u 2 broke the rules. beyonce did too. tonight the fight to let the show go on past curfew for performers at levi's stadium. good evening. i'm dan ashley. ama daetz is on maternity leave. tonight the fight involving music, money, and neighbors living near levi's stadium. coldplay is just days away from a concert at levi's stadium, and the santa clara city council still can't decide if it will extend the kurify by an hour to 11:00 p.m. abc 7 news reporter katie marzullo is reporting live at tonight's city council meeting. katie. >> reporter: dan, it was just minutes ago that the city council voted to move forward with plans for community outreach for the people who live around levi's stadium, but as of tonight no change to that 10:00 weeknight curfew. >> he has a right to his comments. that's fine. >> reporter: raised voices, even some hissing from the audience, and that was just over a'll

matter. with the ed sheeran concert scheduled for next year already canceled, it got heated over the curfew at levi's stadium. >> one concert can pay for i don't know, three, four, five police officers, new officers. same for firefighters. >> maybe it won't have that much impact if we did an ed sheeran concert on the weekend. >> the vice president of stadium operations called it politics. he said the ed sheeran concert could have generated $600,000 to $800,000 and more losses are coming. >> there are three or four other shows that we're trying to book for next year that are in the hopper that could fall on a weekday. if this doesn't pass at any time you can kiss those good-bye too. >> reporter: now, levi's has previously asked the council for maybe an exception to the curfew, just a few predetermined times a year, but the council has desnide that request, and as dan mentioned u2 and beyonce broke curfew this year.

live in santa clara, katie marzullo, abc 7 news. >> thanks so much. firefighters are on watch tonight for hot spots in the oakland hills after flames burned dangerously close to dozens of homes. people had to evacuate near the former leona quarry. abc 7 news reporter cornel bernard is live in oakland with details on this tonight. kornl? >> reporter: dan, with more red flag conditions on top for tomorrow oakland firefighters could be on scene for the next 24 hours looking for hot spots after a scary day. this is what a full-scale firefight looks like. this oakland hills blaze was attacked from all sides, from the air and the ground. about 100 homeowners living in this former rock quarry were told to get out. >> i just grabbed my passport. that's it. and my keys. >> reporter: but others grabbed their cell phones, capturing the raging wildfire just feet away from their back doors. >> very scary. we heard lots of bangs and booms, explosions. fire that looked like tornadoes.

it was nuts. >> reporter: sky 7 was over the fire. smoke could be seen for miles. with so many people calling 911 the system was momentarily overwhelmed. >> 911 was busy. >> reporter: red flag conditions hot and dry made for the perfect wildfire recipe. >> the fire made its run in the steep terrain, and then for us to be able to chase that fire, i mean, we had to climb in that terrain. >> reporter: other fire crews were stationed on the ridge above, protecting expensive homes off campus drive. this homeowner was grateful. >> thank god today the upper hand for fire department. thank god for that. >> reporter: oakland resident and warriors star klay thompson tweeted "just wanted to say thank you to firefighters and first responders working so hard to put this fire out." new homes were under construction near where the fire began but firefighters say a cause is still unknown. in oakland cornell bernard, abc 7 news. weather conditions certainly did not help the fire crews so, we have another warm day ahead of us too.

here's abc 7 news meteorologist sandhya patel. sandhya? >> fire danger remains elevated. let's take a look at the conditions near the fire lines right now. it is cooler. relative humidity has come up quite a bit. it's 42%. and the winds have dropped off. which is obviously good news. but the winds are not going to remain low very long. red flag warning for the north and east bay hills until 5:00 tomorrow night because the gusty winds and low humidity are expected again for round 2 tomorrow. winds are already gusting at knoxville creek out of the northeast 22 miles an hour. it's the kind of wind that drives you out and it will only increase as we head towards tomorrow which means more warm fall weather in store. but just in case you are wondering when the cooler air will arrive, i am pointing to what live doppler 7 is tracking. there is a storm. i'll be tracking that for you and letting you know if that's going to bring us anything. dan? >> interesting. thanks, sandhya, very much. abc 7 news was in san francisco where the hot weather has prompted city officials to open

libraries as cooling centers like this one. during the labor day heat wave three people died from what is believed to be heat-related illnesses. the city is also working with non-profits and elderly services groups to reach out to seniors who might be at risk as the temperatures rise. now, you can track the heat where you live on the abc 7 news accuweather app. just search accuweather in your app store to get forecast updates anytime. new details tonight about a san francisco police officer stabbed at sfo. even after being hurt he took a knife-wielding man down with his bare hands. abc 7 news reporter melanie woodrow has the story. >> reporter: it was here inside terminal 1 near a baggage claim that an sfpd officer located the suspicious man. deputy chief denise schmidt says when the officer asked the man if everything was okay he began swinging at the officer with a double-edged knife. >> in case it happened so quickly the officer reacted with the weapons that he had in his hands and those were his hands. >> reporter: taking down the man but getting stabbed in the process. >> unfortunately suffered a stab

wound to his left leg. another stab wound to his hand. and some other cuts. but he's doing quite well. >> reporter: hospital officials say he's in good condition. >> the first thing he said to me at the scene when i asked him how he was doing was "well, i've had better days." >> reporter: deputy chief schmidt says the suspect, a man in his 40s, has injuries to his hands and is being medically evaluated in san mateo county. the officer has 23 years of experience and has worked at the ingleside, bayview and tenderloin stations. he started working at the airport in september of 2003. >> i'm just thankful that he was there and he did everything just textbook. >> reporter: she also says the fbi was notified and said there was absolutely no link to terrorism. in san francisco melanie woodrow, abc 7 news. a pregnant woman is one of eight people hurt after a truck crashed off a north bay highway and careened into an in-n-out burger parking lot. the driver was heading north on highway 101 in mill valley this afternoon when he just lost control.

