"world news now." good morning to you all. we begin with the international effort to rescue people still trapped in mexico. >> that includes a team from the u.s. who brought five dogs with them. some equipment was developed after a similar mission following the 1985 mexican earthquake. >> nearly three days have passed since the earthquake and the time to find survivors may be running out as matt gutman reports. >> reporter: 48 hours after the earth shook and the buildings

here came down, new images of survivors being pulled from tombs of rubble. these mexican firefighters easing this woman out of a hole in the ceiling. first the legs, then the rest of her body. she emerges wi toklot f o shock and those tears. over 50 people have been rescued here since that massive 7.1 magnitude quake on tuesday. but there are still families waiting by the lists of the missing, desperate for word of loved ones. the l.a. county fire and rescue team arrived with special equipment to assist in the searches. among the most dramatic rescues, these children at the henrique rebsamen school. bystanders cry as they coax the children to come through the gap in the wall. scooping them up. after more than 36 hours, the entire nation was transfixed on this flattened school, hoping to see one more chicues r.ed

that's a 61-year-old hunter getting quite a ride after being rescued from a forest in minnesota. apparently he had gotten lost and wound up being out in the wild for three days. >> luckily, he had enough food with him, and he was able to light a fire, which helped rescuers see him using a thermal imaging camera. the man's ride ended in the clearing. happy to learn he's okay. >> he ended up drinking swamp water to survive.

i just wanted to talk through a little bit about rabbit adoption. i get asked so many questions about frank, and it's amazing what little people know about how great pets rabbits can be. walk us through some of the questions you get at the shelter. >> okay. surely. this is sherry. she was found in a park in queens. it happens that she was spayed when we took her to the vet, which is really unusual. this is lola. we took her from the new york city shelter, where we are a partner. these are two healthy girls. to the right maui and oahu. brother and sister, they grew up together. >> they look like little stuffed animals. >> they're very cute. >> one of the questions i get is how long rabbits can live. and the answer varies quite a bit. >> yes. rabbits, if well taken care of, can live anywhere from 8 to 12 years. that means proper diet, proper exercise, stimulation, and lots of love and attention. >> right, this is not a quick, two, three-year pet. and a lot of people ask about diet. you watch bugs bunny, bugs bunny eats carrots.

people think rabbits eat carrots. how do you take care of them? >> the most important aspect of their diet is hay. it helps move their digestive system along as well as trim >> talk about the affection they get. they all have their own different personalities and quirks. he's so loveable. he sits next to me on the couch, watches tv with me, cuddles up next to me. i post a lot of videos and people are always surprised, i can't believe he's a bunny. he acts like a dog. if you give them affection, bunnies give you this affection back. what are some of the important things about having a rabbit as a pet. >> they do interact. they'll nudge you if you stop petting them. which is very cute. >> frank will hey, he almost smacks you. keep petting me. >> a lot of fun things about rabbits are the little antics they have. they do the bunny 500. >> frank does that a lot. it's like a full sprint.

>> reporter: days after a 7.1 earthquake rocked mexico city, many buildings here reduced to survivors from the rubble. they pulled this woman out of ceiling, her legs emerged first then the rest of her body. more than 50 have been rescued so far. but for anxious family members desperate for news of missing loved ones, the wait has been agonizing. this woman saying i think that is what kills us the most. the desperation of not knowing. focussed their attention on a ruined elementary school, painstakingly making their way through the rubble hoping to find anyone trapped inside. they signal for silence, listening tor signs of life. for some time believing a 12 year old girl was alive under that debris. then the word that there was no girl. all students had been accounted

and caicos islands. which remain under a hurricane warning overnight. there's a tropical storm warning in the southeastern bahamas. the last target was the dominican republic, the country still being hit with torrential rains and high winds overnight. there have been gusts reported as high as 60 miles an hour. we're told it could be months before some people in puerto rico have power again. maria knocked out electricity to all 3.4 million americans living there. today fema is opening what it calls an air bridge to the island. military transports will bring in generators, water, food and temporary shelters. american airlines also plans to fly in supplies later today. and dominica's governor says they have no water, no power and limited communications. roosevelt skerrit says there is almost complete devastation in some villages. at least 15 people have died in dominica so far. the prime minister was evacuated to antigua. the military launched an offensive days ago. iraq's military says they have taken back most of the country,

about 90%, from terrorists. and in raqqah, the battle is in the final stages. that key city was once fully controlled by isis. coalition forces estimate that they have captured about 70% of the city. that has caused some isis fighters to simply surrender. the number of fighters still remaining in the city is less than 1,000. it was about 3,000 when the offensive started in june.

an ugly scene in new york city. new video showing protesters punched as they were thrown out of a speech by the turkish president. some demonstrators screamed that recep erdogan is a terrorist. and then they were grabbed by security. no arrests were made. part of his visit included a meeting with president trump. now the president described the two men as having a great friendship. thursday's protest comes four months after security officers attacked demonstrators outside the turkish embassy in washington, d.c. facebook has agreed to turn over more than 3,000 political ads to congress. the political ads were bought by a russian company and ran during the presidential campaign and most of them either praised president trump or criticized hillary clinton. zuckerberg says he doesn't want their tools used to undermine democracy.
