morning investigators are trying to determine what sparked a house fire on the peninsula. started just after 10:30 last night on crompton road in the lower hills of redwood city. officials say flames were coming out of every single window when firefighters arrived at the scene. neighbors told crews that everybody was out of the house. it took firefighters about 1:10 to get the flames under control. nobody was hurt. it is 4:30. if you're just joining us a quick update on weather and traffic. we'll start with drew. good morning, guys. the big setup is that cooler air is finally moving into our region even right now we're running some five to six degrees cooler than this time yesterday. so current numbers, we're in the 50s to low 60s. the 50s are widespread this hour. good morning, novato. 58. that number in hayward, 59. good morning in san jose. 12-hour planner, the fog returning, coastal clouds today. some high clouds streaming in through the afternoon. widespread 70s and 80s later on

ambulance. >> the man died last night. the alameda county d.a.'s office and coroner. >> one person is in the hospital after that second rock slide on el capitan at yosemite. this happened late yesterday one day after a slab dropped killing a climber and his wife. the second was ten times worst than the first. one man was hurt after a rock crashed through the sun roof of his suv. park rangers say it's the same spot as wednesday's rock slide. it is making visitors nervous. >> el cap, not sure what just fell, but something did. something big. holy [ bleep ]. that was loud. >> there was just cracking, a bunch of noise, and smoke just started coming down like crazy. >> the park released these pictures showing the massive chunk left behind now. yosemite says the park is closing a road on the north side of the park.

>> a boy remains in critical condition after a hit-and-run crash earlier this week. richmond police believe this smart car was involved in the accident at macdonald avenue and 27th street on wednesday. officers suspect a 19-year-old woman who works in an auto repair shop borrowed the car without permission before hitting the boy. elster ito police spotted the car and the driver was arrested. the package centers on three bills. one will put a $4 billion affordable housing bond before voters. a second imposes a new $75 fee on real estate transaction documents, and the third aims to streamline regulation that is can slow down affordable housing construction. lawmakers say the package is the most significant housing policy to come out of sacramento in years. take a look at drone view 7. a view of what san francisco desperately needs more of -- housing. this is the mission bay neighborhood which is seeing development and still has room

to expand. now mayor lee is hoping to jump-start more new housing like that. he has set a goal to build 5,000 new units every year. 30% to 35% would be permanently affordable. to make it a reality mayor lee had to sign an executive order cutting the permit time line in half. >> i know that once i've given the proper directive and support the departments to make the right decisions to move the projects forward we can literally cut it in half all the delays. >> some residents are concerned more housing will cause just more traffic. the mayor admits a lot of the congestion we see is caused by construction projects. >> parents, students, and religious leaders are rallying in the south bay to save a school program that serves minority students. it is due to lose funding in two days. reporter katie marzullo has the story from san jose. he was broken and he had somewhere to go. >> reporter: with dozens of supporters gathered at the santa clara government building, parents and students told

stories of how imani village changed their lives. >> they help with the school, drama, family, homework. they also make sure we're on track. >> reporter: the program was started in santa clara county in 2014. it provides tutoring and emotional support for african-american and latino students who might be at risk. there are more than 400 students currently enrolled. >> we have a chance to make a difference and shift away their life is steering and let them know there's a better way. >> reporter: the program is about to lose funding because the contract expires. a statement from the county reads in part, the county is partnering with each of the participating school districts to ensure continuity of services for the children who were enrolled in the program. mcgill is one of those students. >> to be honest, it makes us stronger and never take anything for granted. >> reporter: families are asking the county to continue funding the program at least through the end of the school year. in san jose, katie marzullo, abc

7 news. heads up if you're planning to cross the bay bridge tomorrow. caltrans plans to implode more of the piers from the old bridge. they will stop traffic when that happens sometime between 9:30 and 11:30 a.m. i know that's a big spread. the exact time will depend on water conditions. this is the third of six scheduled implosions. when should it be over? sometime in mid-november. accuweather on this friday morning, it's finally going to start to feel like fall after days of very warm air, a cold front finally sweeping through and bringing us back to reality. that cold front not only brought us the fog to the coast late last night, some high clouds are streaming in from time to time. temperature wise widespread 50s this hour running some five to six degrees cooler right now. good morning vallejo at 57 degrees. we're at 55.

happening today the naval ship "comfort" will deploy to puerto rico to provide more help. >> it is a floating hospital with 500 medical personnel and support staff. it is carrying blood and medical supplies to the territory ravaged by hurricane maria. the trump administration says its relief efforts are succeeding. people on the island say help is scarce and disorganized. hundreds of people went to a free water distribution center filling up as many empty containers as they could get their hands on yesterday. more than 2,000 people lined up to try to board a royal caribbean ship to get off the island. it's been more than a week since maria hit and only 4% of puerto rico has power. local puerto ricans have formed a group called sf for pr holding a donation drive at jam town in oakland to support hurricane maria victims. to learn more about how to help go to abc7news.com. 4:42. the controversy is growing over expensive private charter planes for officials. health and human services

secretary tom price is facing multiple investigations into his use of chartered aircraft for government travel and now a fourth member of president trump's cabinet is being criticized. here's lana zak. >> reporter: president trump says he's not happy with reports his secretaries have used excess charter flights. he wants federal agencies to account for their travel since inauguration. this morning health and human services secretary tom price's job is on the line. after a string of health care reform defeats a new embarrassment to the white house -- excessive luxury flights at the expense of the american taxpayer. last night price tried to defend his 26 private charter flights on fox news. >> my respect for the taxpayer is as strong as it can be and always has been. there will be no private air charters at hhs going forward. >> reporter: taxpayers spent more than $400,000 on those
