decided to take off all of her clothes and presented herself to the council even climbing up on their desks. this was at the end of the meeting where they had discussed whether they should lift the law that says women must cover their chests. we asked a couple of berkeley residents their thoughts on the issue. >> just because you want to go around topless doesn't exactly mean that you should. >> i don't know. it's a two-sided thing. if my kids were out here at the time i wouldn't want them to see that but, hey, it's berkeley. bring back the '60s. >> reporter: the council did not take action last night. one councilmember suggested the issue be reviewed by the commission for the status of women before the council discusses it further. another said maybe men should be required to wear shirts. so nothing was decided but it was still a very interesting night. reporting live in berkeley, amy

hollyfield, abc 7 news. >> amy, thank you. we're certainly wide awake now. it is 4:30. if you're just joining us a quick update on your weather and traffic. mike, definitely some drizzle outside. there is so you need to work out for that. it will hang around all through the morning commute. we'll keep an eye on the thunderstorms in the central valley and see if they're going to make their way anywhere closer to us over the next couple of hours or so. we'll keep that threat of thunderstorms in the forecast this morning. let's take a look at some temperatures out there right now and what you're going to see as we're running mainly in the mid to upper 60s. daly city, 60. the cool spot, 63 to 66. we'll take a look at our threat of thunderstorms hour by hour. and that cooler weather coming up in the accuweather seven-day forecast. alexis? i had my wipers on for the majority of my drive in this morning. you likely will, too. a look at golden gate bridge and

mist and drizzle. certainly not a washout. we don't have any standing water or anything like that on the roadways. we could have some slick spots. take it easy on the curves and ramps this morning. it's been a long time, as you know, since we've had any wet pavement so the oils rise to the surface the first time we get some in a long time. already up to 37 minutes this morning westbound 580, tracy to dublin. we do have a crash along that route. i'll have more on that in a few. southbound 680 looks good. 101 to cupertino in the green at 16 minutes. now a live desk update from abc 7 mornings. as you may know the florida keys taking the biggest hit from hurricane irma, nearly every home there damaged or destroyed and this morning some new video and aerials of what they are dealing with there. areas still cut off, 42 bridges across the keys have been deemed safe, though, and that is good news. meanwhile, the death toll has grown to at least 12 in florida.

president trump and vice president pence will travel to the state tomorrow to tour the disaster zone. abc's molly hunter has more on the cleanup effort and the recovery efforts. >> reporter: a terrifying journey for many. floridians now returning to their homes. but in the keys it's nearly impossible. 90% of houses destroyed and damaged. >> you start over. you learn to do it again. it isn't the first or the last time, i'm sure. >> reporter: police checkpoints now set up. residents here heading down the south dixie highway but unsure what they'll find. and those who stayed and survived are the lucky ones. >> i stayed in the bathroom, me and my girlfriend, in the bathroom and the hallways. for two days it was hell. you didn't know if you were going to make it or not. >> reporter: the storm's fury on full display here. >> when the bigger gusts came by you could feel like the floor jumping a little bit. >> reporter: on this tiny strip of land, no power, no sewage and no running water.

in florida, georgia, and the carolinas more than 20,000 dod personnel supporting the response. here in florida coast to coast and north to south recovery in full swing. repair crews more than 20,000 strong from 30 states and canada working around the clock. the sound of chainsaws everywhere, even sister margaret ann pitching in. so much of florida hot and sticky here in september is still living in the dark. >> it's intense but we just take it step-by-step, one job at a time. >> reporter: more than 4 million customers are without power including where we are. officials saying it could take months to restore electricity across the state. molly hunter, abc news, naples, florida. ♪ darling, darling stand by me ♪ ♪ oh, stand by me >> and there's usher and blake shelton and all kinds of celebs, more than $44 million raised so

far from last night's hand-in-hand benefit to support hurricane victims. dozens of stars turned out to sing, tell stories, and plead for support during the one-hour telethon. the money will help people in texas as well as victims in florida and the caribbean hit hard by hurricane irma. the two men charged in observing's deadly ghostship fire are expected to plead not guilty in court. they each face 36 counts of involuntary manslaughter. one for each person killed in december's fire. almena rented the warehouse and illegally convert it had into living spaces. harris helped book musical acts performed in the building. the oakland a's are revealing where they want to build their new stadium, a 13-acre plot of land owned by the college district. the a's are offering to build housing and commercial space as an incentive to cut a deal. they want to open the ballpark in 2023 but there is already opposition.

activists from chinatown neighborhood fear low-income and immigrant family and business owners will be displaced. new medical marijuana dispensary opening in san francisco for at least the next 45 days. no new, i should say, medical dispensaries. the board of supervisors is imposing a moratorium while it works on regulations for the coming sale of recreational marijuana. now that starts january 1st. the supervisors want new rules to cover both medical and recreational pot. the city has 35 dispensaries right now. the board is expected to consider marijuana regulations this fall. santa clara county is committing at least $200,000 to help people caught up in the uncertainty over daca. the money will help renew their status before the october 1st deadline when president trump says he will end it. >> this is really a short window, so getting some assistance from the county is something that will be helpful. >> immigrants have to pay a $495 fee every two years to qualify for daca. about 1,700 of the county's

