protesters in san francisco make it clear this is no place for hate as a right-wing group scraps plans for protest. but tomorrow the focus is berkeley where an anti marxist is planned. good evening, i am eric thomas thanks for joining us. we begin with a claim of victory tonight. a roundup of protests in san francisco. lisa, those attending say they were standing up against hate. >> very true. san francisco police are calling today and tonight successful and declaring the city safe. the fencing and barricades went up and heavily armed police were on the streets and rooftops.

harvey hit the coastal city of rockport city texas last night. weakened to a tropical storm this afternoon. forecast is expected to dump 30 to 40 more inches of rain. warning the threat of tornadoes will persist. live in houston with the very latest. lana? >> reporter: that woman who died here in houston, she was in her car. she found herself stuck in the water and went to get out. she was carried away by the rushing rain. that is the situation. and that is why so many people are concerned. harvey has moved in on the gulf storm a coast and the storm doesn't look like it is going anywhere soon. >> please don't come back into these affected areas.
