live where you live, this is abc 7 news. the chp is investigating the latest freeway shooting in the east bay. this time on interstate 880, just north of the shooting that happened on monday. and two teens are lucky to have escaped injury. thanks for joining us. last night's shooting highlights an alarming trend since the 100th freeway shooting in the east bay since late 2015. abc 7 news reporter amy hollyfield is live in hayward, amy. >> reporter: hi kristen, they are going from one case to the next. officers here at the hayward chp office tell me they were deep into their investigation last night on monday's san leandro

freeway shooting when they got the call that it had happened again. last night's freeway shooting on northbound 880 in hayward was the 100th freeway shooting in the bay area since november of 2015. >> it's unfortunate that it appears like now it's just common place. that it happens, you know, any given point in time on any night out here. >> reporter: no one was shot at 10:00 last night when a white car pulled up next to another car and a passenger leaned out and started shooting. >> for the amount of shots that were fired, we're quite lucky that this could have been much more serious. >> how many shots? >> several shots. >> reporter: the chp says it is doing everything within it's power to prevent and investigate these shootings. funding has been set aside to buy and install more cameras in contra costa county where most have happened. it is a partnership with the state and local officials. so the details of where and when those cameras will be in place are still being negotiated. but officials say, they need

drivers to help out too. saying information from witnesses has made the biggest difference in solving these cases. >> and that's the most important facet here, be a good witness. don't try to take action. you know on these individuals you never know who you're going to encounter out there. >> reporter: and they have a number set up, it's 1-800-tell-chp. if you have any information on any of these shootings. about last night's shooting, it's too early to tell what the motive was behind it and whether it was connected to monday's shooting in san leandro. live in hayward, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. >> thank you. new this morning, an investigation is under way after federal agents raided a home in oakland. sky 7 was over the scene on 27th street near san pablo avenue. immigration and customs enforcement officials along with homeland security issued a search warrant. they would only say this is part of an ongoing criminal case. convicted sex offender has

given up his attempt to move to rhoner park. police tell abc 7 news that daniel patrick civilly told them on monday he was returning to l.a. that's where he was found guilty of four sexual offenses. abc 7 news was in rhoner park over the weekend when we learned he was stayin at an apartment complex. police say they've been tracking silly on social media and it shows he's in skid row. he has until tomorrow to register as a sex offender in l.a. county. new details now about an east bay dental assistant accused of molesting at least five young girls while on the job. 24-year-old alejandro saro was scheduled to stand trial this week, but he decided over the weekend to take a plea deal instead. saro pleaded guilty to five felony counts of child molestation. he's scheduled to be sentenced on september 22nd, he faces 25 years to life in prison. fire officials say they

believe a fire that killed three people, including two children, was accidental. the fire broke out yesterday afternoon at golden wheel mobile home park. our media partner, the mercury news is reporting the victims were a grandfather and granddaughter along with another girl. her relationship to the family has not been determined. senator diane feinstein is speaking in support of an oakland couple whose time in the u.s. is running out. mariamen doe is a sanchez and her husband are scheduled to leave from mexico tonight. senator feinstein encouraged the couple to file another stay request yesterday. they did, but learned last night that it was denied. sanchez, her husband, and their 12-year-old son are planning to leave from sfo tonight, leaving their three u.s. citizen adult children behind. in a statement this morning, senator feinstein said, this is a travesty. plain and simple. an evidence that donald trump's immigration policy is nothing

more than a hateful, deportation program targeting law-abiding families. she also vowed to continue her fight for the family to bring them back to the u.s. where sanchez works as a cancer nurse. breaking news, new fallout from the violence in charlottesville, virginia, president trump just disbanded two business councils as he faces mounting resignations from business leaders upset over his response. the president tweetedless than an hour ago, rather than putting pressure on the business people of the manufacturing council and strategy forum, i'm ending both. thank you all. the tweet came after the ceo of 3m announced he was stepping down from the manufacturing council. he was the seventh member to resign this week. meantime, former presidents george bush and george w. bush issued a joint statement this morning condemning the racist violence in charlottesville. without naming president trump, the father and son write, america must always reject

she wanted equality. and in this issue of the day of her passing, she wanted to put down hate. >> in a tweet this morning, president trump calls heather hire a truly special young woman. heather's mother has declined to respond to the president's latest comments. so-called right wing rally is coming to san francisco despite opposition from city leaders. the national park service approved the permit for the rally, planned for saturday, august 26th, at krissy field. mayor ed lee is not pleased. he sent a letter expressing concern. >> we do not invite hate speech or hatred to come into our city, and to instigate not only hatred, but potential violence. >> the leader of patriot prayer, the group organizing the rally denies that it's a hate group and says he wants the demonstration to be peaceful.

