the number of people killed in tw twin terror attacks in spain is 14. >> one of those killed, 42-year-old jared tucker. he was on a delayed honeymoon with his wife one year after they were married. leslie brinkley is live where tucker grew up. >> reporter: dan, i've been talking with jared tucker's family. his dad here in walnut creek told me his son was celebrating his first year anniversary on this amazing trip he was taking to europe for the first time. they started in paris, went to venice and barcelona where he was a victim of a terrorist attack. >> jared has the most magnetic personality of anybody you'll meet. >> reporter: they just finished enjoying drinks and started to take a stroll.

>> no more than a minute after he left there was screaming and yelling and sierns and crying and everybody was running. >> reporter: she duck into the kiosk as police forced her out farther away from the site of the attack as she tried to find jared. she ended up at an emergency center where his name never showed up on a list of survivors. >> heidi got notified by the consulate to come in. >> reporter: jared tucker's father says the family is in shock. he said jared grew up in walnut cre creek. he has three teenage daughters and a stepson. >> jared left in really happy frame of mind. we have pictures that she has sent to us of him enjoying the water, the scenery.

>> that is such a tragic thing for them. they are such a wonderful couple. >> 1 other people also died in three separate attacks in spain and more than 100 others were injured. the victims were from more than 30 different countries. police say larger attacks were in the works. five of the attackers were in the van that sped down barcelona's area at 50 miles an hour traveling 1,000 feet before slamming to a stop. five suspected terrorists died in a shoot out with police. they h additional evidence and additional witnesses. >> the other firefighter who was shot is not being identified at this time. he is expected to survive. >> again, jake walters body is being taken to the chapel of the chimes mortuary. the fire department is paying tribute to this young life cut short. eric thomas is live in oakland with that part of the story. >> reporter: we have watched as

the sad preparations get under way for walter's arrival. we watched them put up flags here, numerous flags at chapel of the chimes. you can see some of his friends waiting for that procession to arrive. the oakland fire department is in mourning. >> the result has left a tragedy over the department. >> reporter: 30-year-old probationary firefighter was killed in a random attack after an event in san jose last night. another rookie was wounded. both were graduates of fire academy class 216 that had just been chronicled in the east bay express newspaper. >> as a city family, a loss of any one of us is felt by all of us. >> reporter: late this afternoon oakland fire officials arrived at the home of walters family to

drive relatives and friends to san jose to retrieve his body and bring it in a procession back to oakland. >> i did have the opportunity to speak with both of his parents this morning. as you can imagine they are deeply affected by what's happened. no parent should be in situation where they see their child pass on before they do. >> reporter: chief white says the department gives a great deal of thought and provides training on the deadly dangers associated with the job but may have to give more thought to what happens in the off hours. >> we don't really think about the hazards or the chance encounters that you might have off duty that can lead to a similar outcome. >> reporter: as for the 30 other rookie firefighters who graduated with walter and his wounded colleague. >> there appears from class 216 are really trying to find way to cope with this. two families and the entire oakland fire department. eric thomas, abc 7 news. >> let's take another live look

from sky 7 at the procession for oakland firefighter jake walter. friends organize this motorcade from san jose to oakland. they are asking anyone who wants to show their support to join them at the chapel of the chimes around 6:00 tonight. berkeley city council members are considering an emergency ordinance to try to keep people safe as protests are scheduled for sunday. not everyone in berkeley is on board. abc 7 news reporter is live at civic center park with the story. >> reporter: we're waiting for the results of that vote. taking you back to charlottesville. i want to say that the violence there escalated once people dispersed. what the city of berkeley is telling residents is, listen, we can keep you safe if you stay within this park. if you branch out, it could turn ugly. the emergency ordinance would give berkeley's city manager the

authority to allow police to enforce regulations, including confiscating weapons on the streets of downtown berkeley on august 27th. that's when a right wing group no to marxism in america will rally at the park. a counter protest is scheduled a few blocks away. >> we want to make sure people don't have weapons. we don't no want people to commit violent acts. violence will not be tolerated. >> reporter: police took away homemade weapons found inside the park. if the ordinance passes, now police will be able to confiscate them on the streets as well. not everyone in liberal berkeley agrees with that plan. >> the amendments don't change the fundamental fact that the city manager can propose anything to restrict anybody doing anything at any time anywhere in the city. >> reporter: this uc berkeley professor who just moved here in charlottesville, virginia supports the ordinance. >> i want to go in counter

protest with my two and a half-year-old daughter. i want to know the city is doing everything it needs to to keep us safe. >> reporter: one of the members of no marxism in america posted this. we do not start the violence. period. if attacked we attack back but never first. >> we are encouraging people to stay away from the park and the downtown area as a whole because we cannot guarantee people's safety. >> reporter: the mayor of bes g berkeley is concerned other violent groups hay join both protests. >> later tiebonight eepeople wi gather for a vigil. the vandalism was reported wednesday afternoon. officials say surveillance video shows someone throwing large rock at the windows and the front door. >> brings up an awareness that this does happen and it can happen to us especially tucked away back here in harbor bay

the top democrat in congress want to see president trump fire more staff. house minority leader nancy pelosi say bannon's resignation is welcome news. also bannon's quitting quote doesn't disguise where president trump stands with white supremacists. pelosi's statement followed the president's remarks about last weekend's violence in virginia. the 19-year-old woman at the center of a police sexual misconduct scandal filed suit today. she also alleges a fifth officer fondleder. the lawsuit claims the officers sexually exploited her instead of offering her help to quit the sex trade. oakland pd paid her nearly a million dollars to settle claims some of its officers actually

