we'll stay in the 60s at the coast. about 70 to 73 around the bay and inland. below average once again at 4:00. look at those temperatures at 7:00. nice evening, 59 to about 64. we'll take a look at that warming trend up next. here's alexis. >> good morning, mike. and our only slow spot so far this morning and it is starting to improve. 880 a full closure overnight between 23rd and 29th for more work on the 23rd avenue overpass scheduled to wrap up and reopen by 5:00 a.m. and it looks like they got that done a few minutes ahead of schedule. and we're looking good everywhere else, too, just a little bit after stack up in the cash lanes for the bay bridge toll plaza on the left-hand side. the metering lights flip on around 5:25. we'll look at drive times up next. it is right around the corner, free speech week kicking off on sunday. >> and berkeley is asking residents to, quote, separate yourself from violence. abc 7 news reporter amy hollyfield live for us on campus.

amy? >> reporter: hi, good morning, reggie. both sides are mobilizing here on campus. we walked around sproul plaza and found these flyers calli them to shut down milo yiannopoulos. yiannopoulos post add video showing someone posting anti-berkeley signs full of expletives and then shows someone pulling them down. yiannopoulos, the alt-right speaker, is set to s peak wednesday. there are already plans to protest his appearance. >> this, quote/unquote, free speech week, terror week, series of speakers is just meant to harass, to target, isolate and harass like the most vulnerable students on campus. >> reporter: the city of berkeley has put out advice on how to deal with these protests. first separate yourself from the violence. second, the city says don't create a spectacle out of an event.

counterprotests should be planned far away from the main event. the city also encourages residents to focus on what else is going on other than protests and counterprotests. free speech week is starting this sunday. it will last through wednesday. all speeches will be outside here in sproul plaza. counterprotesters starting tomorrow with a no hate in berkeley community march. that is set for noon. reporting live in berkeley, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. and breaking news, don't count on uber to go take to you see big ben or buckingham palace the next time you are in london. the city is saying good-bye to uber. the london transport authority announced this morning it will not renew uber's license to operate there. they say uber is not fit and proper to hold a private hire operator license. they blame that on uber and how they handle criminal offense s

the mayor of london said he supports the decision. we did reach out to uber this morning. so far no response. happening today a dental assistant will be sentenced for molesting young girls. 24-year-old saro faces 25 years to life in prison. they say he molested as many as 50 young girls while sedated. he was arrested in april at la clinica. a girl said he sexually assaulted her and recorded it on his cell phone. he worked at four different dental offices. pittsburg police need your help in identifying this woman seen here stealing children's books authorities say she took more than $1,000 worth of books. it is a city owned nonprofit bookstore that gives books to schools throughout contra costa county. organizers planning a march and rally in san francisco to

demand justice in the shooting death of a transgender activist. anthony torres known by many as bubbles was killed nearly two weeks ago after an argument. police say there's n evidence to suggest a hate crime took place. the march begins at 4:00 and will be followed by a rally at 5:00 p.m. on the steps of city hall. it's 5:05. authorities are investigating a fire in sonoma county. flames filled the two-story home. the fire broke out on burgundy way last night and everyone did get out safely but the house is a total loss. they tell the press democrat it may be a while before they determine what may have started this. the charred remains are too unstable for investigators to go in immediately. facebook is handing over 3,000 ads to congressional invests.orat investigations uncovered fake accounts linked to russia. abc 7 news reporter katie marzullo has mark zuckerberg's statement. >> i don't want anyone to use

governments from interference but we can make it harder, much harder. >> reporter: adding 250 people to facebook's election integrity team and making political advertising more transparent to users. it's 5:07. happening today residents of san francisco sunset district plan to rally over medical marijuana dispensaries. they're upset about meetings they call suspicious between city supervisors, planning commissioners, and lobbyists for medical marijuana dispensaries. residents appear to be concerned those meetings are designed to okay dispensary in their district. they say the lobbyists who met with commissioners represents the dispensary owned by former oakland mayor. the san francisco marathon may soon have a new route. today the golden gate bridge board of directors scheduled to vote to reaffirm they don't want that iconic structure closed anymore for special events. they want to keep it all open to traffic.

