fired on the man. right now, you can see there's still a lot of police activity at a mobile home park. all of this started last night when police were called out to reports of a man acting strangely. officers arrived on scene, say they saw a man had a rifle who refused to obey their commands. he went back into his mobile home. officers say he fired several shots from inside the home. all while making suicidal statements. at some point, he caught the mobile home on fire. investigators say he pointed the shotgun at officers, then the officers shot and killed the man. okay, investigators not releasing the name of a man quite yet. matt keller is still there on scene. he'll have a live report at 6:30. >> thank you. president trump continues to lose backing from the business community following his comments on shared blame in charlottesville. yesterday, the president was forced to shut down his major business advisory councils amid an exodus of corporate leaders. a key advisory council of top

and also at novato high, the bell will be ringing at 8:00 this morning, as compared to 7:15 in the past. novato is now part of a growing trend. 400 other school districts in the country have switched to later start times for the older kids. many report better attendance and grades. >> i think all the research is pretty clear now that teenagers need more sleep at night. that their cycles are such that they need to go to bed at 11:00 or 12:00. that drove our decision. >> the changes could be coming to your school district. a california bill is pending in the senate that would change start times at all middle and high schools to after 8:30. this could cause come issues for working parents. novato administrators have said if parents need to drop their kids off earlier than this late start time, they can drop them here at the schools before 8:00. reporting live in novato, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. >> that would be the worst.

professor coming back and seeing the way the situation was dealt with, i would feel kind of unsafe. >> a professor's attorney released a statement to abc7 news claiming two third-party investigations cleared his client of wrongdoing. the statement reads in part, it's unfortunate that the rush to judgment before the facts were fully gathered has had a clear and lasting impact on the reputation. >> oakland police are trying to determine the cause of a crash that hurt six people. happened just before 9:00 last night on international boulevard near 55th avenue. the oakland fire department says some of the victims were trapped in their cars. that crash left two vehicles badly mangled. a stretch of the road was shut down for more than two hours. >> a woman who survived almost a month in the wilderness is opening up about exactly what happened. this morning, 25-year-old lisa is recovering from poison ivy, rashes, bug bites, and deep thorn scratches. she was found over the weekend. she said she survived by eating

for three miles. 580 if you want to take that to the maze unless you're in a truck. we still have restrictions for semis. a sig alert for southbound 280 off ramp to bunker hill road. that's closed along with the far left lane of the main line due to another collision. an update on the westbound highway four crash coming up. >> we have breaking news in the east bay. >> police investigating after a deadly officer-involved shooting overnight. reporter matt keller is live in livermore. matt. >> reporter: well, in the past 45 minutes, the alameda county coroner's office arrived on the scene, but they're not going to be able to do anything until this investigation is complete out here in this mobile home park. officers are still collecting evidence here on the scene. still a lot of questions to be answered about the shooting. in the past hour, a police spokesman told me multiple officers fired at the man. they haven't interviewed all the officer s so they're not releasing details on that. we know one man was killed and his home destroyed by fire.

officers got their first call around 8:50 from the sun valley mobile estates. people were reporting a man acting bizarrely and challenging people to a fight. officers arrived on the scene and said the man had a rifle and refused to obey their commands and went back into his mobile home. officers say he fired several shots from inside the home, all while making suicidal statements. >> after about two hours into the incident, the officers noticed smoke coming from the residence. pretty quickly noted that the residence was on fire. the subject came out to the front door, and when he came out, he was armed with a shotgun. >> reporter: investigators say he pointed the shotgun at officers and then officers shot and killed the man. this all happened as police were trying to evacuate nearby homes and alert others in the mobile home park to shelter in place. firefighters were able to put out the fire. police say no officers were injured and no one else was in the home. they're not released the name of the man. the district attorney's office is also on the scene

investigating this incident. reporting live in livermore, matt keller, abc7 news. >> thank you. developing news sane jose where a police officer went to the hospital following a crash. you can see the police cruiser with a big dent on the side. this happened about 1:20 this morning at white road and ocala. you can see a white car that ran off the road and has substantial damage to the front end of it. we put a call in to the department to get more information. >> overnight, hazmat crews worked to fix a propane lake. you can see the flaring over the refinery in martinez yesterday evening. crews responded to what's called a small leak. shell did not respond to our request for comment but did tweet out that the company experienc experienced, a quote, operational issue that resulted in intermittent flaring. >> protesters are accusing the sheriff's department of racist. several dozen people held signs and chanted outside the sheriff's office in lake merritt in oakland yesterday.

february. >> the man accused of violent unprovoked attacks on b.a.r.t. is due in court. police arrested mario washington after these videos were caught on b.a.r.t. he hit someone with bolt cutters and then hit someone else in the face. he has allegedly admitted his involvement in the attacks. >> pg&e is going to walk us through how it plans to handle the hit it will take during the eclipse on monday. the bay area will see a reduction of the sun's power by 75% during the eclipse. to make up for the brief but significant absence of full solar energy, pg&e has a few backup plans in case. pg&e will take the media on a tour of its concord distribution plant to explain the process later today. >> speaking of the eclipse, want to let you know that abc7 news is going to have you covered for the great american solar eclipse, including local reports right before abc's special coverage monday at 10:00 a.m.

david muir will anchor the special report. and the question come monday morning for the partial solar eclipse, what will the sky look like. here's the early call out. i want to show you what we have, this map put together. three colors. green, meaning clear skies. yellow meaning a mixture of clouds and sunshine, and red meaning totally overcast. as the eclipse begins at 9:00 in the morning, yellow on the screen, meaning patchy cloud cover. not the greatest in viewing conditions. by 10:15 when we're at 75% of our sun being covered, you notice that clear for most, but i would say this is a little ambitious getting the cloud cover to clear. i would say at the coast, get as far away as you can. future weather, hour by hour forecast today. that fog pulling back by 9:00. 60s and 70s, and look at this. by 1:00 in the afternoon, really comfortable around the bay. lots of 70s around the immediate waters and our warmest spots later on going into the 80. an august beauty for sure. a lot of folks, they're driving
