protest. the president addressed thousands of his supporters at the rally and defended his response to the tragedy in charlottesville. he blamed the media. >> then i said racism is evil. did they report that i said racism is evil? you know why? because they are very dishonest people. >> the president also criticized senate majority leader mitch mcconnell for failing to repeal obamacare. >> ed lee is urging people to ignore a right-wing rally at crissy field over the weekend and? stead attend a protest at city hall. they're working to hold the united against hate rally on saturday. another anti-hate rally will be held in the castro. developing news out of berkeley, tensions running high with five days to go before an anti-marxist free spich rally in civic center park. this would be the third faceoff

we would see between protesters and counterprotesters just since march. the first two didn't go so well. people got hurt and police made arrests. the organizer of this rally is a transgender woman who says she supports trump but opposes racism and violence. >> my god, you show me one white supremacist group that would accept any transgender at their rallies. >> it felt like an invasion and i felt an obligation to come out and defend my home. >> that's exactly the response city officials do not want. they're asking counterprotesters to stay away from the event and instead going to cressen lawn where a rally against hate is now scheduled. this story just coming in to our live desk. police have busted a bike theft ring in the lake tahoe area. it has ties to san francisco. police say several high-end

bikes were stolen from truckee, tahoe city, squaw valley, and can city, nevada, recently. now these four brothers from san francisco have been arrested for the crime. we just got these pictures minutes ago of these they are jesus, sergio, martin, and juan carlos. a family affair. authorities so far have recovered about $70,000 worth of stolen bikes from the home in san francisco. >> all right, thank you. we are learning more about the deadly shooting of an off-duty oakland firefighter in san jose. prosecutors say 30-year-old jake walter was killed in a surprise attack. the suspect, oliver juinio made his first court appearance yesterday. he's also accused of wounding a second firefighter. abc7 news has learned the shooting was caught on camera. the video helped police track down the suspect. they said the man came up to a graup of off-duty firefighters on thursday and just started

police are investigating a report of a sexual assault. a female student reported the assault by a male student early yesterday monning. the suspect and victim know each other and the incident is under investigation. >> 6:17. happening today, protesters set to gather in new york outside of nfl headquarters to support colin kaepernick. civil rights groups and celebrities also expected to attend rallies to call on the nfl to re-sign him. remember, the former 49ers quarterback took a knee during the national anthem last year and it sparked a national conversation. other players have sat during the anthem this year, but kaepernick is the obly one not working. >> apparently, a lot of us have been confused about what we can and can't recycle. now they're telling us that you have more items that you can recycle that we have been doing the whole time. >> if you have already been putting clean plastic bags and paper cups, milk and juice cartons, it's all allowed now.

community. a stretch was closed to traffic mere mccabe drive last night. it appears the roadway has since reopened. detectives are working the homicide case and will release more information later today. >> help for victims of a deadly fire in san jose. a real estate company is donating a mobile home to this displaced family. fire destroyed their home at the golden wheel mobile home park last week. three people died, a man and two children. the cause of the fire still under investigation. advantage home says it's go to pay for the cleanup and installation of a new mobile home. >> 6:35. hayward police want your help finding more potential victims of a man accused of sexual assault and kidnapping. he was arrested in june but police are just now releasing details about the case. investigators say he pistol whipped and sexually assaulted a woman who assessmented a ride from him. he's also suspected in a similar case in hayward in 2015.

he faced four counts of sexual assault and one count of kidnapping. >> wells fargo is warning the bogus account scandal could grow. an investigation of bank and credit accounts opened without the permission of customers is almost finished. the ce oh says the number of false accounts will probably go beyond the 2.1 million already uncovered. wells fargo has refunded about $5 million to affected customers and the bank fired employees in connection to the scandal. >> the wife of the man killed in the barcelona terror attack is looking for the lastperson to see her husband alive. heidi nunez tucker says she saw a man helping her husband. he was dressed like a waiter. she says she wants to thank the waiter for helping the wounded. this morning, stanford university mourns the loss of a beloved member of that community, bob murphy was a stand-out pitcher, longtime

broadcaster and sports information director. the 82-year-old died on tuesday in santa cruz. he suffered from alzheimer's. stanford football tweeted yesterday saying murphy poured his heart into the farm across seven decades. a hearing scheduled for today in a recall effort against aaron persky may be postponed. the mercury news says a judge was just assigned to the case yesterday and needs time to get up to speed. persky argues the recall should actually be handled by the state, thought the county. so if the court sides with him, recall organizers would have to start all over again. recall organizers say he has a pattern of bias in cases involving sex crimes, including the case against former stanford swimmer brock turner. >> a bill to allow bars to serve your drinks until 4:00 a.m. goes before the assembly appropriations committee. the bill is sponsors by scotter. he wants local communities to have more control over night life, which he says pays a big role in the economy. liquor stores not included in

fog becomes a little bit of an issue this morning. tracking anything out there? caused any problems you see? >> i don't thing the fog is causing problems but we have plenty of issues on the roads, including a new crash in the bay bridge toll plaza. we have a motorcycle down. westbound 80 just to the west of the toll booths. this is exactly the same spot we had a crash monday morning. you can barely see the flashing lights. we just have lane one, so the carpool lane on the far left side is blocked right now. chp said lane two was briefly blocked but that's back open now. it looks like we keep freezing, but you can see the carpoolers getting into lane two to get out of the way once they make it to the toll booths. on top of that, a little improving news. southbound 680, multi-car crash, was blocking lane two, so the left center lane has cleared, but the back up all the way to 580 in the pleasanton area. i checked the drive time. at 40 minutes in southbound 680