24,000 recipients are eligible to renew their status. >> families of some of the victims from the u.p.s. facility in san francisco are now suing. u.p.s. driver jimmy lam gunned down three before himself. the victims filed a lawsuit yesterday against u.p.s., its security company and the building's own. they claim he set off a metal detector but security guards did nothing to stop him. it also alleges workers had complained about security problems at that building. a third u.p.s. driver wayne chan was also killed. two others were wounded in the shooting. happening today you may notice it's a little quieter near some cal train stations. cal train engineers will only sound one short horn blast when passing through certain stations. it only affects stations where tracks and platforms are separated from street level but engineers will still continuously blow their horns at stations that have pedestrian

crossings. storms could develop in other parts of california and move into our neighborhoods. give you an idea what's going on down to our south where the strongest thunderstorms are right now just pummeling monterey and carmel wave after wave and a noisy night for those folks and it looks like that's going to be the best chance down to our south but we still have an isolated chance of a thunderstorm in that entire area you see shaded in color. so we'll keep the storm impact scale for this morning. we're going light. our lowest level because it's a chance of showers with some isolated thunder possible. a lot more drizzle out there this morning than anything. if you get caught under one of these thunderstorms, it could be breezy with a brief downpour and a remote chance of small hail. waking up in san francisco 60 for the cool spot. we have the marina, ocean beach, financial and ferry building and the marina at about 63. this is the way it looks in san mateo looking westbound to the peninsula. some slick spots you'll find out

on the roads this morning for your commute planner. a damp morning if you're taking mass transit. light breezes if you'll be on the bay. a quick look at today's high temperatures, most of us in the 70s. so it's going to be kind of mild and humid today. more on that threat of thunderstorms and the roller coaster of temperatures coming our way next. here's alexis. i want to head back out to the central valley where we have an issue this morning. it does not take much to slow do you know this commute. westbound 580 past grant line road. a three-car crash blocking the far left lane. a few more details from chp. it sounds like one person with minor injuries and then all three vehicles involved need to be towed away. so that's not great. we do have emergency crews on the scene but this could be a while before we get this totally cleared. you're already down to just 10 miles an hour out of tracy. altamont pass road, there's not a lot of great alternates through the stretch. westbound 80 past cherry glenn road. be on the lookout for a large appliance. someone lost a refrigerator and

just in, i want to show you this new video we're getting a huge fire in tampa, florida, at a school there, an elementary school. it caught fire right after the power was restored after hurricane irma. no one was hurt. classes were canceled anyway due to aftermath of irma and this school was not being used as a shelter. no word on what it will take to rebuild that. coming in to our live desk, live images as folks start to go back

to their homes. you can see them surveying the damage near the waterfront, some of those piers along the area in tampa, a lot of homes there damaged and a lot of folks, a lot of traffic, too, as i've been watching the live images. reggie, back to you. >> thank you, jessica. okay, speaking of homes but back here there just aren't enough of them for sale. a house just went for way, way over asking price. our media partner the mercury news reports a sunnyvale home recently sold for nearly $800,000 over asking. this is a four-bedroom, two-bathhouse listed at $1.7 million but sold for under $2.5 million. the keller williams agent who represented the seller says it may have set a record for the most a home has gone. the buyer's agent says the

client was tired of getting outbid. police hope you will recognize a man suspected of robbing a woman. surveillance cameras captured these on monday morning. the man showed her what appeared to be a handgun. he then took her purse and got off the train at south hayward. the victim was not hurt. if you recognize the man please call b.a.r.t. police. >> threats from north korea. seoul is calling this test of its newest long-range missile a big success. south korea shared this video of a missile making its way around obstacles before hitting a target offshore. the taurus is intended to boost south korea's ability to launch preemptive air strikes. seoul is ramping up capabilities in the face of recent nuclear weapons tests. you probably didn't know this but it's technically illegal to cross the street when the walk

and that marriage is going well, so -- good morning, everybody. san jose, 280 and 17, a little drizzle possible for you. also let's take a look at your accuweather highlights. a damp morning. a dry afternoon. drier and cooler air rolling in tonight. tomorrow morning and tomorrow afternoon seasonal temperatures on the way. notice the moisture arcing almost all the way around us and that's a sign that we're not going to see a lot but still a chance of thunderstorms this morning. this is the way it plays out. a few green spots out there, drizzle, the more dominant feature in our morning, more of that as we head through at noon you can see that

starting to wane. the mountains down to our south along the central coast. let's take a look at what will happen. nudging that low away from us brings in that drier, cooler than average air for thursday. we rebound back to average friday with morning clouds and afternoon sunshine. just about total sunshine saturday and sunday with 60s at the coast. 70s around the bay. 80s inland. possibly cooler next week. that's a ways away. we'll focus in on what's going on this morning. >> they're stuck a little bit? >> they were a little dry. >> a couple issues on the road so not sure if that has to do with maybe a little bit of moisture on the pavement but it certainly could. the north bay a roll over crash, two vehicles involved total.
