a 12-year-old girl who had become a beacon of hope thought to be trapped in the rubble didn't exist. all children at the school are accounted for. a popular san francisco restaurant is raising money for the victims of the mexico earthquake. the owner of cala owns a restaurant in mexico city that restaurant is serving free food to rescue workers and volunteers. the bathrooms are open to the public along with free wi-fi and an area to charge cell phones. >> that really has channelled my sadness and frustration for not being there. in a very positive way. >> cala restaurant will charge $100 for sunday brunch and drinks. that fund-raiser will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. all the money goes to the red cross, unicef and the mexican volunteer rescue agency. if you want to help the victims we've made it easy. we have links on our website to multiple charities that are accepting donations. check abc7news.com for information.

lieutenant governor newsom and bernie sanders will be speaking at the nurses association convention in san francisco. newsom is scheduled to address delegates this morning. the cna endecreased him for governor in 2018. sanders will speak at 1:00 p.m. and his appearance comes a week after the introduction of his national medicare for all legislation. afterwards sanders will be the guest of honor at city college of san francisco's ocean campus at 3:30 p.m. he endorsed city college's free tuition program before the last presidential election. >> a last-minute settlement will stop a trial involving the deadly asiana plane the airline was challenging the severity of the injury. jury selection was supposed to begin today. our media partner the bay area news group reports both sides reached an agreement yesterday. the deal settles the final claim by the more than 300 people onboard that flight. san francisco police have

arrested one of the department's own officers following an internal affairs probe for a vehicle code violation. officer joel babs faces two misdemeanor charges, one count for having false license plate stickers and another for filing a false police report. he's assigned to a nonpublic contact position. a santa cruz doctor and two nurses accused of molesting children face new charges this morning. the 32 additional counts stem from new video investigators say shows them abusing three children. a judge increased bail to $15 million for dr. james kohut, rashel brandon and steve fen stephens. kohut's accused of luring women with intentions to molest their children. the christopher columbus statue in san jose city hall was vandalize add day after city leaders agreed to remove it. this is the statue before someone poured red and black paint on it. a city council committee vote it had should be relocated.

being charged for that recent explosion at a london subway station. you'll remember only last week a bomb exploded in the london underground injuring 29 people and this morning police say they are charging an 18-year-old, being charged with attempted murder and maliciously causing an explosion. five others were already arrested following that bombing. the future of the mavericks is again in doubt. the santa cruz sentinel reports the commissioners voted not to vote on the transfer of a five-year contest permit for the event. one of the commissioners told the newspaper she doesn't support the paper because it's poorly written though she supports the event. a judge approved the sale of the permit to the world surf league as part of a bankruptcy proceeding. the wsl must decide how it will proceed. the board says it does not plan to revisit the transfer. in the east bay growing concern over how a big earthquake could affect the reservoir specifically experts are concerned that that concrete

tower that rises out of the water could topple or collapse in strong shaking. it's a drainage device and a broken tower could cause a leak sending water down the creek through lafayette. east bay mud is looking at ways to stabilize it and it could cost millions of dollars for an expedited fix. around the clock repairs at the oroville dam should be repaired by the rainy season. it started breaking apart because of run-off. the potential of catastrophic flooding forced evacuations. engineers are accused of doing a poor job of inspecting california's dams. >> it's actually something that nationally and internationally dam owners are looking at and trying to figure out what new systems can we put in place, how can we re-assess our process to ensure the safety of our infrastructure. >> and now you're looking at the latest problem at lake oroville, low water levels. state officials released so much water to prevent future

overflows that the lake is now too shallow for houseboats to dock at two marinas. a memorial to the victims of the ghost ship fire is going up in oakland. abc 7 news is at the oakland museum of california as the artist worked on a sculpture that is a tribute. they died in last december's fire. some people who have seen it have been moved to add their own tributes to the victims. the sculpture is part of the upcoming exhibit that opens on october 18th. this is going to be one of the oddest stories you'll hear today. gatorade agreed not to make disparaging comments about water. it's all part of a settlement with california. the state sued gatorade because of allegations in a cell phone game featuring sprinter usain bolt. users would refuel bolt with gatorade after being told keep your performance level high and avoid water. the state says that message harms children's nutritional choices. gatorade had to pay $300,000 in