directors say it's a public safety issue. they want to avoid a possible terror attack. they'll vote at 10:00. b.a.r.t.'s next extension will be the hot topic at a workshop today part of phase two of a six-mile extension in that will run from the area of san jose into downtown in santa clara. today board members are meet to go talk about tunnels needed to get trains to san jose. they will talk about the specific location of the downtown san jose stations. this morning's workshop starts at 9:00 in san jose. home prices are rising in the east bay. the east bay times reports the number of single family homes on the market dropped last month. forcing prices up. the median price for a home in a dozen cities is over $1 million. here are some of the latest numbers from the east bay association of realtors. prices in moraga up 21% from a year ago. year ago. they're 18% higher in

north america airport satisfaction survey sacramento international ranks highest among all airports in the country. in the mega airport category ranks ninth. for large airports john wayne airport is number one. oakland comes 15th. the medium airports category finds sacramento to be number one. burbank, number 13. and san jose 15th. >> happening today bay area first responders set to help hurricane victims on their way home. the last members are driving equipment back to oakland expected to arrive around noon. task force traveled more than 8,000 miles helping victims of harvey in texas and then irma in florida. the team is made of first responders from several bay area including oakland and alameda county firefighters. an unexpected splash for cars driving on the highway yesterday afternoon. dawson sent us this video. a driver in a convertible, people caught off guard here. oh, man. after a water line next to the

mid-70s. warmth around the bay, mid to upper 80s and low to mid-90s inland. that's the heat wave i was talking about. here's alexis. a couple new issues to talk about or possibly have two new ones, possibly just one as well. they're getting multiple calls in to chp about a crash on southbound saying i1.t's near sfo. another one saying it's in the burlingame area south of there near broadway. as we zoom in a little bit you can see the red filling in on 101. that makes me believe it's probably closer to that second further south location. it sounds like four vehicles total. one hit the center divide and is now on fire. so we do have emergency crews on the way to the scene. definitely expect some delays and be on the lookout. you can head over to 280 to avoid that completely. a quick check of the south 1 a 88y,0ba starting to fill in just a bit but overall still enjoying light volumes. alexis, thank you. hewlett-packard plans to cut at least 5,000 jobs. that's about 10% of its staff.

sources tell bloomberg news the layoffs are expected to begin by the end of the year. they say it will affect workers and managers in the u.s. and abroad. the palo alto-based company is trying to cut expenses to compete. high school students have developed an app to help classmates meet people from different backgrounds. the project breaks down barriers whether it be race, religion or lipo teens spent the summer creating the app. it connects them in chatrooms. abc 7 news got aor its public debut next week. >> molded into an algorithm that connects snt detudiffserent backgrounds from different experiences who likely don't have similar experiences and stories and so what our goal with this is for students to share stories and understand the different perspectives. >> the school districts will use the app and incorporate it into their curriculum. >> next, the seven things you need to know as you start your day.

a 12-year-old girl who had become a beacon of hope thought to be trapped in the rubble didn't exist. all children at the school are accounted for. a popular san francisco restaurant is raising money for the victims of the mexico earthquake. the owner of cala owns a restaurant in mexico city that restaurant is serving free food to rescue workers and volunteers. the bathrooms are open to the public along with free wi-fi and an area to charge cell phones. >> that really has channelled my sadness and frustration for not being there. in a very positive way. >> cala restaurant will charge $100 for sunday brunch and drinks. that fund-raiser will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. all the money goes to the red cross, unicef and the mexican volunteer rescue agency. if you want to help the victims we've made it easy. we have links on our website to multiple charities that are accepting donations. check abc7news.com for information.

and i have a breaking news update on that breakup between uber and the city of london. uber has responded saying that, quote, far from being open, london is closed to innovative companies. so they're talking back this morning. and you heard earlier in our newscast, i mentioned this, the city saying good-bye to uber. the london transport authority says they will not renew the license to operate there. uber is not fit and proper to hold a proper operator license and that decision said to be based on the way uber handles criminal offenses as well as because the app can block full access to regulators. natasha? >> very interesting, thank you, jess. happening today divers will try to locate several shipping containers that slid off a ship into oakland's outer harbor. 11 empty containers went into the water yesterday. crews secured the ones that they could spot so they wouldn't drift away, but some of the containers sank. the coast guard is guiding ships around the area as a precaution.

