i am not happy about this heat. >> i love it, too. it's nice. >> she's making it work. it's only you complaining and a few of you on twitter. drew, whether you like it or not, it's here. >> it's polarizing. got the heat today and we'll begin to cool off. we do have high fire danger once again today. the north bay hills the highest threat, this is from 11:00 a.m. really until 5:00 p.m. because this is the time period when the humidity is the lowest. and winds are breezy. fires can easily start and spread.

same weather pattern, it's warm in the afternoon with widespread 80s and 90s. off to a quiet start today. live at the bay bridge toll plaza. no metering lights yet. i did have a stackup on the left side, cash lanes there for a few minutes. looks like a few more open at this point, though. no delays into san francisco. 54 minutes in the yellow. highway 85 to the san jose airport, in the green at 12. highway 1 you look great at just nine minutes. next traffic update around 5:10. and that breaking news this time in crockett. a truck caught fire and the flames spread to a nearby hillside but luckily firefighters got there very quickly. they ex twinge wished the flames

and especially with concerns. we have that above average temperature forecast here in the bay area. this fire happened around 2:00 in crockett. and in the video video you can see flames were pretty big. about a dozen firefighters or so responded. firefighters watching for hot spots after flames burned dangerously close to dozens of homes. sky 7 was over the 20 acre alarm fire after it started just after noon yesterday. about 100 homeowners were told to get out. fortunately firefighters were able to control the flames from the air and the ground. the fire is 60% contained and the cause is under investigation. officials plan to brief on any updates. you can get the latest information by downloading the abc 7 news app.

the leader of the conservative group patriot prayer says he's returning again. abc 7 news followed joey gibson when he paid the school a visit yesterday, one month after violent protests, and he says he was attacked by those protesters. yesterday gibson met with supporters at a berkeley motel and then they marched on to the cal campus. >> we will keep coming in here until the locals here, the politicians, the citizens get rid of this problem that they have with antifa. >> no patriot prayer supporters were arrested. among three people facing charges, a leader of the left-wing group by any means necessary. uc berkeley face as civil rights complaint. leaders of the berkeley patriot, the group that canceled free speech week claimed the administration suppressed their first amendment rights. 5:03. if you're waiting for prices to drop, a just released report says don't hold your breath.

>> you're not going to believe how many years ucla says it will take for housing prices to roll back. matt keller breaking it down for us. good morning, matt. >> reporter: good morning, reggie and natasha. thousands and thousands of apartment units. they have homes here and town homes as well. just off highways 85 and 101 in south san jose. it will take a lot more buildings going up before housing prices can go down. that's according to the latest forecast. our media partner the bay area news group took a look at the housing data. researchers found a 20% increase in the current level of home building is needed to achieve even a modest 10% drop in prices. prices. they would need about

77,000 units and san mateo county would need to increase by more than 54,000 units. all of this would take from 14 years to 36 years to complete at the current pace. more supply, the lower the price. some leaders are saying start building now. matt keller, abc 7 news. >> developing news this morning on a push for affordable child care. a universal child care program. they plan to draft a ballot measure next year. san francisco has a preschool program which subsidizes the preschool. they say that program falls short of the needs in the city. a truck sped into a north bay parking lot. no word on how the pregnant woman is doing this morning. the truck driver heading north in mill valley lost control yesterday afternoon and sped into an in-n-out parking lot. he hit a minivan with six people inside.

officers say they're lucky more officers say they're lucky more people were not hurt. >> an hour late they are could have been much, much worse. >> officers believe the driver suffered a medical emergency and chp is investigating. >> a san francisco police officer is recovering from a knife attack at sfo. investigators say even after being hurt, the officer took a knife-wielding man down with his barehands. this happened inside terminal one near a baggage claim yesterday. the officer responding to a report of a man acting suspiciously when the officer asked if everything was okay that's where the man came swinging at the officer with a double-edged knife. the officer took down the man but was stabbed in the process. >> the officer suffered a stab wound to his left leg. another stab wound to his hand and some other cuts, but he's

doing quite well. >> this morning the officer is out of the hospital. investigators have identified the suspect as a johnston. the 64-year-old was booked in jail on charges of attempted murder of a peace officer and threats to commit violence. drivers on the bay bridge won't have donald trump's face to look at anymore. the impeach trump billboard has been removed. the company that owns and managing the space said it decided to pull the sign after receiving multiple complaints. courage campaign, the grassroots progressive campaign that paid for the ad, is accusing out front of doing trump's dirty work. the ad was meant to run through sunday. hundreds of layoffs t cisco. cisco disclosed in a filing to government officials it's permanently cutting 310 jobs. most of them are engineering software and other tech positions. the san jose based company is breaking its lease at an office complex in milpitas but it still plans to be an active member of the community.

