one in the bay area. good morning to you. it is 5:59 coming up on 6:00 here, september 27th. >> yeah, glad you're here f. you're like jess and i, you love the warm temperatures and we're enjoying it while it lasts. >> you have ac. >> there you go. it's polarizing, this weather. the one thing we want to keep an eye on is the high fire danger once again today. the conditions are ripe. we have gusty winds in the afternoon. we're going to have very low humidity so a dry air. and that means any fire can easily start and spread. so red flag warning continues to be in effect for the areas shaded in red. look at your 12-hour planner nothing but sunshine once that sun is up. we are 10 to 20 degrees below normal. that's weather. >> good morning, drew. we have one new crash in for the north bay. it sounds like this is involving a motorcycle on southbound 101 just before you get to state route 116. lakeville highway. we do have that hov lane in the

far left lane currently blocked and some delays as you get through the petaluma area. bay bridge toll plaza, no issues there between the toll booths but the metering lights have been on since 5:22 this morning. we have another problem on 880 near state route 92. and we just got word within the past hour of a fire in the oakland hills is now out. it had threatened homes after breaking out just past noon yesterday. firefighters launched a heavy assault. it was mainly by air because the hills made it tough to get to. in the end no damage or injuries. there is a lot of construction in that area. new homes are being built. firefighters don't know the cause of the fire which is great news that fire is out this morning. i want to bring in drew tuma so we can talk more about this. there is a red flag warning in effect right now.

what does that mean, and who exactly is affected? who should care? >> everybody should care. that's the ground rule today. the entire region is ripe for fire conditions. we have gusty winds later on this afternoon and very dry air. so the combination of the two means any fire can start and spread quickly. you look at the winds in our hills, about 5 to 15 miles per hour. they're going to pick up later on this afternoon gusting over 25 miles per hour. looking at relative humidity right now it is going to turn bone-dry later this afternoon. this is 2:00 later on wednesday, this afternoon. look at fairfield. 19% relative humidity. the same thing in napa and that is bone-dry for this time of year. here is your highest threat, the thing you should worry about right now is the timing, 11:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. is when the humidity is at its lowest and the winds are most active and that means here fires can easily start and easily spread. we won't get relief until

friday. everyone needs to be really active. if they see something, call it in immediately. >> okay. be mindful. natasha, back to you. >> thanks, guys. a truck caught on fire and the flames did spread to a hillside overnight. this just happened after 2:00 this morning at crockett in crockett. luckily firefighters got there quickly and got out the flames before the brush fire got out of control. as drew was talking about, it is important that they work quickly because of today's forecast. happening today the leader of the conservative group patriot prayer says he is going to return to uc berkeley. abc 7 fuse followed joey gibson when he paid the school a visit yesterday one month after antifa members attacked him at a protest. gibson met with supporters at a berkeley hotel. then they marched onto cal's campus. >> we will keep coming in here until the locals here, the politicians, the citizens, get rid of this problem they have with antifa. >> no patriot prayer supporters were arrested.

among three people facing charges a leader of the left-wing group by any means necessary. this morning uc berkeley face as civil rights complaint according to "the daily californian." the group that organized and canceled free speech week claims the administration suppressed their first amendment rights. new this morning if you're waiting for bay area housing prices to drop, don't hold your breath. >> you would not believe how long you'll have to wait before housing prices start to roll back. matt keller is breaking it down for us this morning. matt? >> reporter: good morning, reggie and natasha. i talked to the mayor and he told me there's no more land so they're building up. that's what they're doing here in south san jose. it's a small drop in the bucket for what they really need to build here. now according to the latest ucla anderson forecast, our media

partner, the bay area news group, took a look at housing data from that forecast and researchers found a 20% increae in the current level of home building is needed to achieve a modest drop in prices. that means santa clara county would need about 129,000 to reach that number, the east bay would need to build around 199,000 new homes, san francisco would increase housing supply by almost 77,000 units and san mateo county would need to increase by more than 54,000 units. all inform would take from 14 years to 36 years to complete at the current pace. $4 billion housing bond measure will be on the ballot. even if voters approve it that will be just a small drop in the bucket. you won't see much change in the short term. reporting live, matt keller, abc 7 news. new details involving that knife attack on sfo. a san francisco police officer got hurt. this happened inside terminal one right near a baggage claim yesterday afternoon. police say the officer is now out of the hospital.

