ama daetz is on maternity leave. a's rookie bruce maxwell took a knee. tonight the oakland unified honor band did the same. live at the ballpark with more on the message those students delivered tonight. katie? >> reporter: dan, some fans were not happy about tonight's protest, but students tell me this was their opportunity to be heard because they're simply not old enough to vote. ♪ playing the national anthem in front of a major league crowd can be nerve-racking, but tonight students say it was empowering. >> people get to see what we're thinking because everybody has their own opinion. >> reporter: the oakland yeun fied school district honor band took a knee while playing the anthem at the oakland athletics game. >> they're at the age where they don't have a lot of power because they can't vote and they're just watching what's happening. but they're also old enough to know what's going on. >> reporter: president donald

trump said nfl players should stand for the national anthem or be fired, referenced colin kaepernick. students are upset about the president's rhetoric, the violence in charlotte, and other issues some may consider too mature for children. >> we want fod say what he's saying is not okay. >> my kids come home and talk a lot about what's going on in the world and with our current administration, and even my 9-year-old son, he has a lot to say. it's just amagz. >> reporter: the band first took a knee last year when kaepernick first started the protests. >> last year about two-thirds of the kids took a knee during the national anthem. that was the first time any of the musicians had ever taken a knee that we're aware of across the nation. >> reporter: a few band members remained standing tonight. participation is voluntary. >> meantime, the nfl continued its protest over racial injustice tonight. the dallas cowboys and arizona cardinals either knelt or linked

arms during the national anthem in response to president trump's criticism. meanwhile, pittsburgh steeler alejandro villanueva says he was embarrassed standing alone yesterday. villanueva, an army veteran, says he unintentionally separated himself in the moments leading up to the anthem. >> everybody sees an image of me standing by myself. everybody thinks that the team and the steelers are not behind me, and that's absolutely wrong. it's quite the opposite. they all would have -- actually the entire team would have been out there with me. >> villanueva says he will continue standing for the anthem and respects others' right not to do so. abc7 news was at berkeley today where a group called united against right wing violence held a rally. this was supposed to be day two of a planned free speech week event. cal officials told us the university was played by organizers of free speech week that scheduled speakers that had never planned to actually come. now two more right wing speakers say they do intend to speak tomorrow. patriot prayer founder joey

gibson and child chapman. an officer in town to assist with the event, had two guns stolen outside the black bear diner. his department does not have set rules for how officers store their handguns. today drivers on the bay bridge noticed a billboard with a simple message, impeach president trump. abc7 news report lilian kim explains who's behind the ad and what they're trying to accomplish. >> reporter: the new bill board targeted people heading into san francisco. it displays the word impeach alongside a picture of the president and it certainly piqued the interest of bay bridge commuters. >> if i have to pay for it, i'm going to be a hot person. >> reportet assured there was no tax money involved. it cost courage campaign $1,500 for the billboard to display its ad for a week. the organization will see how the next few days go before

deciding whether to keep it up longer. and that decision will be based on traffic on its website, which is also displayed in the ad. it takes people directly to a petition calling for president trump's impeachment. >> we hope people see it and go, oh, my gosh. i agree. i didn't know there was an organization pushing for this and they might plug into the work we're doing. >> reporter: it also paid for an ad on the bay bridge applauding colin kaepernick for his national anthem protest. as for this latest ad, reaction is mixed. >> i think emblazingen that is a little too much. >> i'll go and look into it. if it's worth while, i might go ahead and sign it. >> reporter: courage campaign plans to put up similar billboards in seven districts where hillary clinton won the majority of votes. in oakland, lilian kim, abc7 news. breaking news in southern california. a fire has forced evacuations on the border of orange and riverside counties affects more than 1,000 people. it's burned 2,000 acres so far.

firefighters say the heat and wind have been just a dangerous combination. this fire is also burning dangerously close to state route 91 near riverside. check out this tractor-trailer that caught fire because of the flying embers now smoldering on the side of the road. new at 11:00, a mother is facing felony manslaughter charges in the deaths of her two daughters. alejandra ruiz who was the only survivor of a tragic car crash last year could be sentenced to 11 years in prison. she drove off the road into the petaluma river, where her car flipped over and submerged. the sisters were found strapped to their car seats and did not survive. tonight law enforcement in the south bay is searching for robbers who targeted unsuspecting atm customers. they hit four locations on september 8th, and now police have released their photos. they got a good look at them. abc7 news reporter katie marzullo has details.

