ravaged the caribbean islands. it pounded turks and caicos overnight. abc news molly hunter is in any smyrna beach with the latest. molly? >> reporter: it's relatively quiet where we are on the east coast and those waves are getting progressively big as we wait for irma. hurrican irma churned through the caribbean devastating the islands. it's the strongest recorded storm to hit the atlantic. >> i would not want to see it like this again. irma stayed largely offshore in st. maarten and the tiny island. barbuda taking direct hits. >> the entire country has been decimated. >> reporter: irma with winds at more than 1507 miles per hour now taking aim for the bahamas and cuba, and tomorrow south florida. here on the coast of florida, you can see people are boarding up their houses. many of these houses actually

empty. people are heeding the call to get out of town. >> more than 1 million people ordered to evacuate, desperate to stock up on gas and food. >> i'm very scared, so i'm just trying to get as far north as possible. >> reporter: traffic backed up and shelves already wiped clean of bottled water. >> this storm is wider than our entire state and it's expected to cause major and life-threatening impacts from coast to coast. >> reporter: the florida governor warning everyone who can to get out now remembering the last monster storm here 25 years ago. >> remember hurricane andrew is one of the worst storms in the history of florida. irma is more devastating on its current path. >> reporter: the governor stressed they will not come rescue you in the middle of this storm. emergency crews actually don't even go out on to the streets after winds hit about 40 miles per hour, and we're expecting winds three times that. molly hunter, abc news. new smyrna beach. back for you. >> mole, thank you. and as hurrican irma continues its march towards florida, another storm in the atlantic is

getting stronger. meteorologist mike nuclear joe here now with a closer look at both storm's paths. mike. >> both very scarey in their own right, kristen. hi, everybody. irma just increased five miles per hour up to about 155. it was down to 150 from 175 just 24 hours ago, but look what captured your eye there in the lower right part of your screen. jose, who is trying to match irma at least in wind speed now up to 150 miles per hour, but not nearly the size, and it's not going to hit same areas. we'll talk more about e jose as we get deeper into the forecast. right now we're looking at outer bands of irma, still not making it to florida, but they will, and when they do, boy, is it going to be dev state with the storm surge hitting hard sunday morning. look how if just runs right up the peninsula with damaging winds, dangerous life-threatening surf. flooding rains and then it heads towards atlanta for tuesday morning which could really gum up the entire.

flight path. kristen. >> the bay area is answering calls to help florida. happening today, more than 100 members of the is 29 rescued wing are deploying to the danger zone ready to help perform rescues when hurrican irma hits. abc 7 news reporter tiffany wilson is live at moffitt air national guard base where one flight has left and two more are getting ready to take off. tiffany. >> that's right, kristen. we're out on the air field and right behind me you can see the mc-130p combat shadow getting packed up as we speak. they are loading some of the individual equipment for the air national guard unit members. there's also a pickup truck and an inflatable boat on board. for the second time in two weeks danielle valdez and her sons are at the airfield watching daddy deploy. >> it's overwhelming at times but we're also proud of him. >> 5-year-old ryan already dreams of following in his father's footsteps. >> i want to rescue people. >> eric valdez has been a member

of the air national guard for 18 years. this picture is from his mission to hurricane harvey where his unit saved 113 lives. they returned home saturday. >> the flooding there was just devastating and heartbreak, so i manage this seems like it's going to be even worse. >> reporter: this morning valdez and more than 100 members of the is 29th rescue wing packed up for florida. they are getting in position before hurrican irma hits. >> we're prepared for swift water rescue as well as helicopter rescues. >> despite quick turnaround captain roderick says the unit is red for the physical and emotional lutolf another hurricane. >> bottom line we're here to save lives. >> the unit will stay in florida as long as they are needed. danielle has just one wish for her husband. >> come home safely to us because they are anxious. they want their dad back. are are. >> reporter: it is like a came of tetris loading this up