we're back at 5:14. conditions in puerto rico are growing more dire by the hour. this drone video shows you the devastation caused by hurricane maria. it has been a week since the storm hit. people are desperate for safe drinking water and other basic supplies. the president is answering questions about the administration's response. administration's response. here's abc news reporter zach. >> reporter: he doesn't want to complicate the relief efforts under way. president trump is answering questions about his response to the disaster in puerto rico. >> is puerto rico getting all the help it needs from you, mr. president? >> puerto rico is very important to me and the people are

it's not only the warmth, it's the low humidity and the breeze will have this afternoon that will have high fire danger, the highest threat will be between 11:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. later on this afternoon when the humidity levels are at their lowest and the winds are most active. that means fires can easily start and easily spread under these conditions. the accuweather seven-day forecast is warm to hot today. cooling begins on the coast thursday. and then it's widespread by friday looking good for the weekend. weather and traffic with alexis. good morning, drew. we're looking good in the traffic department as well. just before you get to military west on eastbound 780 we have some calls in to chp about a fire in the area and, boy, we've been hearing about drew talk about the fire danger yesterday, today, and tomorrow as well, just those dry conditions, breezy. hopefully that does not spread but they do have some emergency crews on the way to the scene. a quick check outside, walnut

creek. southbound 680 starting to fill in. some brake lights there. a check of drive times. the bridge is looking great. richmond/san rafael just seven minutes. dumbarton bridge wide open at nine. new developments in quebec -- that's not right. uber is ending operations in quebec, the canadian province doesn't rescind new rules introduced last week. the new rules require uber drivers to get background checks performed by police rather than private security firms. and drivers will be required to undergo 35 hours of traditional taxi driving training instead of 20 hours. if the government doesn't back down, uber is going to call it quits october 14th. new this morning on the other side lyft and ford are teaming up now. according to fortune.com, they plan to develop south driving cars on growing network of passengers. we're having camera issues right now. let me tell you about this, ford wants to use lyft's data and its

the small outbuilding caught fire first. about $40,000 to the property and $5,000 in belongings. the hills have threatened homes is now out. >> homeowners still on alert today with a red flag warning that drew was just talking to us about signaling high fire danger. amy hollyfield is live in oakland. >> reporter: the fire is officially out but they are worried about today's forecast. red flag warning could give them some problems. you'll notice there are still firefighters out here on the scene keeping a watch over the situation. this fire broke out 12:15 and by 1:00 firefighters had a tanker in the air dropping retardant on the fire and they say that made a huge difference in this fight

because getting to the fire on foot was quite a challenge in these hills. some residents took cell phone video and it shows how close the fire came to homes. officials say 30 homes were threatened but they evacuated 100. none was damaged, though, and the evacuation order was lifted by 6:00 last night and no one was hurt. one resident described the emotions of this experience. >> insane. at first you think there's a fire and you don't know what will happen. when you realize they have it contained, you sort of back off on the terror and everything is okay. >> reporter: here is the view of the 20-acre fire in the oakland hills between sky view and campus drive near the former quarry. there is a lot of construction in the area. new homes are being built. they do plan to hold a briefing for reporters at 8:30 this morning. stay with us as the story

council decided to make no changes to the curfew. instead they voted in favor of reaching out to neighbors who live near the stadium. the debate got heated. >> one concert can pay for, i don't know, three, four, five police officers, new officers. the same for firefighters. >> maybe it won't have that much impact if we did an ed sheeran concert on the weekend. >> levi's has previously asked for a one-hour extension a few times a year. the council denied the request. u2 and beyonce broke the curfew this year. recreational marijuana becomes legal in california january 1st. this morning it's not clear if san francisco will allow businesses to start selling cannabis on that date. the city won't issue permits to sell recreational marijuana until it passes new laws to regulate the industry. and that may not happen in time for the deadline. the city wants to create what it calls an equity program to make sure low-income individuals and people of color are eligible for

permits. palo alto superintendent is resigning. our media partner "the mercury news" announces glenn "max "mcgee will resign friday. mcgee was recently criticized after a union contract error during his tenure the district has faced a number of sexual assaults and harassment cases. happening today the two men charged in december's deadly ghost ship fire in oakland are expected to plead not guilty. derick almena and max harris face 36 counts of i will voluntary manslaughter. a judge refused to throw out charges against the two men. their attorneys accuse prosecutors of having a weak case. marin's most iconic structures is getting a face-lift or a roof lift. sky 7 was over the blue life on the civic center right near where i grew up. an $18 million contract was awarded to a novato based company to replace the roof. architect frank lloyd wright designed the structure. the problem, though, it's now leaking pretty badly.

