we slow down this footage of lightning appearing a a a a a fete. i'm dan ashton. >> and i'm christine z. melindaing on where you live this -- let's get to meteorologist drew tuesdayman. he's tracking whether conditioning right now. >> much of the video we're getting from the south bay, but a lot of us will see that in the next hour or to. live doppler 7 tracking it all along the peninsula into the south bay. this is where we've seen numerous reports of all the action. this is what you're seeing on doppler 7 rngs at least 11:00 in the past minutes or so. just if the past ten minutes a lightning strike off the coast of south san jose.

the cell moving over south san jose has a history of producing lightning at this hour. a few around richmond. the wider view into the north bay we go we've seen lightning but it has not moved into napa county just yet. watch this new cell that had just developed to the north of mount hamilton. we're going to track that one because it does have vivid looung. folks could expect lightning by 6:00 p.m. expect to hear rumble of thunder. the storm -- bring it on back. we rank our storms here at abc 7 from one to five. this is a light storm but it will impact your evening with gusty winds. we'llly get red of the heat in that full accu-weather guys. >> there's been up clean up

repairs in the south bay. >> let's go to david louie in san jose with the look at the damage there. david. >> reporter: what a strange weather day this has been especially in the south bay. we've had rain, thunder, lightning in the past hour. in the early morning hours this morning, we had heavy winds that took down trees and power lines. the gusts of winds woke up residence starting shortly after 2:30 this morning. the howling sound was nothing they expected. >> it sounded like a little mini hurricane, nothing like florida. >> reporter: dispatchers at the fire received calls as people called in down power lines and broken tree limbs. this tree was planted 60 years ago but the tree lost limbs to winds three years in a row. a cable has kept it from falling

over. >> it did fall over and block two lanes of traffic. >> reporter: retired san jose firefighter russ sereman found himself pressed. large limbs fell on to the neighbor's house, another limb broke a window in a park's suv in another neighbor's driveway. >> it could have done a lot more damage. there is pung churs in the roof up here some of it the size of my leg. >> reporter: crews were required to restore service of 11,000 customers. damage range from transformers to down power lines. one tree on university avenue displaced a large alcohol acolo bees. >> no damage anywhere else, there's just leaves and brush down, that's about it. the tree didn't fall on school property so we're okay. >> reporter: in santa cla ra,

david louie, abc 7 news. all lanes are blocked right there on highway 101. right now sky 7 live over the scene. this crash or car ended up on its side. look at the back up as we pan here, this is nbc 101 year the intersection of 237 so not far from moffitt field and mountain view in santa clara county. we know one person was hurt and taken away by balance. the biggest impact you could see is traffic. we'll keep monitoring the situation. an account gone viral amazing thousands of dollars in donations. it's all a result of an interaction between a police officer and a hot dock vender at saturday's football game. a football game shows the officer taking cash out of the

vender's walt in account for giving him a citation for not having the proper permit. laura you spoke with the officer. >> reporter: i did kristin and he defended his actions. the uc in the meantime has issued a statement saying they are opening an investigation into this incident. however they went on to say, this officer's action, that is removing $60 from the wallet of an unlicensed vender is quote, typical in a case like this. >> the vender who had his cash taken by uc berkeley police officer says he didn't know what to think at the time. he tried his best to obey the officer's order. >> translator: at that moment i was in a state of shock because of what was happening to me. i don't know how to explain it, i was in a state of shock when i saw he was taking my money. >> reporter: we spoke off camera with the officer to urge people to see the full contact of his actions. he said the cash was tan only as

utilities out in florida. urgent certain and rescue crews are also in florida helping out. janene with the latest. >> reporter: well the women and men of the 129th rescue wing say they are ready for any scenario they encounter in florida. the captain told us they did send up four aircrafts to assess the damage there. this cell phone video was taken in the early morning hours when hurricane irma had just started approaching tampa. >> it was so loud, the gusts were so loud the tree outside my house kept hitting my roof, we were thinking it was going to come crashing into my house. i had 13 family members here, little babies all the way up to my mother. >> reporter: rivas tried to stay informed through television but they lost power. she says being cut off while the

winds howled for hours was terrifying. >> they told us it was going to be a few days before we get power. we did have a generator but like i said it ran out of gas. >> reporter: the 129th rescue wing from moffitt field has been waiting to spring into action. they left friday from florida and this morning the unit was called to survey the destruction. here's video the crew sent to show one of the helicopters in the air that's helping. >> basically to assess the area to come up with the right game plan to provide the right level of search and rescue support. >> the rescue wing spokesman wasn't able to tell us how many rescues were performed because they preoccupied with their mission. those on the ground are grateful for any help they can get. >> so many compelling images out of the states battled by irma. check this one out, this video was shot from downtown's

the twin towers that collapsed. 16 years ago today nearly 6,000 people loss their lives on that day. a fire fighter who the accident on 9/11. he shares his story. >> as i was running to the north tower i had to pass the south tower the get to it. and the second jet came over my head at 9:03. and i realized it has to be a terrorist attack. the first thing i said to everybody tez, i said everybody on top of the buildings are going to die. need buildings are going to collapse but nobody believed me. so, i was right outside the south tower when it started coming down at 9:58 9:58 9:58 98 minutes after it was struck. i was right outside underneath

it. i started running when the building was coming down. slaps of concrete was hitting my body and i was buried underneath the rubble. i had fractured skull, my neck and spine was crushed i was bleeding internally. i was there with these other people, they all died and eventually was found alive. >> he recovered obviously and now travels the country sharing his story. recently he was in beaumont texas that was hit by harvey. he said he plan to pack up tools and drive there to help out. it's his way of helping the way the people helped in new york in 9/11. comedian robin williams will be announced in san francisco tomorrow. an area of a comedy event will be named in his honor. karen tyler with the details. >> reporter: robin williams helped put san francisco comedy

it's in a south to north fashion. that's why we're seeing a lot of reports right now lightning. the storms are moving in that direction. the cell had some lightning at this hour. haywood around 6:33 expect more lightning. just before 7:00 might be more lightning strikes. 7:07 p.m., berkeley we do expect more lightning and showers. silicon valley, so many reports on twitter and facebook of seeing lightning and hearing thunder. pal low alto to the west of sunny dale. the way this storm is moving to the north as well. areas like south san francisco, even san francisco would not be surprised in the next 45 minutes if you start to see a couple of lightning strikes associated

with that. just saw our first lightning strike detected in the north bay. we break out the storm impact, it's been quite sometimes several months since we've had to use this. today we use this exclusively at abc 7. we rank or storm one to five. five with most severe. just to give you an idea of what to expect winthh ite through. tonight it's a one. any scattered that moves through your neighborhood will have lightning and gusty winds. the camera top, pier 15 quite an ominus sky over san francisco. the reason we're seeing these thunder showers, it's warm outside, muggy and tropical out there. 80s and 90s in our warmest spots. the good news, once the sun sets in the next couple of hours, the thunderstorms will lose the heating of the day.
