national mourning. >> reporter: at the site where a school once stood in mexico city, rescue workers listen for the sounds of . the bodies of at least 21 children and four teachers have been recovered after an entire wing of an elementary school collapsed. president nieto visited the school overnight. this was our school, these were our children, this woman tells the president. rescue workers still searching for two children and one teacher missing in the rubble. it struck about 75 miles southeast of mexico city, entire buildings flattened in a cloud of dust. in mexico city alone, the mayor said at least 44 buildings collapsed. one reporter said the high-rise buildings in the capital city swayed, sickeningly. all throughout central mexico,

>> it is a race against time. in mexico city, crews scramble to rescue people trapped in the rubble from the magnitude 7.1 quake. crews have rescued at least 52 people trapped in collapsed buildings since the quake hit nearly 30 hours ago. the latest death toll is at 223. at leaf 25 were killed inside an elementary school. most of them children. rescuers were able to locate young girl alive amid the rubble today. >> abc7 news reporter carlos are where the girl was found with more. >> reporter: in a frantic seven for life, rescuers are clawing their way through rubble in what was once an elementary school. raise go their hands above their heads as they silence the crowd.
