digit temperatures. as hot as it is, they've seen worse. >> i've worked in 118 degrees in mountain house drinking a whole case of water. >> construction workers always have the same message. if you're out in this heat, drink plenty of water. take their advice because they are pros. emergency officials are letting a fire at a chemical plant in crosby, texas damaged by harvey burn out on its own. the plant lost refrigeration yesterday that caused several explosions. the owners believe there will be more. the epa believes there's no serious danger but evacuated the area as a precaution. in houston rescue efforts continue as crews go door to door. so far they are rescued 72,000 people. many of those are returning home to clean up from the devastation. >> feel like crying but then i'm joyful because i could have been in the water.

this too shall pass. i know that it will. >> about 20,000 homes will remain flooded for the next week because of emergency water releases from two reservoirs. today houston's mayor asked the affected residents stay away from their homes. yesterday you helped us raise $67,000 for relief efforts. disney's day of giving raised a total of $14 million. there's still time to help out. a hawk is soaring above sonoma county again thanks to a golf golfer. take a look at the hawk stuck in a tree. timothy carter knew something was out of place while he prepared to put on the second green wednesday evening. >> like a crow or two just going

crazy. cawing really loud. i could just tell it was like different than normal. it was a hawk stuck in a tree. i put my thumb underneath its chin and got him out of there. that's pretty much it. >> the hawk flew away after being freed and appeared to be fine. he made sure to wear his golf gloves to protect his hands from the powerful and sharp talons. serena williams is a new mom. it's a girl. the 35-year-old williams was admitted to a florida hospital on wednesday. her daughter was born today weighing in at six pounds, 13 ounces. the birth came moments before venus williams took the court at the u.s. open. it's the couple's first child. more records to tell you about. kent field 107. that's a record for today.

santa rosa, 110 degrees. i do want to show you live doppler 7. if you have been dealing with this blistering heat and wondering why. there's a problem. we don't have the fog around. that's part of the problem. we have the down sloping wind that's creating this really hot weather. it's like a pressure cooker here. we are watching some of the smoke from the fires to our east starting to come in as well. obviously the fires to our north in oregon an northern california have been sweeping south ward. that's why the air quality is so horrible. look at the visibility right now. down to about six miles in santa rosa and san jose. it's hard to see out there. it's one of those things where if you have any respiratory issues, stay indoors. air quality tomorrow will be just as normal.

i do want to show you right now a live look with those temperatures and it's still pretty hot in san francisco. 94 degrees. triple digits, mountain view, san jose. it's 98 in oakland. gilroy still cooking at 109 degrees. i heard from my sister and she said it's so hot there. i'm not surprised. if you've been dealing with the triple digits there's more to tell you about. 110 in concord. livermore, 108 degrees. you can see just how horribly hazy it is. that's a combination of the hot weather and the smoke from the wildfires. here is another vantage point. here is a look at the forecast. dangerously hot again tomorrow. we're panning around. more record highs are likely this weekend. it is going to be cooler coast and bay sunday and monday. there's relief coming but until then hydrate yourself and find a

fan or a place that has ac. first thing in the morning, temperatures will start out on the really warm side. temperatures in the 60s, 70s. it's not going to take much for those numbers to soar again. 110 in gilroy. 109 in the south bay. 104 san jose. santa cruz a hot 97 degrees. triple digits from redwood city. plenty of triple digits elsewhere. santa rosa, 110. inland areas you'll be simmering in the heat. 114 degrees livermore. this is dangerous heat which is why you theneed to limit your o door activity this weekend.