the 220,000 square foot roof will get a fresh coat of marin blue paint. demolition is under way at moraga's bridge. it was closed after engineers noticed the land below its pill pillars slipping. planners say a temporary one-lane bridge will go up. it should be open by mid-november at a cost of $2 million. oakland mayor libby schaaf is pushing an innovative plan to move the homeless off sidewalks and into safety. schaaf is urging the city council to approve what she's calling an outdoor navigation center that would help move about 40 people from encampments into temporary shelter. the site would feature portable living structures similar to sheds and access to social services. good morning. time now 5:36 on this wednesday

morning. another warm to hot afternoon very similar to what we experienced yesterday. live doppler 7, we have clear skies from the coast to the bay and inland. and it is a mild morning. good morning, oakland. we're at 57 degrees. san jose, hayward, san francisco, we're sitting at a temperature of 64 degrees. and with those clear skies warming will happen very quickly. future tracker temperatures, the hour-by-hour forecast midday already. the lunch time hour, widespread 70s and 80s already on the board and later on this afternoon we are expecting widespread 80s and 90s. some 10 to 20 degrees above normal this time of year. not only the heat we're worried about, it's also the dry conditions. relative humidity later on this afternoon very dry in the north bay and east bay hills. it's for that fact, the combination of the warm air, the low humidity, and the breezy winds are red flag warnings until 5:00 later on today. look at your highs today. 88 in san francisco.

almost 20 degrees above normal. 90 oakland. 92 san jose. 93 that high in fairfield. that's weather. let's check on the roads with alexis. >> good morning, drew. speaking of the high fire danger we do have reports after fire just off 780 so it's on the eastbound side of the road before you get to military west. chp is on the scene. i'm guessing we probably have some fire units on the scene there as well but some drivers called in and said, hey, we have a couple post that is are on fire so that could have been a brush fire possibly sparked by a vehicle. we're not sure yet. a quick check outside. here's the richmond side of the bridge. nice, light volume on westbound 580. and then drive times overall looking okay. of course there's always an exception. 580 tracy to dublin in the red at 56 minutes. about 25 minutes westbound 4 antioch to concord. southbound 101 san rafael to san francisco looking great in the green at 16 minutes. there have been a lot of fires this morning. breaking news in san francisco. we have just learned about two

happening today president trump and republicans in congress will unveil and start pushing their new tax plan, it will likely slash the rate to 35% for the most wealthy americans, reducing the corporate tax rate and collapse the personal income brackets into just three. overall they want to cut taxes by $5 trillion over ten years and make up for those losses by eliminating tax breaks. they're not specifying what those tax breaks will be.

>> an outspoken conservative suspended twice has won the republican primary for the senate seat left open by jeff sessions. roy moore had the support of president trumpet . the president deleted his tweet supporting strange and this morning he's congratulating moore on the win. mr. trump tweet this had message, spoke to roy moore of alabama last night for the first time. sounds like a really great guy who ran a fantastic race. >> work is under way on prototypes of the proposed border wall with mexico. eight models are going up in a remote part of san diego. this is video provided by the department of homeland security. the mock-up should be ready in about a month. officials say think may pick several winners or none at all. police set up a free speech zone near the construction site for people to demonstrate. we know more about united's plan to compensate passengers on overbooked flights who give up

we do expect gusts well over 25 miles per hour and along with those breezy conditions look at your humidity dropping to just bone-dry levels. relative humidity showing you around napa and even fairfield and east bay hills relative phumidity dropping. this combination of low humidity and an active breeze means we have high fire danger once again and the key time for that highest threat 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. when the humidity is low and winds are active and that means fires can easily start and easily spread under those conditions. we've seen it yesterday in the oakland hills. accuweather seven-day forecast, warm to hot today. spare the air day. poor air quality inland. cooling begins first thursday along the coast. and then everyone widespread on friday. we'll see about a 10 to 15 degree drop in our temperatures from today. the weekend looking nice. more fall like and the pattern looks to stay roughly cool over the next week. that's good news.
