wrapping up their legs. >> the mayor saying in a statement, i am heartbroken that a life has been lost here. i urge all people of good will go home. virginia's governor declare iin state of emergency. the crowd ordered to disperse. >> leave the area now or you will be arrested. >> president trump condemning the violence, but urging both groups to set aside their differences. >> this has been going on for a long, long time. it is no place in america, what is vital now is a swift

>> do you feel like you're a danger to this community and what do you want folks to know. >> i'm a not a danger. >> police will be watching and asking neighbors to do the same. cornell bernard, abc p news. zblmpblt b.a.r.t. police are looking for suspects in three robberies of personal electronics within about an hour last nigh. the first happeneded at the montgomery station in san francisco just after 8:00. police say a man snatched at man's iphone and ran off the train. about a half hour later, two mep stole a man's ipad. after 9:00 at the west oakland station, two teenage boys armed with a stun gun stole his mac book laptop. firefighters are making a lot of progress containing a grass fire that broke out in napa county yesterday afternoon. the canyon fire burned 114 acres p and is now 60% contained. more than 300 firefighters helped to extinguish that blaze. a smoky grass fire that broke out yesterday near morgan hill is now 70% contained.

the tilton fire charred is 00 acres. there's good news for visitors to two east bay lakes that were closed due to toxics algae. it has reopened to the public today. it along with corey lakes in fremont have been off limbs for several months because of an outbreak of toxins. after recent water tests, parks officials determineded it was safe enough for humans and pets to go back into the water. we've been seeing cooler than normal weather for this time of year. lisa joins us with a look at the forecast. >> hi there. eric, yes, that's right. little clearing at the shoreline and temperatures are looking pretty comfortable. we're at the 70s around the bay. 80s inland. i'll talk about cooler weather headed our way in just a few minutes. >> plus, stealing from an injured veteran. >> they had to have known i'm taking something special from b somebody. >> the plea from a northern

a security incident has led to at least two hour delays at the airport this afternoon. the incident happened in terminal a at the airport. the mercury news reported prohibited items may have passed the check point. passengers were asked to go through a security screen iing once again. it's used by american, united, delta, hawaiian, jet blue and several other international carriers. abc 7 was at a creative refuse center. since it was founded in 1975, scrap has rescued materials headed for the dump and made them available to teachers at no cost. today's event is the first in a series of ten give aways during the school year.

we certainly have low clouds and fog at the shoreline, a comfortable day, but boy, no sun for golden gate park. nice view of the watt r r here, but if you notice, we are socked in with the gray skies and as a result, temperatures were below average today. we're going to keep that trend going and in fact, get even cooler. as we go through the early part of the week, so here's a look at the fog from point reyes down to san francisco and we get out of the fog, temperatures are nice, but the fog is only going to deepen. the reason why, an area of low pressure here to the north and west of us. this will allow for the low clouds and fog to reach inland and allow for our afternoon highs to be well below average. tomorrow though, we're talking about a lot of the same. so, if you likeded today, you like tomorrow. beautiful shot from emoryville now. 72 in san jose. 61, half moon bay from the golden gate bridge. as soon as you get over the bridge, you see the clearing
