and you saw that video of that monument in north carolina coming down. well, now a woman may face felony charges after admitting that she helped bring down the confederate statue in durham. 22-year-old takiyah thompson was arrested, and she says that she'd do it again. thompson was part of a group that toppled the 93-year-old mon many. she says confederate statues represent white supremacy. and former president obama's response to the charlottesville violence is now the most liked tweet ever. in a message about learning to love rather than hate, obama shared a quote from former south african president nelson mandela saying, no one is born hating another person because of the color os achif r religion. >> and so far the tweet has earned 3 million likes. it's also the fifth most retweeted tweet ever. the alabama gop senate race is heading to a september election runoff. luther -- sena rather, luther strange will fatece fneitorhemer r al candidate won a majority in

survivors. at least 700 others are missing. and at least 245 people have been killed in flooding and mudslides triggered by a monsoon across northern india, southern nepal and bangladesh. and over in portugal, the collapse of a towering oak tree has killed at least 13 people on the island of madeira. nearly 50 others were injured. it happened during a gathering outside a church for a popular catholic celebration. the tree was reportedly more than 200 years old. why it collapsed. here at home, a mother of three reportedly suffered a broken neck when a giant tree fell on her and her children in new york's central park. the tree's roots were ripped right out of the ground as 39-year-old ann goldman tried to shield her sons. one boy suffered a fractured skull while the other two had only cut and bruises. officials are still investigating to try to uncover what caused that tree to fall. some 14 states will be in the path of a great american solar eclipse now just five days away. >> but there's growing warnings

the chp says it's a high priority for them to take a stop to these shootings. take a look at this familiar video associated with these highway shootings. cars at a standstill. that's because they have to shut down all the lanes of traffic, all the lanes of the highway as they gather evidence. this was northbound 880 in hayward, south of highway 92. niis was around 10:00 last got a call that someone was b autngti the of a car window passenger was hit with glass. we asked if this shooting could possibly be related to the one that happenedn880 in san leandro. >> too early in the investigation to make any assumption that these shootings are connected in any way, shape, or form. at this point, we're turning it over to our investigative services unit, the shooting team, and they'll take the lead on the investigation. >> there were two people in the car that was being shot at.
