it will happen again tonight i think a little bit later. air is stable this morning, no radar returns right now, in fact, air is pretty clear and a little cooler as you look from mt. tam. 61 to 67 is our temperature there. humidity and a little more sunshine today. mid 70s to low 80s at noon, upper 60s to mid 80s around 4:00 and then some thunderstorms start to pop during the evening hours. 65 to about 77 degrees. we will have an hour by hour look at our next lightning show coming up first how about that morning commute. >> it is ramping up, mike. here is a live look outside at the bay bridge toll plaza, metering lights on at 5:20 this morning. starting to back up through the maze. no blocking issues as you head into san francisco. we are looking at an hour for our drive time westbound 580. still have a disabled vehicle blocking. westbound 4 antioch to concord in the yellow at 28 and southbound 101 you are looking good in the green at 16 minutes.

i know you were sleeping, does is this, though? back to the lightning show overnight. just incredible forks of lightning there. the national weather service said it detected about 1,000 cloud to ground lightning strikes as of 10:00 p.m. last night. the strikes and heavy winds caused power outages across the bay area. this morning pg & e crews are still working to respect about 1,800 customers, more than half are in san francisco and the peninsula. let's get to some developing news this morning on the other side of the country. listen to these new numbers, fema officials are now saying 25% of homes in the florida keys have been destroyed by hurricane irma, 65% have major damage. that news coming this morning just as people are being allowed to return to that area to assess the damage. officials say limited services will be available today. millions of customers are still without power, though, and most gas stations remain closed. at least 11 deaths across three states are now being blamed on irma. >> it went through their

kitchens, their living rooms. i mean, these people have restored their houses three times in three years and that's devastating. right now i'm at the mercy of when the water goes oun where we can get out of here. >> as things start to calm down the royal caribbean and carnival cruise lines plan to resume sailing out of florida today after a four-day break. pg & e workers are part of the team helping to get the lights back on across florida. the utility shared video with us showing he crews looking for downed lines and toppled trees. at least 100 pg & e workers are helping local utilities in florida. happening tonight dozens of celebrities will be part of a special telethon to benefit those affected by hurricane harvey that ravaged texas. george clooney, jamie foxx, beyoncé, oprah, reese witherspoon a few of the names expected to take part. the telethon will raise money for thousands of people in texas who were displaced and countless others who have lost their home because of the storm there and continued flooding. you can watch the hand in hand

benefit at 8:00 tonight right here on abc 7. >> hoping it does a lot of good. new developments now, uk berkeley police will investigate a viral video, it was captured after saturday's football game. the video shows an officer citing a hotdog vendor for selling food without a permit and confiscating his cash. police issued warnings to three other unlicensed vendors at that game. the video was posted on facebook and gained a lot of attention from people who believe that that man was unfairly targeted. a vendor tells abc 7 news that he was shocked when the officer took his money. >> translator: to be quite honest with you, i want to get my permit and get my business going. do things right and make it official. so i don't find myself in that situation again. >> abc 7 news spoke with the police officer off camera. he urges the public to consider the full context of the situation and says he only took the cash as evidence to support the citation. developing news this morning an east bay congressman says he had no idea fraudulent contributions were made to his campaign.

the sf gate reports representative eric swalwell accepted illegal donations in 2012 and 2013 and the money will be donated to charity. swalwell's campaign office says he did not know about the fraudulent contributions until the fbi a rented james tong of pleasanton. prosecutors say tong used others to make donations on his behalf to bypass campaign contribution limits. he is due in court later in month. developing news out of antioch. investigators looking into a series of suspicious fire. contra costa firefighters responded to five fires. they want to know if the fires are connected and if there is an arsonist out there. shane davis says his father tired to hose down this fire outside of a indonesian baptist church. >> i heard lound crackling and noises and looked out our balcony window and i told our family and they ran out of the

