>> mike, that's a great question and with that heat comes the poor air quality. let me show you what's going on from the east bay hills camera and giving you readings right now. we have poor air quality in the north bay, the coast in central bay and the santa clara valley. the only place without poor air quality is the east bay valleys which could have unhealthy air for all of us later today. same thing in the santa clara valley as we're into the spare of air day. the areas in orange along the coast and san francisco. heat advisory until 9:00 monday evening and an excessive heat warning for all of us, and we've got the high fire danger in the hills until 8:00 tomorrow morning. here's what we have. limit outdoor activity if you can. i know it's a holiday weekend. drink plenty of water before you get thirsty and don't forget under no circumstances, leave kids or pets inside the cars. we've already had 35 children lose their lives from being left in a hot car. matt? >> already. good advise. some kids will be getting out of place earlier today because of the record heat and more is

being done to keep them cool while in the classroom. abc 7 news reporter amy hollyfield is live in orenda where it's already hot. amy. >> reporter: hi, matt. yeah, you'll notice water bottles at everyone's desk here at this school and look behind me and see all the classroom doors are closed. they are not being anti-social. they are trying to keep the little air conditioning that they have inside, but they think it will only last for so long. hydrating efforts started early this morning, but the feeling here in orenda is here the sun is going to win this one, so principals at the elementary schools and middle schools decided to let the kids out early today. >> i was pretty amazed. i never knew they would do that. i've heard it like if it's really cold or a snow day but not for the heat, that's crazy. >> the schools here weren't built with central air conditioning and have recently added these portable units to the classrooms, but concern is they can't keep up with 110-degree weather.

>> we have kind of a stop gap air conditioning service with little portable units, it doesn't really keep things that cool. >> reporter: even on a regular hot day, not a historic one, the staff notices the concentration level dips in the afternoon. >> you kind of see this meltdown, you know, this candle meltdown on table, especially after lunch so they come in drooping and they are falling across the table and they just aren't thinking has well, and, you know, it's kind of all done after lunch recess on a hot day. >> reporter: but here this isn't just an issue at school. many of the homes don't have air conditioning and don't usually need it, but today, well, one dad is rushing around to make sure his daughter will be comfortable when she gets home early. >> actually i'm going to get a air conditioner. my wife saw it next door. i'm going to go pick it it up right now. >> reporter: and he says his daughter will spend the rest of the afternoon at the pool today. well, this community does want to go to the local football game tonight, it's still on, but it's going to be postponed.

new developments surrounding the fbi investigation into hillary clinton's use of of a private e-mail server. two top republicans claim former fbi director james comey made up his mind on clinton long before he wrapped up his investigation. jessica castro from abc 7 mornings joins us now with more. jessica? >> reporter: hi, matt, yes. two republicans are coming after comey hard saying, quote, conclusion first, fact-gathering second. that's no way to run an investigation. the president wasted no time responding to new reports about former fbi director james comey's handling of the hillary clinton e-mail investigation. in an early morning tweet, trump wrote looks like comey exonerated hillary clinton long before the investigation was over and so much more. a rigged system. this comes after senator chuck grassley, who heads the senate judiciary committee, along with fellow senator lindsey graham, claimed comey drafted the

statement of exoneration for clinton before the investigation into her e-mails was ever completed. grassley and graham say comey's draft was prepared in may 2016, before he interviewed clinton's top aides. comey only publicly announced the fbi would not pursue charges against clinton in july of last year. >> no charges are appropriate in this case. >> the two senators say their claim is based on interview transcripts with comey's aide. this would be the first time republicans have any teeth to an argument that clinton got preferential treatment, although something they pressed comey about at the time of the investigation. >> was there a double standard? >> no. in fact, i think my entire goal was to avoid a double standard, to avoid what sometimes prosecutors call celebrity hunting and doing something for a famous person that you would never do for an ordinary joe or jane. >> grassley and graham have sent a letter to current fbi chief
