they have had trespassing charges against them. most must appear in court on september 12th. if they fail to answer those charges an arrest warrant will be issued. the faa makes changes at sfo after an american airway jet just missed sitting on a plane. it no longers visual approaches at sfo at night when an parallel runway is closed. federal officials say that will make it easier for pilots to find the right oneway and now they'll require two controllers to remain during the busy offnight hours. s.m.a.r.t. has said they'll start offering.

>> in morin county, abc7 news. a new police chief has promised to reduce crime on b.a.r.t. first he must hire more officers. abc's laura anthony has more. laura? >> reporter: kristen, the new chief thinks he can take a big bite out of crime if he can put more officers on the trains and platforms, but first he has to fill more than 40 positions. it's a problem for police here and across the country. a startling decline in applicants with b.a.r.t. competing with other departments. that means their recruiting efforts must become that much more aggress in. >> we're trying to incentivize it. >> these why he brought his recruiting team to this event in san francisco.

stocks had their second worst drop of the day. retailers an banks brought down the number. the dow lost 274 points, ending the day at 21.750. the nasdaq dropped 123 points, the s&p went down by 38.

in half. >> we have the resources to back it up. >> the state public utilities commission says much of the demand during the eclipse will be met with otherer clean energy sources. natural gas and high trow electric power. >> we'd like to help customers conserve the load by conserving. >> they're asking you to turn off the lights and unplug unused electronic appliances leading up to and during the eclipse. >> on august 19th, many customers are going to see their thermostats light up. >> they'll help you reduce the load on the nerj eclipse. >> if they're in the eligible area, they'll be invited to eclipse. >> they'll have a choice to opt in. if they do, the thermostat will

eclipse monday. right now we're looking at overnight lows which will be in the mild side. upper 60s to low 50s. we won't see a lot of fog during the overnight hours. tomorrow's beach cast calls for flashes of sunshine. santa cruz will see a high of 72 and highs in the mids to upper 60s and breezy. let's travel down to the south bay under sunny skies. we'll see a wide range of higher temperatures there to 89 down at morgan hill. on peninsula, we'll see upper 70. breezier on the coast as i mentioned but relatively mild in the mid 60s. downtown will top out at 66. tomorrow look for highs of 82. novato, 84.

the inland east bay will be tomorrow our highest region with highs in the upper 80s to low 90s william o see upper 80s to around inland. >> on sunday, slight cooling. we'll see further cooling on monday especially our inland areas where temperatures will reach into the low to mid-80s. here's the seven-day forecast. gradual cooling. let's just focus on monday for just a second. right now we're looking at mostly sunny skews. it appears the clouds will not obscure our view. >> after all this buildup, that would be 1usuch a bummer.

>> family members say it's a long overdue occurrence. >> reporter: karen fulton folin is a parent who lost her son to aids more than 20 years ago after receiving years of treatment for hemophilia. >> back in those days it was a poor stigma, so our poor little community of hemophilia people had nowhere to go or no one to tell their story. located within the national aids memorial growth, a new circle is being bullet to remember that community. it will be called the hemophilia memorial. the names of those with a blood disorder who died of aids will be engraved in the stone. >> the space that we're standing in will have a seated bench. it will be all minnesota limestone which matches all the rest of the memorial. so this is just another circle within a circle. >> it will be similar to the circle of friends which is

those are the shots that ended a standoff in livermore after several hours during which the suspect set fire to his own home. that suspect was killed. >> no one else was hurt. neighbors did have to evacuate sun mobile estates in livermore while this whole thing played out. >> abc's eric thomas talked to one neighbor. >> reporter: tom browning and his sons were having dinner last night four doors down from this mobile home where this deadly standoff took place. police had been kajed because the resident began acting strangely and he was challenging people to fight. >> the suspect refused to obey commands and retreated inside the home. >> reporter: police say he fired several shots be no one was hurt and after spending two hours trying to get him to give up, he

set his own place on fire. >> these places go up like a tinderbox. >> reporter: here there was even more reason to worry. that's the sound of livermore police opening fire on the man after he came out with a shot june. tom saw whole thing from the street. >> they told him to drop the weapon, drop the weapon, put is under his chin, pointed at it, and they unloaded. >> reporter: firefighters kept the flames from fleming but not before they melted the front of the suspect's house and scorched this car belonging to the next door neighbor. the dead man's name has not been released. they're undergoing routine interviews. eric thomas, abc7 news. new at 6:00, a family finally gets closure after waiting almost 26 years. this is charles campbell, the

20-year-old who was last seen in oakley before he disappeared in september of 1991. his family never knew what happened to him until now. sheriff's deputies using a cold case were able to identify a previously unidentified body. it's still not known how campbell died but investigators say he was not murdered. president trump keeps firing back at his critics including his fellow republicans. they question the president's response to the violence that erupted during last saturday's white nationalist march in charlottesville, virginia. president bush tweeted he's toxic. another gop senator believes the president needs to change his approach. >> move way beyond himself and move to a place where daily he's waking up thinking about what best for our nation. >> reporter: charlottesville's mayor plans to make a major

>> he brought what you saw every night. he was a terrific photo journalist and a beloved member of our family at the station. he covered total stories around the bay area, the country, and the world, including an interview with manuel noriega. he was a total crackup. we teased each other mercilessly over the years. he had more relationships with many people here, loving his job and the people he did with. born and raised in corning, california, he graduated in high school in 1971. here's his high school picture. he worked in radio before getting into television. he told stories through the lens of his camera. clyde powell, our dear friend was 63 years old, survived by two brother, a sister, and a niece and nephew.

company. >> the situation went if there bad to worse. they came to "7 on your side" for help. this is where it all started in parking lot outside a town home in san jose. a 2007 infiniti blockening to a san jose couple was stolen. police would find it a week later riddled with bullets. >> the people that stole it used to mess around. >> reporter: her insurance company allowed a rental of a miss da 2003. one morning her boyfriend went outside and found the car missing. >> he thought the car was stolen again, so he called the police. the police say it wasn't stolen but had been towed. it was toud fwed to have tabs.

h her boyfriend went to the towing company to get his stuff out of the car and he couldn't show proof it was his car, so they wouldn't give it to him. they went back to the rental keep and hertz took care of it. she then found things missing and hertz never contacted her back. they said the customer rented on may 31st but the vehicle's tag, sticker expired the next day while still on rent. the vehicle's registration was automatically renewed. we did not replace the sticker before that. she received a check for $500. >> i was shocked. i didn't think it was coming. it took a while. >> hertz is woking to improve so this doesn't happen again. i want to hear from you.
