>> announcer: live where you live, this is abc7 news. >> black lives matter! black lives matter! >> marchers here in the bay area tonight say they're using love to try to neutralize the hate exemplified by protesters in charlottesville, virginia. several cities in the bay area took part in a nationwide show of solidarity tonight for the victims caught in the charlottesville chaos. this comes as we learn new information about the driver who is now charged with murder. abc news report elizabeth herr is in charlottesville with the new details. >> reporter: from charlottesville to our nation's capital and cities across the country, a rally for unity and prayers for the victims. and this is new video of 20-year-old james fields jr. seen with a known white

from charlottesville. they're visiting san francisco, and they told me since they can't protest at home, they wanted to join a demonstration with others here. >> we knew it was happening. we just didn't know how bad it was going to be. >> reporter: kristen bream and her family are visiting san francisco from charlottesville, a town thrust into the national spotlight. the center of violent clashes between white nationalists and counterprotesters. kristen, her husband, and two teenage boys joined hundreds of people at a solidarity protest outside city hall. they say racism has no place in their town, and it has been hard to watch from a distance. >> i was glad we were not there to experience it, but it was hard seeing the posts and the pictures and the fear from my friends on facebook. >> it's very distressing. we know those locations where the car ran over the people. i mean we've gone there many times. that's right downtown, and, yeah, it's very disturbing. you wonder what we're going to find when we get back. >> reporter: demonstrators used

candles and flashlights to light up civic center plaza. one woman carried a sign that said "hero" with a picture of heather heyer, the protester killed by a speeding driver. earlier, demonstrators marched through the city. many waved flags and held signs denouncing racism. some blamed president donald trump for dividing the country. >> every single person on this hear earth needs love. >> reporter: a similar rally took place in lathe am square for the second day in a row. protesters gave speeches and lit candles calling for peace and unity. elissa harrington, abc7 news. in the south, civil rights supporters came together tonight in a solidarity vigil. they gathered outside san jose city hall in a peaceful rally to unite against racism and white supremacy. organizers say they're seeking to end racial injustice and encourage people to speak out and commit to action. more support from charlottesville came from the east bay.

about 100 people held a candlelight vigil at adobe park in castro valley to show what love and tolerance can do. they were encouraged to bring candles to signify peace and hope. there's an outpouring of condolences to remember the three victims of yesterday's violence. they include heather heyer and two v state troopers killed in a helicopter crash near charlottesville. lieutenant h.j. cullen and berke bates. the 32-year-old hier was a paralegal who took up a spekd job as a waitress. over the phone, her mother spoke of the tragic loss. >> heather's life was not about hate. and this young man who ran my daughter down mistakenly believed that hate would change the world. >> and look at this heartfelt moment in charlottesville today. people stopped and applauded stat troopers as they walked down main street in that city, paying tribute to the two law enforcement officers who were killed. 35 others were injured in the crash and in the clashes.

a berkeley restaurant says it does not support the actions of those in charlottesville. top dog posted a sign with its views after a flurry of social media posts suggested a man at the rally worked at top dog. the restaurant says as of yesterday, that man is no longer an employee. abc7 news reporter melanie woodrow has the story. >> reporter: employees at top dog on durant avenue said they had no comment about a now former employee who may have been in charlottesville. >> different people were releasing the people's names and looking at their faces and trying to see, okay, where are they from? someone said, oh, he works here in berkeley. >> reporter: a sign on the restaurant's door says effective saturday, 12th august, cole white no longer works at top dog. the actions of those in charlottesville are not supported by top dog. we believe in individual freedom and volunteary association for everyone. several uc berkeley students stopped by the restaurant to take pictures of the sign. >> i feel like it's good they're taking a stand against this kind of stuff.

take part in immigration raids, nor do they carry out deportations. the search is on tonight for a killer after someone stabbed a man to death in milpitas. police were called to a business on windsor street shortly after midnight where they found the man dead. they say the 54-year-old was stabbed a number of times. they have not released his name. investigators are asking for any possible witnesses to come forward. new details at 11:00. the attorney for the 18-year-old woman accused of driving drunk and live streaming a fatal crash says worn tires may be to blame for the wreck. abdul ya sanchez's lawyer says the worn tires led to a blowout, which caused the crash that left sanchez's 14-year-old sister dead in merced county last month. prosecutors say sanchez was intoxicated and drove distracted. sanchez was live-streaming on her phone during the crash. she is charged with six felonies including gross vehicular manslaughter. seven people in union city are out of their home tonight after a car plowed through their duplex. investigators think a car and a pickup truck were street racing

police in pleasanton are accused of violently attacking a homeless man. it happened around 11:30 friday night as the man was sleeping under the bridge at stone ridge avenue and arroyo mocho. the injured man flagged down help at a nearby apartment complex. he's expected to be okay. new details tonight in a

theft in the north bay. lots of donations are coming in for a marine recruiter and his family who were targeted by thieves. pictures from wine country marine show sergeant rafael adama and his family with lots of donations. they relocated to santa rosa last month when someone stole the moving van with everything they own inside. after today, they have new furniture for their dining room, bedroom and living room, plus about $3,000 they also received. a college kicker from kansas got a scholarship in the most heartwarming way imaginable. abc ne abc news -- >> reporter: university of minnesota's new coach, p.j fleck showed up with a surprise play and a special guest. kyle tanner, a patient at u.m.'s children hospital. coach asked him who his favorite player was. >> justin juenemann. >> reporter: justin juenemann, a walk-on third string kicker who has never played a single down.