exploited her. san francisco students return to class monday and with that comes a warning from city fish, slow down. san francisco police will conduct a child pedestrian bicycle safety operation next week. the speed limit near schools is 15 miles an hour. >> not only be aware strictly abide by that. you don't want to see our chp and police officers give you a ticket. more importantly, you don't want the accidents that are attributable to speed. >> good advice. taking a closer look at parents knowledge of sports and concussions. it has parents of girls making tough decisions about their

daughters extracurricular activities. >> reporter: it's the all american sport known for hard hits and jarring blows. traumatic brain injuries and incidents among football players are increasingly making headlines. now researchers in arizona want parents to know concussions aren't limited to the gridiron. in a new survey conducted wi the institute, 85% of parents say they would permit their kids to participate in any contact sport. >> this is a significant increase from last year of 69%. >> reporter: while only two-thirds of parents say they would allow their child to play football, nine of ten parents were fine letting their child take part in soccer even though girls soccer has the highest rate of concussion of any teen sport. >> the greatest rise of that participation is actually in girls sports. the number one increase is in

cheer. >> i couldn't read. i couldn't have a light on in the house. >> reporter: the 16-year-old was treated at the barrow institute after three concussions ended her seven years as a cheerleader. >> my headaches got progressively worse. i slept 15 to 20 hours day. >> it was really hard. >> reporter: her mom says after the third concussion, it was time to pull both of her daughters from the sport. >> to tell her that you're done was the worst thing i've had to say to my kids. i know it took a while for football to get those helmet laws into place. now i think it's time for cheer. >> alexa and her mom hope the research will prove kids need to be better trained at spotting concussions themselves. just three days and counting to monday's solar eclipse. if you're looking for a place to watch it the john muir site may

be the place to be. all you have to do is be like john muir and hike to the top. >> john muir used to walk with his daughters wanda and helen up to this area and get away from the work on the farm. this is a mountain. it's the highest peak in the area and you'll be able to get great views and you'll have a wonderful view of the eclipse. >> that hike begins at monday morning. it's on. not the gold rush but the eclipse rush. this is moving day. hotel rooms are sold out, so are trailer parks and republican dal -- rental rvs. it will be quite an adventure.

>> reporter: high on a hill a race with the sun and the moon. >> we had this idea we wanted to see the eclipse. >> reporter: one problem, the chariot is missing in action. >> you like rvs? >> never been in one. >> reporter: similar scenes play themselves out from west to east across the nation. >> have you been waiting to see this your whole life? >> yeah. >> reporter: the plan had been to leave at about 10:00 this morning with two other couples in a caravan and begin the eclipse experience. rvs appear to be in demand these days. >> that's the rv? >> there it. >> reporter: three hours late the rv arrived in all of its dplor glory with a cracked window and dented fender. >> i drove through the night with another one from las vegas. >> reporter: here is where the real work began. >> you turn it on. >> i have no idea what he just told me. >> just flip that thing off and

put that. >> did you ever explain this and see people go yes. >> yes. yes. >> reporter: when making this memory it's not about the vehicle any way. it's about this. america's first total eclipse since 1979. for roughly two and a half minutes in oregon the family will pay $450 day for the rv plus camping fees the, et cetera. would you cam to am mortize that? what price? priceless? >> let's hope the sunshines. >> that is a concern. >> everybody smile. >> reporter: count them. four more to the eclipse. serenity has hit the road. >> serenity until they get into traffic with all the other people who want to see the eclipse.

david will anchor abc special report. let's tart with current conditions. this is the view looking down on the bay as few clouds, low clouds pushing out over the bay. it's 65 degrees in san francisco. 67 across the bay in oakland. 64 degrees right now at half-moon bay. upper 70s at santa rosa. we have low to mid-80s at novato, concord and livermore. let's look at live doppler 7. we have mainly sunny skies at the coast where we have the usual low clouds and fog building in late afternoon into the early evening hours. this is the view. it's sunny and about 71 degrees. we have the beach lovers out there enjoying the conditions. these are our forecast conditions. mild to warm days will be with us this weekend. it will be partly cloudy and cooler on solar eclipse monday. overnight, look for fog at the coast. a little bit moving out over the

bay. low temperatures will be generally in the upper 50s to low 60s. it will be a mild overnight period. tomorrow look for mainly sunny skies. along the coast we'll see sunny breaks. it will be lingering fog as well. high temperatures will range from mid to upper 60s at the coast. maybe a few upper 70s near the bay and upper 80s to low 90s in the inland east bay. sunday will be much like tomorrow. very similar temperature range. then on monday, eclipse monday will be cooler with inland highs dropping into the mid-80s. starts to warm up again on tuesday of next week. let's take a look at the eclipse. once again remind you the eclipse begins 9:01 a.m. on monday. maximum eclipse occurs at 10:15 when the day will give way tonight and the eclipse will end at 11:37 monday morning. best viewing conditions if you want to see totality or 100% eclipse of the sun will be up

around salem, oregon area. we'll get pretty good eclipse. 75% of the sun will be obscured as the moon moves between the sun and the earth on monday morning. taking a look at our projected sky conditions. at 1:00 monday morning going into the later morning hours we'll see low clouds forming near the coastline and a few clouds passing over as well. we may have a few thin high clouds but probably not enough to obscure our view of the sky. as it ends at 11:30 we'll have mainly clear skies. a nice mild to warm weekend. cooler day on monday but once again we expect to have good or favorable viewing conditions for the eclipse. it will start to warm up on tuesday and wednesday. we'll get back into our more typical range of summer temperatures. >> wow. >> the sun and moon get it all worked out. >> they need to find their identity. >> thanks. coming up, finney's friday
