just been towed away. it was on a flatbed. it has now left the scene. we could see westbound interstate 80 reopening any minute. now freeway has been shut down for the better part of eight hours. area's busiest freeways looked like a parking lot. interstate 80 shut down. commuters were stuck. >> we've been here since >> motorists took cover when a gun battle began between police and an armed suspect. >> i was in my car and i heard the gunshots and i stayed there. a bunch of gunshots. >> sky 7 was there. a man driving a black suv refusing to surrender. police say the suspect was wanted for a homicide in fairfield. authorities spotted his car morning solano county and a chase was on. the police and the chp assisted trying to get the driver to stop. a spike strip was placed in the

road. >> after we spiked the vehicle, it collided with the barrier. >> the car they were chasing started to lose. it had a flat tire so it was starting to lose the tires. >> that's when a negotiation began. police keeping their distance with guns drawn. >> able to reach in by phone. he eventually exited the vehicle and started shooting at officers. they returned fire. >> the suspect died later at a hospital. most commuters had no choice but to wait. >> i'm on my way to work in san francisco. i don't know exactly what's happening. >> the drivers were eventually turned around by the chp. >> back live. take a look at eastbound 880. it's open but very painful. police are not releasing the nail of the suspect at this time. they say the homicide he is suspected of committing happened

in december of 2015. just pan off as we see the first cars cars. we're being told to clear it. >> they're getting on now from the powell street on-ramp and more will be coming. all right. thank you. >> two buses collided in san francisco, snarling traffic at on of the busiest intersections. it happened at fulsome. the bus plowed into the sidewalk. it struck a passenger car and a mini van before it hit the bus.

this is one of our normal routes. we transport nearly 30,000 people across the bay bridge every single day. the driver lost consciousness. they are one of five people injured. they check with engineers to make sure nearby scaffolding was safe. both san francisco police and ac transit are investigating the crash. >> one person was injured and another killed at el cap tan. it was about three hours ago. this picture of the slide is from a rock climber on el capitan when it happened. the release point of the rock fall appears to be near the water fall route. a popular climbing route on the east buttress.

>> uber is facing lawsuits. in one suit, a woman claims she was repeatedly groped by a driver as they traveled down interstate 10 in los angeles. and in a second suit, a woman complains of the driver showing her nude pictures of women he said were prostitutes and then demanding sex from her. the suit says yooubl has a history of issues. you know there's a serious homeless problem on the streets of san francisco. tonight city leaders are grappling with a new twist on that issue. >> not everyone there is traveling. >> reporter: let me give you an update on the officer he was released from the hospital and is at home said to be in good

condition. as the numbers of travelers grow association do the numbers of homeless. >> luckily we had an officer there who intervened before anyone else was hurt. >> reporter: he thank ed them. the office here asked that his name not be used was taken to san francisco general hospital after being slashed and stabbed numerous times. with the help of other cops, tsa agents and a civilian, the officer was able to arrest 64-year-old doris johnston. sources say he was a transient hanging around the airport. as with the city, sfo has encountered a growing number of people. >> on average we see about a dozen homeless people per day at the airport that we're making contact with. >> reporter: many come on the last b.a.r.t. train. it is a safe warm place to spend the night. they say they're often greeted by officers at the platform.

san francisco is expected to be the first city in the country to report the use of antibiotics in raw meat products. the goal is to reduce the number of anne >> assume visor jeff sheehey introduced the right to know ordinance to change it. >> this is to let them know what they're buying. this is to get the big chains to change what they purchase. >> here's how it would work. raw meat suppliers must let large retailers know if antibiotics are used. those retailers must then notify san francisco's department of environment. the public could then print the list. it is about shifting the market. >> we start to inform consumers. >> 70% of antibiotics in this country are being used on lye stock? i had no idea.

>> at this committee hearing, assume visors were told of the misuse and overuse of antibiotics in animals which often lead to antibiotic resistant infections. >> the more antibiotics being used, the more emergents and spread of antibiotic resistance there will be. >> that's because antibiotics kill some of the animal's internal bacteria but not all of they will. those left become resistant. the city would only purchase antibiotic-free meat for schools and jails. it goes before the full board and the mayor. consumer groups are working to eliminate antibiotics in restaurant foods. >> a new report grades 25 fast food restaurants on whether they serve foods with antibiotics. michael finney is here. >> better thissee than last.

>> urging restaurants to stop serving meat with antibiotics. only two restaurants got best grades of 25 surveyed. chipotle and panera are making sure the beef and poultry are being raised without it. and others got terrible grades by not reducing it at all. however, last year 16 restaurants failed, among those improvements were kfc and subway. use of antibiotics can breed super bugs that are resistant to antibiotics. the more we eat, the more we don't respond to antibiotics. after years, the fda is enforcing a rule restaurants must post calories on their menus. it includes chains with 20 or more outlets, vending machines and grocery foods will need calorie labels. the fda documented the rule

and low 90s, novato, napa. take a look at the winds, yes, we had the offshore wind. it is beginning to switch direction and that will usher in cooler air. it will mean better air quality. so tomorrow, look for good air quality. south central bay. for the rest of you, mod at air quality. we will have fog along the coast. 50s, 60s, mild weather at noon time. and it is going to be breezy and cooler by 4:00 p.m. 60s and 70s. hour by hour we go. tomorrow morning, 5:00. you see the fog. by 8:00, it is pretty. filling in all the way down the coast. you'll have sunshine but a difference in those temperatures.