the pop star told the audience that he's donating $1 million to address the water crisis in flint, michigan. the money will come from revenue from his sold-out concert tour. flint's water crisis started three years ago. three people died and thousands were exposed to water that was contaminated with lead. >> announcer: now your accuweather forecast with lisa argen. >> hi, everyone. hope you enjoyed the day. it was nice inland, but certainly breezy and kind of cool around the bay. a pleasant afternoon for most. take a look at live doppler seven. the fog has moved in quickly to our east bay. it's going to move out just as quickly out of the north bay, but the higher clouds are going to linger into much of the afternoon for the peninsula and the south bay. let's go in a little bit closer. live doppler 7, you can see the fog around 680, san ramon, 580, oakland, emeryville, down towards fremont already, and of course all of san francisco shrouded in the fog. as we go towards half moon bay, wouldn't be surprised to see

some mist and drizzle throughout the evening hours and the overnight hours. so the culprit is this area of low pressure. pretty strong for this time of year. a fall-like system bringing just a little bit of rain into washington state. our friends up in seattle got a few spritzes of rain, but this is not going to bring us much. maybe a couple hundredths along the coast, but the winds are beginning to dial back. they were quite gusty throughout the afternoon. still a little breezy in concord at 20 miles per hour. an hour and three minute delays at sfo. it's been quite a day there. as we look once again at the golden gate bridge, yeah, it is really pea soup out there. be careful. take your time. use your low beams. looking at temperatures already in the upper 50s in san francisco, so dropping quickly. 61 in oakland. gilroy, you're at 62. half moon bay, boy, it seems for months now you have been stuck in the 60s with just very little sunshine. so by the middle to the end of the week, we'll see what we can

who is facing backlash for his response to the violence. today the white house clarified his statement using words that he has yet to say in public. abc news reporter david wright has the latest. >> reporter: today the white house struggled to shore up the president's equivocal response to charlottesville. >> we condemn in the strongest possible terms this egregious display of hatred, bigotry, and violence on many sides. on many sides. >> reporter: of course that includes whut supremacists, kkk, neo-nazi, and all extremist groups and unnamed white house official explained today. but trump has yet to call them out for inciting the violence in virginia. today the president's national security adviser sat down with george stephanopoulos. >> do you consider that car attack in charlottesville yesterday an act of domestic terrorism? >> i certainly think anytime that you commit an attack against people to incite fear, it is terrorism. >> reporter: but the president has yet to say so himself.

gonzalez tells us, asking one question saves some cash. >> reporter: two pharmacy giants, cvs and walgreens accused of letting some customers pay more than they needed to for certain generic medications. >> the lawsuit is a clarion call fr consumers to go and ask their pharmacists am i getting the best price? would i be better off in i just paid cash? >> reporter: two lawsuits filed this week claim the pharmacies failed to inform customers when they could pay less for prescriptions by not using insurance. in the cvs suit, one plaintiff claims she bought a generic drug for a nearly $166 co-pay through her insurance but cvs never told her she could pay $92, the full retail price. the pharmacies often work with middle men, pbms. when the co-pay is higher than the retail price, the lawsuit claims that extra money can go back to the middlemen, what's known as a claw back. cvs tells abc news co-pays are determined by a patient's prescription coverage plan, not

by the pharmacy, and that it's own pbm does not engage in the practice of co-pay clawbacks. cvs and wall greeps say the lawsuits have no merit. in many cases, pharmacists can't volunteer information about pricing but you can ask, and they can look up both prices to tell you what's the best deal. marcy gonzalez, abc news, los angeles. amazon is refunding some customers who bought solar eclipse glasses. the problem, well, amazon can't confirm the glasses come from a reputable manufacturer, and they may not comply with industry standards. amazon is no longer selling the affected glasses. those who did buy them will receive an e-mail and a refund. to safely view the solar eclipse on august 21st, you'll need a special pair of ultra dark sunglasses. for information about the eclipse and where you can watch it, go to abc7news.com, we have an entire page dedicated to it. american idol is coming to abc7 this fall. auditions will be held in oakland next sunday. the american idol bus will be in jack london square giving you

rough. got the line, perfect speed. he's 8 under, has a one-shot lead. kevin kisner makes birdies on 14 and 15 to get back to 7 under, but bogies 6 here. thomas a two-shot lead. he adds to that on the 17th. drops this tough birdie putt. has a three-shot lead. he's won three times this year and despite this bogey on 18, he wins his first major title. your 99th pga champion, ladies and gentlemen, justin thomas. >> obviously as a kid growing up, being a golf fan, you want to win all the majors. you want to win any major. for me, i mean the pga definitely had a special place in my heart. and maybe a special drive, i guess you could say. like i said, i want to win every tournament i play in. i want to try to win every major. but at the end of the day, this was really cool for this to be my first one and have my dad here and i know grandpa was watching at home. i was able to talk to him, and that was pretty cool. it's just a great win for the
