have a sister who lives in miami and this morning i told her why don't you come here to san francisco. i was only kidding. some people living there with family members here in the bay area did just that. >> the evacuation is like none aye ev i've ever seen. everyone is leaving. >> reporter: one by woun they told us what they had to do to leave. lindsay drove from miami to ft. lauderdale. >> we ended up getting a hotel. >> it was our first adult trip without the babies ever. first grandma sleep over. when the storm came we went through madness like 20 hour of trying to get the kids on the plane with us. >> you have to take a plane and come here. >> reporter: as hurricane irma approaches, it's getting harder for people to find a flight out of southern florida. as of saturday, all airports will be closed. >> i live in south beach next to the flamingo on the beach.

several hours. abc 7 news. >> all right. thank you. let's head right to spencer christian for a look at where irma is now. >> the storm continues plowing through the caribbean passing over the turks and caicos island. maximum sustained winds 175 miles an hour with gusts over 200 miles an hour. remaining a category 5 tomorrow afternoon. begins the pass north of cuba.c. heading up in south florida as a category 4 hurricane and expected to move up through the central part of the florida peninsula. pounding all the state of florida on saturday and sunday before weakening to a category 1 and moving into eastern georgia on monday. after that, it continues moving

parts farther inland as it passes into tennessee and kentucky. rainfall potential for this storm over this four day period, anywhere from 15 to 20 inches of rain possible over the southern half of the florida peninsula, 7 to 10 inches up in northern part and into southern georgia and the remainder of the area of the south eastern u.s. affected by the storm anywhere from one to five inches. just a terrible and extremely up believable powerful storm. we'll have a bit more later. thank you. san francisco and san mateo officials blaming last weekend's heat wave for the deaths of six people. san francisco's medical examiner reported today that three people all born in the 1920s and 30s died of causes related to the record heat. all three lived independently and never called 911. in san mateo county three elderly people died of heatstro heatstroke. officials say the deaths

highlight the importance of checking on the elderly during hot weather. equifax says information for 140 million people was exposed. social security numbers, birth dates and other private information was exposed including credit card numbers for nearly 200,000 people. they discovered the security breach in july but didn't reveal that beach publicly until today. they have set up a website with more information to see if maybe you've been impacted and we have a link to that on our website at abc7news.com. an oakland fire department captain is jailed for having child porn. >> he's being held on $200,000 bond.

>> reporter: richard is accused of having downloaded and attempted to share minors in sex acts. he was arrested there in his home. this shows deputies arresting 58-year-old richard chu. investigators searched his home and station 15 on 27th street where he works and found evidence on his commuputers. here is one neighbor's reaction. >> shock. nowadays you don't know. this is a very quiet town. this type of thing don't happen often here. >> reporter: an angry mayor said incidents like these make it tough for law-abiding servants. >> we will hold this person fully accountable and ensure

we're weeding out anyone who does not deserve to be in public service. >> reporter: oakland fire department officials could not go on camera but interim chief issued this written statement 37 i'm appalled by the disturbing nature of these charges. when we learned of the investigation i immediately placed the employee in question on administrative leave. the statement says if the allegations are true this criminal behavior violates our community standard of decency and breaches the standards of conduct we uphold in the oakland fire department. the mayor is promising even more. >> we will fully cooperate with contra costa. this person needs to be held fully accountable and removed from public service. >> reporter: if convicted on all the charge, he faces up to five years in prison. two san francisco police officers were shot this morning.

the two officers pulled over a car being driven by a man wanted in connection with a double killing. the man got out of car and shot the officers. one was hit in the chest but the bullet ricochetted off his bullet proof vest. the other officer was nshot in the leg. both will survive. officers returned fire and killed the suspect. a jury will decide if an oakland girl was declared brain dead is still alive. >> her family has sued children's hospital for mall practice following a december 2013 surgery. doctors declared her dead but her mother has kept her on life support. she's receiving medical care in new jersey. a fire forced hundreds of high school students if san francisco to shelter this place this morning.

here's the latest information on hurricane irma. it's the most powerful seen in more than a decade. irma has devastated several caribbean islands. 95% of the buildings have been damaged. weaver ta we're talking about nine deaths blamed on this storm alone. tree uprooted, cars just tossed around. lyanne met up with floridans who decided to leave their home to stay with relatives in the bay area.

the earth should flex back. a long trail of moisture right along the coastline. one or two spots are receiving drizzle drops. there's a pretty good chance of spotty drizzle along the coast. during the overnight hours low temperatures will generally be in the low to mid-60s. a few spots drop into the upper 50s. clouds will linger at the coast where it will still be a bit humid. upper 70s to about mid-80s in the warmest inland spots. speaking of warmth, we'll have a bit of that this weekend especially in our inland spots. antioch will bounce up to 90 degrees up to 98 sunday and monday and dropping sharply down to mid-80s on tuesday. that's the pattern most of our