he's recovering from injuries to his hands, neck, face and leg. the suspect has been identified as johnson, a 64-year-old booked into the san mateo county jail on charges of attempted murder of a peace officer and threats to commit violence. investigators say the officer was responding to a report of a man acting suspiciously when the officer got attacked. drivers on the bay bridge won't have donald trump's face to look at anymore. the billboard is gone. the company that owns and manages the space says it decided to pull the sign after receiving multiple complaints. the grassroots progressive organization that paid for the ad is now accusing out front of, quote, doing trump's dirty work. hundreds of layoffs are coming to cisco systems according to our media partner "the mercury news." it disclosed in a filing it is permanently cutting 310 jobs. most of them are engineering, software, and other technical positions. the san jose based company is

breaking its lease at an office complex in milpitas but it still plans to be an active member of the community. cisco occupies several office buildings in the area. a pregnant woman and seven other people were critically hurt after an out-of-control truck sped into a north bay parking lot. no word on how the pregnant woman is doing this morning. authorities say a truck driver heading north in mill valley lost control yesterday afternoon and sped into an in-n-out parking lot, hit a minivan with six people inside. our media partner reports a canadian family in town for a wedding was renting the minivan. officers say they're lucky more people were not hurt. >> this is a school unloading zone literally right where he drove through is where they drop off students. had this been an hour later, this could have been much, much worse. >> officers believe the driver suffered a medical emergency. chp is investigating. how does universal affordable child care sound? the steps one leader is taking

hour and it's going to be another warm to hot day across the region no matter where you are, even mild in the low 80s, a high of 88 in san francisco. up to 90 in oakland. 92 in san jose. a high of 94 in santa rosa. that fire danger is running high once again meanin any fires can easily start and spread under these conditions. also spare the air days in effect. air quality especially inland today will be on the poor side. that's weather. let's get a check of the roads and alexis. overall it's been a quiet start to our wednesday morning commute. i do have a couple issues to talk about. southbound 101 in petaluma right around 116, lakeville highway. we have a crash involving a harley motorcycle and a work truck that was blocking the far left lane. they're trying to get that contained so you could have one lane down. we're seeing stop and go traffic through that stretch. near state route 92 another collision there and they have been able to push that off to

it is 6:14. conditions in puerto rico are growing more dire by the hour. the mayor of san juan says it's gasping for air following the devastation caused by hurricane maria. it's been a week since that storm hit. 95% of the island still doesn't have power. people are desperate for saving drinking water and other basic supplies. the trump administration is sending a flotilla of ships to aid in the recovery efforts. president trump will travel to the u.s. territory next week. >> the transbay transit center downtown in san francisco may cost an additional $200 million. according to "the examiner" the ex ekt tiff director says machines may be used to excavate down to the tunnel. it would be more costly than the previous plan. it called for using construction technique called cut and cover that could hurt merchants along the route. big fast food chain dealing with a security breach in 45

states. sonic drive-in is investigating a hack that impacted 3,600 of its locations. it is not clear how many credit and didn't card numbers were stolen or which stores were affected. the security company confirmed the breach with the oklahoma last week. several financial institutions noticed fraudulent transactions on cards used at sonic. and new this morning the president once again tweeting about that nfl controversy. look at this. he says, quote, spoke to jerry jones of the dallas cowboys yesterday. jerry is a winner who knows how to get things done. players will stand for country. jerry jones owns the cowboys. just before the team's "monday night football" game this week the cowboys took a knee with jerry jones before they lock arms for the anthem, so a reversal. >> and now, jessica, the green bay packers are asking their fans to link arms during the

national anthem at lambeau field tomorrow night. quarterback aaron rodgers and the packers are facing the bears on "thursday night football." most of the packers linked arms on the sidelines for sunday's game against the bengals. three players, as you can see, sat down. packers players said the linking of arms will be a coming together of people who want, quote, freedom, equality, tolerance, understanding, and justice for those who have been unjustly treated, discriminated against, or otherwise treated unfairly. a push for affordable child care. two san francisco supervisors are looking into the cost of a universal child care program. they say they plan to draft a ballot measure next year. san francisco has a preschool for all program which subsidizes preschool for a limited number of kids. they say that program falls short of the need in the city. lyft and ford are teaming up. according to fortune.com they plan to develop and test self-driving vehicles on the growing network of passengers.