>> reporter: the robbery happened at this chase branch at 8:30 in the morning. the victim was a woman using the atm. >> two suspects approached her. one grabbed her and said they had a firearm. she actually saw a firearm. >> reporter: these are the suspects, a man and woman in their mid to late 20s. a chase customer we talked to was shocked, especially given thyus b it could have gone real bad. the fact that it could have happened with people literally right next to this event. >> reporter: after comparing notes and photos with police in other cities, camel investigators linked the couple to three other daytime robberies on september 8th, one in santa clara, one in sunnyvale and another at this bank of america in san jose. >> incredibly surprising. wow, what are you thinking about, buddy? i see policemen here all the time. i hope they catch him. >> reporter: police are also releasing a description of the suspect's vehicle. it's a dark gray nissan sentra, four door, newer model with a spare tire on the driver's side.

greenberg tells me the disclosure now is better l s had a th right to know about the indian remains from the start, not just because of the possible impact on property value. >> for example, let's say you bought the property and wanted to put a swimming pool in the back, and disrupt a grave. you need to know that in advance. >> reporter: the company refused to be interviewed as did many of the buyers. they tell me they are consulting with attorneys and weighing their options, dan. >> i know you'll stay on this. >> sure will. moving on, u.s. capitol police arrested 181 protesters who disrupted today's hearing on the republican-led graham/cassidy health care bill. many showed up in wheelchairs urging lawmakers to oppose the bill intended to replace the affordable care act. republicans hope to push the bill through the senate before the september 30th deadline, but maine republican susan collins doo dashed that hope today when she announced she will not vote for the bill after seeing reports that it would cause millions to lose their health insurance.

let's go talk about the weather forecast. meteorologist sandhya patel is here as we start the first week of fall. sandhya? >> yeah, dan. it's going to include one word -- warm. basically it's just going to be warm all week long except by friday. things will change. i do have a sunset from earlier tonight. this is from our sutro tower, you could not have picked a more beautiful sunset. it's stunning. now, the warmth to build as you take a look at this live picture from our east bay hills camera. you will notice that it is definitely clear outside, and i do want to show you a live picture one more time again with the highlights. so we're looking at warmer fall weather over the next couple of days. the fire danger will be elevated as it is right now, and it will get cooler by the end of the workweek. so if you do not like this warm

weather, it changes by the end of the workweek. i do want to show you right now a look at the concerns coming up. high fire danger for tuesday and wednesday. it is going to be dry and windy in the hills and there's a low risk of heat illnesses possible, especially with the upcoming warm weather. so these things are to keep in mind. we a here's a look at live doppler 7. >> the skies are clear across the entire bay area. the winds are gusting out of the north-northeast. mount tam, 23 miles an hour. that is a wind that dries out the air. relative humidities have come up from earlier in the day. we head into tomorrow. notice what happens as that gusty wind develops. downsloping wind will reduce our humidity level. so it's going to be really dry in places like livermore down to 14%. you will notice petaluma, 17%. fire danger will be rising as the humidity drops. red flag warning for the north

and east bay continues until 5:00 p.m. wednesday. watch out if you're out and about everyone joying the warmth. the fire danger is running high. temperatures anywhere from the 50s to the 70s. here's a look at tuesday. sunrise at 7:01. it warms up quickly. 60s, 70s by lunchtime. you will notice very warm afternoon with upper 70s to the mid-90s before those temperatures fall. this will be the only sign of christmas in the air. tomorrow morning, upper 40s to the upper 50s under clear skies tomorrow afternoon. look at these temperatures. 90, san jose. 89 in sunnyvale. 88 in mountain view. beach weather with 70s, half moon bay, pacifica. san francisco, 85 degrees. north bay in the mid-90s from calistoga to santa rosa. east bay, berkeley, oakland, mid-to-upper 80s. a good 10 to 20 degrees above average. inla inland, low to mid-90s.
