warm springs. we'll take a look at drive times up next. >> alexis, thank you. developing news now. rescuers frantically working to save survivors after that powerful earthquake in mexico. at least 230 people have died. here's arlette are racing against time, working to rescue a young girl trapped inside the rubble of what was once an elementary school. officials believe two others may be trapped in the rubble with her. rescuers peeking into the debris, raising their arms above their heads to silence the crowd as they listen for signs of life. at least 25 people were killed when an entire wing of the school collapsed, most of them children. so much of the school destroyed, but students' backpacks still hangils.er e oy miraculously 11 people from the school have been rescued after being buried under the rubble. 13-year-old rodrigo was lucky enough to escape. saying he had to be evacuated by

am keeping my eye on broadcasts from mexico city right now. we're hoping to get word on that rescue effort under way to save that 12-year-old girl arlette just mentioned. her name is sophia and i want to show you this video from just a few moments ago. this is the search under way that has happened overnight. rescuers have been able to get her water and oxygen but they have been struggling to get her safely out from beneath the debris. arlette mentioned moments ago other kids may be alive trapped inside there and as i've been listening to the broadcasts here this morning from the tv station i can tell you -- i speak spanish and i've been listening, some families saying they don't want machinery to go in there because they are hoping after hearing this little girl is still alive that their family members might still be alive underneath that bble. that's the sceneru playing out. it's hard to hear those interviews, natasha. >> thank you, jessica.

it is 5:04 now. an earthquake early warning system could save lives in california. developers seem to be lacking fund. scientists at uc berkeley are working on an earthquake warning system for the bay area, developing a separate pilot program as well called shake alert. the proposal to cut the budget this year but the program's funding is still up in the air. mexico and japan are fully implemented their early warning systems. people had a 20-second warning before the 7.1 quake on tuesday. >> the motivations were big earthquakes that did a lot of damage and killed a lot of people and so the united states hasn't had that situation. >> shake alert is scheduled for a limited public rollout next year. they plan to test it in places like schools and hospitals. well, don't be alarm next wednesday, fema plans to test em. emergency alert syst the test interrupting radio, tv and cable programs. it will last about a minute and

you'll hear the words this is a national test of the emergency alert system, this is only a test. this is scheduled to happ next wednesday around 11:20 a.m. if canceled a backup test set for october 4. developing news out of berkeley where parents are being warned about a suspicious man. the berkeley unified school district says someone tried to lure a middle schooler at a bus stop at shattuck and durant avenues. the 12-year-old tells abc 7 news the man drove a dark green minivan. she says he had a dark beard and >>e wa gesturing me to come to his car or in his car and he was blowing air kisses and waving. >> the suspect description is similar to that of a man involved in two incidents in 2015. in those case as man in a dark green minivan tried to lure girls on telegraph avenue near willard middle school. berkeley police have not said if these cases are connected. alameda police are searching for a peeping tom. look at this video. it clearly captures him walking

looking into windows. police posted this on their facebook page. officials say he's been targeting homes for several days. all overnight between 11:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. if you have any idea who this is call alameda police. happening today we're expecting to get our first look at a memorial installation honoring the 36 lives lost in oakland's ghost ship fire. local artists are working on the tribute and we're told it's in the form of a ship's mast. the installation will include written messages and memories. people will be invited to add their thoughts to the ship and it will open october 18th. the ghost ship fire was the deadliest in oakland's history. more than four years after the deadly asiana crash, the only passenger claim is heading to trial now. according to our media partner the bay area news group, santa clara dental surgeon claims she can no longer work because of

point to that would show why these prices are so low. 49ers are on a bad run for the past couple of seasons. they're winless so far this season, 0-2. new head coach and gm. a lot of complaints about the heat in the seat section exposed to the sun. it's hard to believe three years ago when this stadium opened up the 49ers had the highest estimated price in the nfl for a family of four to attend a game at $641. after hurricane maria. that storm knocked out power on the entire island and it caused massive floods and landslides. experts say it's the strongest hurricane to hit puerto rico in more than 80 years. this morning rescuers out in full force searching for survivors. >> the first priority is going to be saving of lives, not just in puerto rico, the u.s. virgin islands. i'm especially concerned with st. croix that was also in the path of hurricane maria when it was a hurricane 5 hurricane. >> the go of of puerto rico issued a curfew through saturday. hurricane maria is now the dominican republic and headed up to the turks and caicos. it's a category 3 storm but the fastest winds are just off the shore right there in the dominican republic so they're getting lashed by winds and high surf and heavy rain that's going to cause f sainwodlo in puerto rico.