ford also wants to use lyft's data and its own to determine which cities will be worth launching a self-driving vehicle service and what kind of infrastructure would be needed to properly service and maintain a fleet of self-driving vehicles. from vacuums to cars apparently so, dyson plans to launch an electric car by 2020. the company's founder james dyson made the announcement in an e-mail to employees. the british company is investing nearly $2.5 billion and hundreds of employees in the project. it's not exactly a new idea. the company first starte working on this back in 1990. it had a prototype in 1993 so a long time coming. i know you have feelings about this, reginald. another dunkin' donuts is opening in the bay area, the location in fremont kicked off its opening. >> according to "the mercury news" their new fall menu items include a maple sugar bacon

breakfast sandwich. maple pecan flavored and pumpkin flavored coffee beverages. and then, of course, pumpkin doughnuts and muffins. dunkin' donuts re-emergence in the bay area started in june of 2016 with the walnut creek store. people lost their minds about that. then they went to half moon bay and more minds lost. american canyon and south san francisco. so it's definitely growing again. so if you like a doughnut that tastes like a doughnut, go for it. >> what is wrong with that, reggie? >> i just don't understand why people go so gaga-googoo. >> it's not the doughnut, it's the coffee. >> the coffee is so tasty. i can never sell him on it. never. moving on to accuweather we want to highlight the fire danger running very high once again today. we can't stress this enough that conditions are just perfect for any fire to start and spread easily. so a red flag warning is in effect for the north bay hills and the east bay hills.

right now we are keeping an eye on the oakland hills, crews working overnight and into the morning on a fire that forced evacuations. we have a live update. officials are hitting a major roadblock that could delay the opening of recreational the opening of recreational marijuana dispensaries.

quickly since it was not blocking for very long. a spare the air day and a look at mass transit in less than ten. firefighters in san francisco went to work putting out a fire burning at a business and out building. in the city's india basin neighborhood. the small building caught fire first. firefighters estimate that damage is about $40,000 for the property and then about $5,000 for the belongings. >> it's not clear if it's a coincidence or is related. sorry, we're having video issues. another car fire was at hudson court about a mile away. all of that still under investigation. stop what you're doing and look at this photo. it was posted overnight by

oakland police and it shows an incredible moment right here, a first responder helping out an evacuee as a fire burned in the oakland hills. they helped keep the fire from spreading to those homes. amy hollyfield is live with great news this hour. hi, amy. >> reporter: hi, good morning, jessica. the fire is out. firefighters just making that declaration this morning. you can see they are still here. this truck is stationed here on sky view drive. they're worried about today's weather, that it's hot and could cause them problems. they are nearby just in case. they got the call about this fire about 12:15 yesterday afternoon burning in the observing hills between sky view and campus drive. near the former leona quarry. the fire was so close to homes they evacuated 100 of them. no homes were damaged and no one was hurt. >> they were great once they got here they just jumped into

businesses to start selling cannabis on that date. the city won't issue permits to sell recreational marijuana until it passes new law to regulate the industry and that may not happen by january 1st. the city also wants to create what it calls an equity program to make sure low-income individuals and people of color are eligible for permits. >> palo alto school superintendent is resigning. our media partner "the mercury news" reports glenn max mcgee will call it quits on friday. the announcement follows a closed door meeting earlier this month to re-evaluate his performance. he was criticized after a union contract error. the district has faced a number of sexual assault and harassment cases. happening today the two men charged in oakland's deadly ghost ship fire are expected to plead not guilty. derick almena and max harris face 36 counts of involuntary manslaughter for december's inferno. two weeks ago a judge refused to throw out charges against the two men. their attorneys accuse the

prosecutors of having a weak case. the fight to extend the 10:00 p.m. curfew on levi's stadium. for now it is staying. cold play is days away from a concert. reps from the 49ers wanted the curfew extended by an hour. the request came after ed sheeran canceled his concert. the santa clara city council decided to make no changes to the curfew and instead voted in favor of reaching out to neighbor who is live near the stadium. the debate was heated. >> one concert can pay for, i don't know, three, four, five police officers, new officers. the same for firefighters. >> maybe it won't have that much impact if we did an ed sheeran concert on the weekend. >> levi's had previously asked for an one-hour extension a few years but the council denied that request. u2 and beyonce broke the curfew. the trump administration is sending a flotilla was ships to aid in the devastation caused by

republican primary. roy moore defeated incumbent senator luther strange who had the support of president trump. overnight the president deleted his tweet supporting strange and then this morning is congratulating moore on the win. mr. trump tweeted out this message, quote, spoke to roy moore of alabama last night for the first time. sounds like a really great guy who ran a fantastic race. he will help to make america great again. happening today president trump and republicans in congress will unveil their tax plan. the plan will likely slash the tax rate for the wealthiest americans from 39.6% to 35%. they want to reduce the corporate tax rate and collapse the seven existing personal income brackets into just three. overall they want to cut taxes by $5 trillion and make up for the losses by eliminating some tax breaks. they're not specifying what exactly will be cut. and in accuweather this morning tracking a very warm afternoon on the way, very similar to the temperatures we
