61 to 65 with an autumn breeze blowing. we'll be 61 at the coast at 4:00. undo t the bay and inland mostly sunny. mostly sunny at 7:00. temperatures already flirting with the 50s which means we have an even colder night coming ahead, plus a big warming trend. here's alexis. the san mateo bridge, very light volumes as you would expect at 4:30 in the morning. westbound 92 no problems there. if you are leaving the central valley, looking great so far this morning, westbound 580 tracy to castro valley still in the green at 41 minutes. and northbound 280 highway 1 to san francisco also in the green at ten minutes. word of a new problem in the north bay. we'll check on that next. okay. and this morning we tracking hurricane a maria this morning. it is now on its way to the dom.

it is a c ory 3 storm. it has caused damage in puerto rico. i want to show you this new video here so you can see how the destruction looks there. this is from an apartment in san juan. it's destroyed, windows blorn out, ceiling torn apart. look at that. cars up to the bumper in water. puerto rico is under a curfew as this cleanup begins. abcet n saenzew has more details from washington. >> reporter: good morning. the governor of puerto rico issued a curfew overnight from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. extending until saturday. the hope is rescue teams can get to work after the devastation caused by hurricane maria. puerto rico picking up the pieces from the wrath of hurricane maria. the category 4 storm tearing through the island, roofs ripped off buildings, debris flying, structures toppling. some areas have seen 30 inches of rain. residents trying desperately to keep the water out of their

homes. the wind howls and screeches, the doors rattle. the emergency management director saying the entire island is destroyed. many homes not built to withstand hurricanes let alone a category 4. the island's 3.4 million people in the dark. officials confirming 100% of puerto rico lost power. hospitals now running on generators. 12,000 people packing into shelters. hotel ball rooms and sports arenas turned into safe havens. the recovery slowly beginning. though hurricane maria has passed over puerto rico, officials are urging residents to shelter in place and stay vigilant. flash flooding and mud slides could be as dangerous as the initial rain and winds. arlette saenz, abc washington. on to new details on free speech week at uc berkeley and the major attention on crowds and security. >> the uc system is now pitching in to help with a large amount of cash. amy hollyfield live on cal's campus this morning.

amy? >> reporter: good morning, reggie. i talked to a student who pulled an all-nighter studying. i asked him how people feel about free speech week. students are worried about safety and concerned what this will cost the university. the "l.a. times" is reporting that uc is going to help this campus a bit and pitch in the of security. here is what we know so far about free speech week. it will start sunday and will last through wednesday. all events will be outside at plaza.spul more than 20 speakers. one confirmed speaker is milo yiannopoulos. he has been here before. his planned speech in february was canceled because violent protesters showed up and police other expected speakers next week include steve bannon and ann coulter. campus officials have estimated that security next week for all of this could top $1 million. reporting live in berkeley, amy

hollyfield, abc 7 news. >> amy, thank you. recent hate incidents are prompting tighter security at some synagogues as members observe the high holidays. abc 7 news was at temple israel for the beginning of rosh hashanah last night. it has enhanced its security camera system. a private company has increased its presence. >> we are being extra vigilant but we have done a lot of things in terms of permanent security for the temple. hate doesn't work in our town or any town. >> last month someone smashed thete's w inw and left hate speech stickers. in the south bay police need your help identifying a burglary suspect. the sunnyvale department posted this photo of a man wanted in connection with two commercial burglaries. if you recognize him you're asked to call the department. happening today the california nurses association's convention kicks off in san francisco. it's being held at the san

francisco marriott on mission street. about 1,000 people including rns from 27 states expected to attend. tomorrow morning lieutenant governor gavin newsom, who has been endorsed by the cna for governor in 2018 will speak at the convention. and tomorrow afternoon senator bernie sanders will address nurse delegates. that comes one week after the es tiucontr.od a new development in the russia investigation now. twitter officials plan to meet staff of the senate intelligence committee next week. the committee is scrutinizing the spread of stories during the len mo abo fak networks. twitter says it's been working to reduce the number of bots on the platform but won't share details. >> a statue of christopher columbus will soon be history at san jose city hall. a city committee voted to move the statue. now it wants public input about where it should go and what

factored into the proposed project. we have some good news for the dominican republic at least right now. the fastest winds you can see in the orange and red just offshore but they're getting gusty breezes, at s ltorm force 39 miles per hour or faster right now. and as we look at this it is a category 3 storm right now. winds 150 miles per hour. so the mountainous parts of puerto rico, which is just about the entire island, did disrupt the wind flow enough to drop this down from a 4 to a 3, and it has slowed down a little bit which means it will maintain strength as it heads to the turks and caicos tonight. it's going to skirt it just to the north, which is good because that means you're on the south side of the storm which is weaker. and then the storm, for the most part, the directness o t eye, w miss the bahamas and possibly bermuda but squeeze right between bermuda and the u.s.