he crashed through a fence, clipped another truck, then hit a van with six people inside. two people were critically injured. officers say it's a good thing the truck didn't crash an hour later. >> this is a school unloading zone. literally right where he drove through is where these school buses drop off students. so had this been an hour later this could have been much, much worse. >> horrifying really. could have crashed into a whole bunch of kids. officers believe the driver suffered some kind of medical emergency because there are no skid marks which would show an attempt to slow down and control the truck. new at 11:00, a member of california task force 3 out of menlo park continues to help others. carl custin just ended his third week in puerto rico where he is assisting in the aftermath of hurricane maria. he was first deployed to the island as part of a fema incident support team for hurricane irma that smashed into florida. he was scheduled to come home, but then maria started gaining strength. custin will remain until reinforcements arrive. he is there to help and wants to

for free speech. >> reporter: a long day. i put this wireless mike on joey gibson and followed him every sten of the way. the real estate investor from oregon and founder of patriot prayer met a handful of supporters at a berkeley motel to plot strategy for the day. >> so we'll keep coming in here until the locals here, the politicians, the citizens get rid of this problem that they have with antifa. >> reporter: just one month ago masked antifa members attacked gibson in berkeley. but today was different. he walked freely onto the cal campus, where officers and demonstrators got shouted down by a few protester pz. >> you hate me but you don't know me. >> retreated to the empathy tent for a brief conversation. >> i don't care about the color of your skin. i care about what's on the inside. i am a christian. >> reporter: a few minor skirmishes. gibson's big accomplishment today, no patriot prayer supporters arrested. and among four booked, ivan furlarca, a leader of the left-wing group by any means necessary. the crowd grew as gibson made his way to people's park and

>> that's clay. that's clay to me. it doesn't even surprise me that that happened. >> reporte >> the young boy was not hurt. what a great guy. quick action. all right. meteorologist sandhya patel is here with more on the heat. next couple of days pretty intense. >> not what we're used to, that's for sure. it's going to be yaerm than average by a good 10 to 20 degrees. i want to show you a sunset from our sutro tower camera tonight at 7:00. notice the reddish hues there. that's a cable from sutro tower. you will notice how glorious the sunset was but that was due to the haze and the air quality will continue to suffer tomorrow. spare the air alert issued for tomorrow. inland east bay. moderate air quality for the rest of the bay area. i want to show you the temperature trend tomorrow morning. santa rosa you're going to start out at 54 degrees. so pretty good cooling. but notice as we head toward 3:00 p.m. you're up to 94 degrees. a good 40 degrees warmer. quick warming tomorrow afternoon.

it is going to be uncomfortable for some of you especially since many of you do not have the ac here in san francisco on the peninsula in the south bay so hang in there. here's a look at live doppler 7 right now and skies are absolutely clear out there. i can't even find any fog. and we're not expecting any until thursday at the soonest. it was a warm day from pretty much the beaches all the way across the bay into the inland valleys. look at these temperatures. 96 degrees in santa rosa today. got up to 91 in san jose. also in oakland. 'll 7 san francisco, 81 half moon bay. obviously the records are pretty high for this time of year. so we did not reach record levels. still hanging on to some of the warmth from earlier in the day. we have some low to upper 70s in our inland valleys but seeing some nice cooling right near the coastline here. live look from our emeryville camera. it's a spectacular view as we look toward the bay bridge there. autumn warmth again tomorrow. we're looking at high fire danger, spare the air alert is up for tomorrow and a much cooler pattern begins on friday.

speaking of cooler, tomorrow morning it'll actually start out quite comfortable. temperatures in the 50s, 60s, mild to start off your day, and then warm to top it off in the afternoon. in the south bay los gatos 90 degrees, 92 san jose. morgan hill. on the peninsula you're looking at 88 in san mateo, 90 in redwood city. 80 degrees downtown san francisco. well above where you should be for this time of year. 88 daly city. 78 north bay. similar read togz today, low 90s from san rafael to novato, santa rosa and napa in the east bay you'll need plenty of water and also your sunscreen. 90 degrees in oakland, fremont. head inland and at least you have the ac to keep you comfortable in this warm weather. temperatures in the low 90s from concord to livermore. i do want to show you hour by hour that system that i teased earlier in the broadcast, that system is actually one computer model wants to bring in the potential for some showers at least into northern california sunday night. possibly a little further south certainly in the sierra nevada.

we'll keep an eye on it because the other computer model is not in agreement. you can download the accuweather app and check out temperatures hour by hour minute by minute. it's going to be a warm to hot wednesday upper 70s to mid 90s. cooling begins on thursday. and that'll be mostly felt at the coast with the fog rolling in. sea breeze and fog combine to knock those temperatures down. friday it's going to feel a lot better. low 60s to mid 80s, and we'll hold you close to that as we head into the weekend, dan. >> very good. we're already thinking about the weekend. >> we are. it's only tuesday. >> thanks, sandhya. well, twitter is testing doubling its character limit and the response has been kind of wordy.