now a live desk update. >> from abc 7 mornings. welcome back. just coming into our live desk this morning hope hicks has been named the permanent white house communications director. the 28-year-old became the interim communications director after anthony scaramucci's 11 day stint on the job. hicks is a long time trump aid who worked for the trump organization and was a spokeswoman during the presidential campaign. she now becomes the president's third white house communications director. >> 6:15. the focus over the past few days has been on irma but this morning people have not forgotten victims of harvey. many displaced families live in

shelters right now so a las vegas group is stepping in to help. absolute exhibits partnering with a lumber company to build beds out of donated woods, they have cut, sanded and pieced together hundreds of frames so far. they will be delivered to a houston children's charity. they also collected comforters, backpacks for the bigs. the berkeley city council will discuss reforming the police review commission. according to the daily californian council members want to improve use of force reporting policies and give the commission full access to city records. voters would decide on the changes next year. the center for policing and equity advised the council to make those improvements after black lives matter protests back in 2014. the berkeley police were accused of using excessive force to control protesters. in a similar situation in santa clara county, today county supervisors will consider a plan to establish a civilian overnight office to hold law enforcement accountable. it comes two years after the deadly beating of a mentally ill inmate at the county jail.

three jail guards were convicted in the death of michael tyree. you are let your ro voice be heard at the san francisco police commission meeting about whether officers should use tasers. the meeting starts at 6:00 tonight at the bill graham civic auditorium. police chief william scott supports tasers as a less lethal tool. there will be another meeting next tuesday at the city college of san francisco. a moratorium on new marijuana dispensaries is back up for debate in san francisco. the board of supervisors is considering a 45 day pause on new permits. the chronicle reports that it's has enough support to pass.ance- the proposal comes as mayor ed lee puts together an office of cannabis to manage the industry. hillary clinton's book comes out today and it's titled "what happened" provides her perspective on last year's election and why she lost. clinton will speak at opera plaza near civic center on october 6th and visit uc davis a few days later. she is expected to appear on the

thank you. here is a look at what's going on right now, rainfall amounts .2 of an inch at sfo. downtown san francisco, oakland .07 and san jose .04. anytime you have thunderstorms the next morning you get these cool clouds that are lingering around. you can see the colorful sunrise developing now. we will have more sunshine today and storms will develop but it's going to be better tonight for that development of thunderstorms. we will have cool to seasonal highs in the extended. here is last night's or yesterday afternoon, evening, last night's storms well up to our north, anything over the ocean will continue rotating out over the ocean. let's go hour by hour from 7:00 all the way up to noon. pretty much nothing. you can see up in the sierra there in the upper right-hand corner of your screen that's where we have the best chance of forms but there are a few isolated ones you can see at 5:00. once we get around midnight that's when i think we get the spark needed through tomorrow's morning commute for more scattered thunderstorms with brief downpours, locally gusty

winds and even small hail. by 9:00 you can see it start to is that rifle up to an isolated chance. looks like tomorrow morning could be our next window. my accuweather seven-day forecast coolest thursday, a touch of fall comes in from alaska. once that has moved on friday, saturday and sunday temperatures much more seasonable and the weather much quieter. alexis, how are those streets? >> not so quiet. we have a handful of issues. vallejo no change here we have a two car collision blocking the left lane westbound 80 just before you get to georgia street but that backup continues to grow. you are slow from route route 37 that's getting close to four miles and that is a hefty delay. unfortunately once you make it bast that westbound 80 before san pab san pablo dam road, emergency crews just getting to the scene there. we have not gotten words on injuries yet. a quick check outside.

patterson pass road for an alternate. we will take a look at a couple delays on westbound 80 through the east bay as well coming up next. our viewers came through big time. look at these amazing shots all from last night's big storm. chances are some strikes you saw them where you live as well. as incredible as the images and the video it, it did lead to a few issues around the bay area. abc 7 news reporter amy hole field is live at sfo with a scary situation for a worker there. >> reporter: the duty manager tells me they had a worker out on the runway last night who was worried that he had been struck i by lightning. his ears were ringing. paramedics responded, they treated him, couldn't find any evidence that he had been struck but some airlines did pull their ramp employees inside just in case. we have a feature reel for you here so you can get a look at all of the wonderful beautiful impressive lightning strikes that happened last night, we captured several of them from all over the bay area from san francisco to san jose.

