live breaking news. >> chaos on the streets after the president's speech in arizona ended. armored officers marched on protesters firing gas to clear the crowds. >> someone through plastic water bottles at the police officers and they cleared them off the streets. that included tear gas and smoke grenades. officers rushed the crowd, pushing them back. the protesters chanting they were being peaceful as gas canisters were being deployed. they had to wash their eyes with bottles of water. >> reporter: the police moved the crowds away from the convention center where the president was speaking.

a self proclaimed veteran against trump said he couldn' e him. >> i'm 100% disabled and they gassed me and shot me six times tonight. >> look at my -- >> reporter: inside the convention center, president trump rallied the crowd. we have a reporter live in phoenix with a look at the speech and clash on the street in ten minutes. the scene that played out in phoenix is what city leaders in berkeley are trying to avoid before an antimarxist protest. lisa amin gulezian has more. >> reporter: this could be the third face-off between the groups since april. many are calling sunday the battle for berkeley part three. >> what -- how -- >> violence --

>> reporter: tensions are high in berkeley five days before an antimarxist rally will take place. the organizer is a transgender woman who supports president trump but opposes racism, hate and violence. >> we're not here to cause violence or white supremacy. >> city leaders insist they don't want a repeat of this. out of control events downtown and on campus where opposing groups clashed. people were hurt, arrests were made. fishes are asking counterprotesters to stay away. >> we're going to be out here to oppose them. >> reporter: thomas has been to the previous protests at the park and plans to be back on sunday. >> it felt like an invasion. and i felt an obligation to defend my home. >> reporter: this is where the city hopes that counterralliers

will gather, a rally against hate on crescent lawn. business owners on center street are worried that problems might follow. >> i don't really want to open. >> reporter: many plan to decide last minute whether to open on sunday. lisa amin gulezian, abc 7 news. ed lee wants people to ignore a rally this saturday at chrissy field and is teaming up with the human rights commission to hold a counterrally outside city hall. the mayor says there is no place for hate-filled speech in san francisco. >> maybe we should not dig fie this event by going to chrissy field. >> reporter: another event will be held in the castro district. the patriot prayer rally begins at 2:00 p.m. on saturday. the violence and hate across the country have forced the cancellation of a play.

>> that play features actors portraying members of the kkk. cornell barnard has more. >> it hurt deeply. to do it. >> reporter: a few props are all that is left for the play "the foreigner" a comedy farce which involves controversial characters. >> the foreigner involves the appearance of the ku klux klan. for the the artistic director says the play was cast and set to open next month but after seeing clashes in charlottesville she is cancelling the show. >> everything broke loose in our country. and so i -- i became very concerned about doing this play. >> reporter: response to the decision has been mostly positive on theater company's facebook page. >> i wasn't pressured by the city. >> reporter: we found others who

agree. >> with everything that is going on it might not be the right play right now. >> is it a tense time. and things people should be promoting unity. >> we had a great run. >> reporter: but "the foreigner" couldn't be more timely. his theater company produced the play two weeks ago. some performances sold out. >> it's going to upset some people but at the same time it's showing you what racism is. you know, you can't get away from it. >> reporter: ticket sales will be refunded. cornell barnard, abc also new a crews pulled an injured surfer from the water this evening at mile rock beach. the man was complaining about being cold. he suffered some type of ankle a crash at the golden gate bridge

toll plaza. it appears the door was sheered off. it happened at lane five and blocked three lanes of traffic. one person in the rv was taken to the hospital. crews in san jose battled a fre on east hills drive tonight. you can see the flames created a it will of smoke. everyone in the house got out safely. the fair damaged the home's exterior. sky 7 was above a charred field in dublin after a wind-fuelled brush fire this afternoon. large plumes of smoke were sent into the sky. residents were allowed back in their homes after firefighters go it the flames under control. new tonight, a first for the san francisco 49ers. the team has just become the first to hire an openly gay coach. >> her name is katie sowers.

>> 31-year-old katie sowers just finished a summer internship with the 49ers when kyle shanahan offered her a full-time assistant coaching gig with the team. >> she's a hard worker. you don't notice her because she just goes to work. >> reporter: she is the first female on the coaching staff in 49ers history and the first openly lgbt coach in the nfl. she said there are many people who identified a lgbt in the nfl but they don't people comfortable with being public about it. she said the more we can create an environment that welcomes all types of people, the more we can help ease the pain and be urd that many carry every day. 49ers fans we talked with are all for it. >> as long as she is good at what she does, it shouldn't matter. i think that professionalism it

breaking news from arizona tonight where a protest outside a rally hosted by president trump turned violent. police were forced to use pepper spray and tear gas. we are in phoenix live tonight and you were right in the middle of what was clearly an intense situation. >> reporter: that's right, dan, police remain behind us tonight and say that four people were arrested tonight.

it's not clear what sparked the chaos but we were on hand moments after it began. a demonstrator is hit by a nonlethal round. water bottles are thrown at officers who fire pepper spray. the police continued to move the line to keep protesters moving farther and farther away. >> we're not going to be scared. >> reporter: some here desperate to clear out their eyes. we witness at least one arrest. some of these here appear to be anti-fascists, anarchist types. inside, president trump holds his first campaign style rally since the violence in charlottesville last week. he rereads portions of his speeches and mocks the media for criticizing him. >> why did it take a day.

things. high clouds along the coast we have some fog but most spots are reporting clear skies. but the fog will push into the bay in the next six to eight hours. tonight, mild to warm temperatures then we are calling it hot inland this week. the warm air will move in. as the temperatures rise this time of year the fire danger will increase as well. 50s on the coast and 60s in the bay. and brent woodleywood 77 degree. a little bit cooler in the north bay under cool skies. napa at 59 degrees. overnight we have clouds along the coast. the big take away is that the fog will not be as widespread. patchy fog around the bay but it will have a touch time moving

into the inland valleys. hour by hour we go. we get you out at 7:00 in the morning. the fog gets thin over our typical locations like san francisco, berkeley and hayward but it's one of those days where the fog will pull back to the coast by 10:00 away from the coast. that's going to allow temperatures to warm inland. by 2:00 in the 80s to low 90s away from the coast. 90 for fairfield. 73 in oakland. 82 in san jose. 70 in fremont. 68 in san francisco tomorrow. and lake port at 95 degrees. as we head into the weekend it's not just us but the western half of the united states will feel the warm earth. the highest temperatures will be just to our east. but for us the numbers will rise over the coming days, peaking over the weekend.

good evening. the warriors may have a new rival in the east. kyrie irving is going to boston. isaiah thomas is going to cleveland. a swap of all-star point guards. remember the final series winner in 2016 and then christmas day game winner last season. he goes to a celtics squad that added gordon hayward in the off season. joining lebron along with jae crowder, ante zizic and a first-round draft pick. the cavs did well in this deal but lebron and thomas are free agents next summer. the timing couldn't be worse for