lieutenant governor newsom and bernie sanders will be speaking at the nurses association convention in san francisco. newsom is scheduled to address delegates this morning. the cna endecreased him for governor in 2018. sanders will speak at 1:00 p.m. and his appearance comes a week after the introduction of his national medicare for all legislation. afterwards sanders will be the guest of honor at city college of san francisco's ocean campus at 3:30 p.m. he endorsed city college's free tuition program before the last presidential election. >> a last-minute settlement will stop a trial involving the deadly asiana plane the airline was challenging the severity of the injury. jury selection was supposed to begin today. our media partner the bay area news group reports both sides reached an agreement yesterday. the deal settles the final claim by the more than 300 people onboard that flight. san francisco police have

arrested one of the department's own officers following an internal affairs probe for a vehicle code violation. officer joel babs faces two misdemeanor charges, one count for having false license plate stickers and another for filing a false police report. he's assigned to a nonpublic contact position. a santa cruz doctor and two nurses accused of molesting children face new charges this morning. the 32 additional counts stem from new video investigators say shows them abusing three children. a judge increased bail to $15 million for dr. james kohut, rashel brandon and steve fen stephens. kohut's accused of luring women with intentions to molest their children. the christopher columbus statue in san jose city hall was vandalize add day after city leaders agreed to remove it. this is the statue before someone poured red and black paint on it. a city council committee vote it had should be relocated.

a group start add petition to get it removed saying columbus committed genocide on native americans. the warriors open training camps in downtown oakland but with the new season coming many are still wondering if the warriors will celebrate their nba championship at the white hous head coach steve kerr tells espn no decision has been made. kerr says the team plans to discuss the matter this fall. the warriors have not been invited yet by the trump administration but believed an invitation would be extended if the team goes as a group. ken durant said he didn't want to celebrate the title with president trump because he doesn't respect him. don't let the satellite peck tour fool you. we have marie and she's formidable. got it a little faster as we went through the overnight hours. still lashing out with the fastest winds just now reaching some of the i'm lands. they're going to have wind damage there.

being charged for that recent explosion at a london subway station. you'll remember only last week a bomb exploded in the london underground injuring 29 people and this morning police say they are charging an 18-year-old, being charged with attempted murder and maliciously causing an explosion. five others were already arrested following that bombing. the future of the mavericks is again in doubt. the santa cruz sentinel reports the commissioners voted not to vote on the transfer of a five-year contest permit for the event. one of the commissioners told the newspaper she doesn't support the paper because it's poorly written though she supports the event. a judge approved the sale of the permit to the world surf league as part of a bankruptcy proceeding. the wsl must decide how it will proceed. the board says it does not plan to revisit the transfer. in the east bay growing concern over how a big earthquake could affect the reservoir specifically experts are concerned that that concrete

tower that rises out of the water could topple or collapse in strong shaking. it's a drainage device and a broken tower could cause a leak sending water down the creek through lafayette. east bay mud is looking at ways to stabilize it and it could cost millions of dollars for an expedited fix. around the clock repairs at the oroville dam should be repaired by the rainy season. it started breaking apart because of run-off. the potential of catastrophic flooding forced evacuations. engineers are accused of doing a poor job of inspecting california's dams. >> it's actually something that nationally and internationally dam owners are looking at and trying to figure out what new systems can we put in place, how can we re-assess our process to ensure the safety of our infrastructure. >> and now you're looking at the latest problem at lake oroville, low water levels. state officials released so much water to prevent future

overflows that the lake is now too shallow for houseboats to dock at two marinas. a memorial to the victims of the ghost ship fire is going up in oakland. abc 7 news is at the oakland museum of california as the artist worked on a sculpture that is a tribute. they died in last december's fire. some people who have seen it have been moved to add their own tributes to the victims. the sculpture is part of the upcoming exhibit that opens on october 18th. this is going to be one of the oddest stories you'll hear today. gatorade agreed not to make disparaging comments about water. it's all part of a settlement with california. the state sued gatorade because of allegations in a cell phone game featuring sprinter usain bolt. users would refuel bolt with gatorade after being told keep your performance level high and avoid water. the state says that message harms children's nutritional choices. gatorade had to pay $300,000 in
