compassion. >> reporter: including heather higher, a 32-year-old paralegal from virginia was killed when a car plowed through a crowd. >> heather was a strong person who always defended what she believed in. and heather's life was not about hate. >> reporter: the suspected driver, 20-year-old james alex fields jr. from ohio now sits in jail, charged with murder. meanwhile, the man who organized the unite the right demonstration -- >> i was the organizer of the unite the right rally -- >> reporter: tried to hold a press conference today to no avail. unstead, heckled by counterprotesters and ultimately escorted away by police in riot gear. this as the virginia governor continues to denounce and condemn the supporters of right supremacy. >> to white supremacists and neo-nazis who came to our

beautiful state today, there is no place for you here. >> reporter: and anti-violence vigils and rallies are held across the country honoring the victims. and tonight this clarification from the white house. a statement which read in part, the president said yesterday he condemns all forms of violence and hatred. of course, he includes white supremacists, kkk, neo-nazis and all extremist groups. reporting live from charlottesville, virginia, elizabeth hur for abc7 news. back to you. >> thank you very much. demonstrators have been on the move since this afternoon in san francisco. abc7 reporter alyssa harrington has been walking with them, live tweeting videos like this. she joins us from civic center plaza where more demonstrators are beginning to gather. >> reporter: the bay area is bracing for a second night of protests and vigils. here in san francisco, one just wrapped up. we saw a group marching down market street.

here is some video of that from a little earlier today. the group marched down market street. they started in the mission and chanted "rise up for charlottesville." many held signs credititicizing president donald trump. the march did stay peaceful. those in the bay area are coming together to show solidarity for victims in virginia. those are facing off with white nationalists holding a unite the right demonstration. tonight will also hold a vandal light vigil. they are asking people to bring candles or flashlights and light up the whole plaza in unity. there are barriers up in front of city hall. they want to keep this protest outside. elissa harrington, abc7. there have been rallies all over the bay area. cornel bernard has been tracking them and he joins us live from oakland. >> reporter: eric, solidarity

rally just wrapped up in downtown oakland. another one is scheduled to begin in the next hour. in fact, folks are gathering for that right now. police making an appeal for the protest to be peaceful as folks speak out against the violence in virginia. people gathered in oakland to condemn the ugly race-fueled clashes they saw unfold on tv. but many activists were not surprised. >> these people with the aspiration to do massive harm across lines. >> reporter: other i sass the response to the violence by president trump was unacceptable. >> he wouldn't condemn white supremacy or neo-nazis or fascism but said many sides were to blame for what happened yesterday. ♪ ♪ turn us around >> reporter: people in the south bay taking a stand against white supremacy in charlottesville. >> too many people are dying and too many people who look like me

aren't doing anything about it. >> reporter: she held a picture of heather, killed by a speeding car at the rally. she says the violence must stop. >> it just adds onto a long history of violence against people of color, against women. >> white nationalism says you have to be a white christian to be an american. we know that's not true. >> reporter: this rally organized by east san jose. father john brought some of his congregation members to demonstrate. >> we saw what happened in charlottesville was horrible. it's a direct attack against our faith values. those first tax were clergy. >> reporter: in novato, many gathered in solidarity with the victims. >> we're all with charlottesville. >> reporter: people say their stand against hate will continue. more protests are scheduled in the future. in oakland, cornell bernard,

hurt. >> nobody was hurt. everyone is fine. just the material. just the house. but that can be rebuilt and everything, but our health, ourselves, our lives, it can't be rebuilt. >> the two people inside the bmw ran from the scene. the pickup driver was detained by police after the crash. it's not clear whether drugs or alcohol played a role. firefighters are wrapping up operations in napa county. the canyon fire has burned 114 acres of grassland and is now 95% contained. firefighters are conditioning to strengthen and control lines and work interior hot spots. the cause of that fire is under investigation. activists rallied in front of the west county jail in north richmond calling for an end of deportations. they chose to rally in front of the jail because they accuse kus the contra costa agencies of working with i.c.e. agency in

new details tonight about a theft in the north bay. lots of donations are coming in for a marine recruiter and his family who had a u-haul truck with all their belongings stolen. rafael adana relocated to san jose last month with his wife and 4-year-old daughter. they arrived late at night and parked the u-haul van near their apartment. in the morning it was gone. the marines are helping the family replace the items they

been breezy as well. you've probably been enjoying the break from the heat. low clouds and fog. drizzle for monday morning. maybe even some measurable precip down around the peninsula. partly cloudy and cooler tomorrow by the afternoon. some of you may not clear at all. i'm thinking around the san mateo coast, sfo. it will be stubborn fog but temperatures will rebound and recover as soon as tuesday. 56 in san francisco tonight. low cloud deck very generous overnight. your hour-by-hour forecast, notice the green here. some mist, some drizzle, light showers around redwood city, mountainview. we clear early in the north bay tomorrow. it's the south bay and peninsula stuck with the cloud cover. san jose tomorrow, well, we should be in the 80s. how about 74. then we recover into tuesday and get up to near average for thursday and friday into next weekend. highs tomorrow from the low 60s with high clouds and some breezy winds along the coast.