plans to push back b.a.r.t.'s start time could begin sooner. the chronicle reports, b.a.r.t. directors are seriously considering making the switch later this year instead of late next year. currently b.a.r.t. starts rolling at 4:00 a.m. it would begin at 5:00. the agency needs more time overnight to renovate the system. consultants brought in by b.a.r.t. say there's no other way to perform the work without moving the start time. the change could last a whole decade. we have new details about b.a.r.t.'s efforts to stop fare evaders. they invited us to watch a sting at the station. b.a.r.t. officers stopped 12 suspected ferry vaders in daly city last night. four received citations, six were warned, and police arrested one of them. that followed police giving out ten citations and six warnings yesterday, violators face $250 fines. developing news off the

a search is on in hawaii for five soldiers after a army hospital crashed. they are focussing their efforts near a debris field off the coast. crews on the shore have joined searchers aboard boats and aircraft looking for the five soldiers who had been aboard the black hawk helicopter. the army says two chopper were taking part in a mission when one crashed late last night. woman who had gone missing in san leandro was just found safe minutes ago that 80-year-old peggy chambers is okay. she walked away from her apartment last night. officers haven't said where chambers was found. it's history in the making at san francisco bay's wells fargo. the bank is welcoming it's first

chairwoman, ever. elizabeth duke will help oversee wells fargo as a struggles with several controversies including it's fake account scandal. the 65-year-old will be the first woman to hold the position at a major wall street bank. duke is a former member of the federal reserve's governing board. she'll start her new job january 1st. it's back to school in the south bay. abc 7 news was in san jose this morning where students at willow glenn elementary arrived bright and early for the start of another exciting school year. in fact, today is the biggest back to school day of the year in the bay area. at least 40 local districts start class today, including antioch, san lorenzo, and san jose unified. students and parents say they're excited. >> because i like school and it's super fun. >> i'm going to be back with me friends. >> i'm excited. definitely. >> san jose unified is asking students and parents for their input. officials say they want to hear your ideas to keep san jose unified the most innovative

here. up in the north bay, see around the water, much cooler, napa, 76, 73, and the 76 in sonoma, further north, to about 80 in santa rosa. down in the south bay, 79 in san jose. 84 in the warm spots. about 76 and sunny valley. no worries, the sunshine. 73 at san mateo, palo alto, 76, only about 63 in half-moon bay. 71 in berkeley. and we've got 75 in union city. day game as we wrap up the series with the royals at the coliseum, 12:35 first pitch, 65 warming to 71. it'll feel 10 to 15 degrees warmer in the sunshine. downtown 66, 67 in the mission. richmond, 65, daly city only about 61 degrees. here's the way the next 12 hours break down. and temperatures pushing to the 80s inland. 60s at the coast at 4:00. just now starting to come off our highs.

60s at 8:00 and 50ur to mid-60s by 12:00 with clouds coming in late. in fact, you can see the bay's going to be cloudy, the coast, but insland going to be partly cloudy tonight. all right. so our warmest days are friday and saturday, so low 90s inland. 80s around the bay. we'll get there in a few neighborhoods, low to mid-60s at the coast. then we start to get cooler monday. normal lay it means a thicker marine layer, but right now the models are saying the marine layer could be washed out. the air could be that cool and that dry and sunny inland, prtly cloudy around the bay, still cloudy at the coast for the eclipse, which starts at 9:01 and peaks about 10:17, we have good news there for people in the bay. not so good news for people at the coast. >> drive east to get better viewing. >> absolutely. >> east and up. >> all right. >> always the best bet. keep us posted. thanks. more now on the rare solar eclipse just five days away as mike said. and how communities are preparing. authorities are issuing emergency warnings for the

estimated 12 million people already in it's path and the more than seven million expected to travel to see it. here's our reporter. >> reporter: hotels are full, flights with oversold and with millions of americans pouring into those few american cities with the best possible view of the coming eclipse, local police, hospitals, and emergency medical services in those cities are on high alert. >> all hands on deck enforcement strategies, and you know, patrol, deployment strategies. so, you know, we're kind of throw everything at it it. >> reporter: the number of visitors they're expecting is so large in some cities they're preempively declaring a state of disaster. it allows them to call in the national guard to help direct the masses of people. >> you know, police department in a certain area is overwhelmed and they need us to come help set you have traffic control check points, we're ready to do that. >> reporter: the state of oregon alone is expected to see a million visitors. some hospitals are cancelling elective surgeries, and calling in extra help for the emergency