aircraft. there's not much space left for the individual national guardsmen. they sit along the sides of the aircraft, and once they get into flight, it will take them between six and eight hours to land in florida. live at moffitt airfield, tiffany wilson, abc 7 news. >>tive anything, thank you. residents and people visiting south florida are showing up at the airport wows reservations in a last-minute attempt to evacuate. american, delta and unit tell abc news they are completely sold out of tickets. the big three carriers have added more than so,000 seats out of south florida. look at the tar ma'am, both mime international and hollywood airports will shut down later today and it will stay closed until at least monday. new this morning the house overwhelmingly approved a is a $15.1 billion hurricane harvey aid package it. now goes to president trump. the legislation also keeps the government funded into december. the aid was approved by a vote of 316-90. all of the oppose votes were cast by republicans who opposed

linking the storm relief measure without -- with the debt ceiling. new developments in the search for more victims of that powerful magnitude 8.1 quake in mexico. 32 people are now confirmed dead. it's the biggest quake to hit the country in more than 100 years. it was centered off the pacific coast near the border with guatemala. take a look at this map. it's from usgs. it shows aftershocks in that region. there have been at least 35. most range from a 4.2 to a 4.7. now this quake struck last night causing buildings to sway and knock out power in parts of mexico city more than 600 miles away from the epicenter. among the people killed, two people including a barracks and the danger is not over yet. the national weather service says the region is now under a tsunami warning. so far no threats for the u.s. >> developing news in marin county where authorities are searching for a plane that's

believed to have crashed near bolinas. search and rescue crews are hiking towards the crash site in marin county. the cessna 172 was flying from santa inez to santa rosa's schultz international airport yesterday afternoon. it last known position was over marin county where pinging from an emergency beacon was heard. the pilot was the only person on board. in the east bay a devastating fire at a home in pleasant hill overnight. firefighters made a dramatic rescue of a woman who was trapped inside banque banging on walls begging for help. abc 7 news reporter amy hollyfield was live at scene on sylvia dry. aim, somehow that woman doing now? >> kristen, her adult son just stopped by moments ago help. says it's not looking good. she is in critical condition. firefighters tell us they had a hard time getting to her because of what was inside the home. firefighters say the 71-year-old

man living in this burning home in pleasant hill heard an explosion and then ran out of the home. his next door neighbors ran outside, too, and saw him realize that his wife was still inside. >> he was just shouting that he couldn't find his wife, and she was still trapped in the house, so we were out here for probably 20 to po minutes while they were trying to cult open the roof and find her and get her out of the house. >> firefighters say she was likely disoriented from the smoke. they had a tough time getting to her because the home was full of stuff. >> this is considered. a border house with a lot of debris. r.there was a difficult time trying to get her inside structure and getting her out. >> investigators think the barbecue grill in the garage started the fire. police evacuated the next door neighbors who at first didn't know the size of this fire. >> when the garage door is closed we couldn't really see the flames just out top of the garage so we didn't know how bigot fire was, but once they

breaking news. the university of california. many janet napolitano has filed a lawsuit against the trump administration challenging the president's decision to rescind the decision for childhood deferred. she vocally criticized the decision to rescind daca. napolitano helped craft the policy as homeland security secretary under the obama administration. new this morning two oregon residents filed a lawsuit over the credit bureau hack. it's the largest security breach ever involving social skusht numbers. it impacts nearly half the u.s. population. the number of victims staggering is 43 million so what happened. equifax says they exploited a website vulnerability. abc news is reporting the fbi is already investigate the case. the company discovered this

good morning. did you notice the cooler air outside. had a little bit of mist and fog and that's the case again tomorrow evening and heat settles into the forecast least for a day or so sunday into monday. check out the cool look cloud formation this morning as we look back towards mt. diblo. can you seat sun rights just to the north of it, through some of the smoke that still lingers through parts of the state because of all the wildfires. can you see just a pretty in pink beginning to the day. it's pointing to the west now which means we still have clouds linger over the pay from this morning i promise you more sunshine and drier and warmer today and quickly building heat this weekend and then will quickly turn cooler and if you're heading out right now. 62 in san francisco, the cool spot. brentwood, of course, the warm spot at 78. mid-70s around concord and san ramon and los gatos and gilroy in the upper 70s and everybody