there is also loud thunder accompanying the lightning, rain, it was also unusual for this area and time of year, but it did cause some problems. here are the latest power outages from pg & e this morning. these numbers just coming into us at 565 customers on the pens will are still waiting for the lights to come back on, san francisco 541, a total of 1,872 customers without power this morning. cal fire santa clara unit did respond to a few spot fires from the lightning and said they got them out quickly so no problems from those. reporting live at sfo, amy hollyfield. it was a long night for giants fans after two weather delays. their series opener against the dodgers at at&t park didn't wrap up until 2:11 in the morning. the first pitch was delayed 42 minutes because the lightning storm started before the scheduled start time. the second delay lasted nearly three hours but the game resuming just before 11:00 last night. in the end, though, it worked

businesses in five different states are without power right now. irma has been downgraded to a post tropical cyclone this morning but it's still expected to bring in heavy rain to the carolinas, kentucky and tennessee throughout today. miami beach and florida keys residents are just starting to return this morning to see some of the damage left behind. 6:35. happening today the santa clara county board of supervisors will consider providing thousands of dollars to help daca recipients. the board will discuss allocating $200,000 to establish an emergency daca program. it would help with renewal applications, entrepreneurship training and behavioral health services. daca protects hundreds of thousands of young people brought here illegally as children from deportation. santa clara county is home to 24,000 daca recipients. after weeks of negotiations california sanctuary state bill is headed to the assembly for approval. comes after state senate leaders amended the original bill to address some concerns from law enforcement and governor brown. the bill now allows local law

enforcement to share information about inmates convicted of roughly 800 violent or serious crimes, also allows police to hold those inmates at the request of federal authorities. police had originally been concerned with the original bill because they thought it could protect felons. happening today, the santa clara county board of supervisors will take a moment to honor a member of the abc 7 news family to recently passed away, clyde powell died unexpectedly in his sleep last month. he covered news in the bay area for nearly four decades and helped us with our coverage in the south bay. santa clara county supervisors will adjourn their meeting today in his memory. >> clyde, our colleague and our thoughts with his family of course. well, the bank robbery suspect and her partner that you see here on your screens behind bars this morning. a sonoma police actually thanking the public, they say alert citizens helped track down katrina hockney and miguel maravia. the two wanted for a previous

robbery attempt in napa. witnesses say they saw their van, alerted police and then authorities arrested the duo. san jose police need your help to find the suspects who robbed an elderly woman last month. surveillance video captured the august 31st ro be ri in the parking lot on story road. police say the suspect approached the woman and ripped her purse from her after a violent struggle. the suspect got into a dark colored four-door nissan. the victim had minor injuries but is okay. anyone with information is asked to contact san jose police. san francisco will remain sharon meadows after robin williams. it's where san francisco comedy day has been held for decades and the late comedian helped put on the annual event. he helped put it on the map. he was striems a headline or or surprise guest, he was also a secret financial benefactor. organizers of the name change released at least -- they collected 1 -- 100,000 signatures i should say for

faces at least 23 class action lawsuits right now and more cases may still be filed. the lawsuits were filed in 14 states including here in california and the district of columbia. the cyber attack exposed private information of 143 million americans. san francisco parking meters should soon see a surge pricing at peak hours. a parking meter policy would expand the sf park pilot program to meters throughout the city and prices there range from 50 cents to $8 an hour depending on the meter's location and the time. proponents of doing this say that surge pricing helps free up parking spaces faster, but some people question how those prices are set. if this is approved by the mta the program could be expanded by the end of this year. forget swiping through hangers, california will be home to the first nordstrom concept storm which will not stock any clothing inside. instead customers shop online
