another area of the south bay that's still looking good, we have no delays on that inbound side so no major delays so far today. one new issue reported on the nimitz in oakland. >> thank you. some north bay high school students will show up to a campus crawling with police officers. >> redwood high school is respond to go a threat for the second time this month. amy hollyfield is live in larksburg. good morning, >> reporter: hi, good morning. classes are going on as scheduled. here is what it looked like last week here. they faced a bomb threat so they evacuated all of the students to the football field. now they are dealing with a new threat. this one appeared on the bathroom wall. someone wrote there will be a school shooting today, friday. the principal sent a letter home to parents telling them police have been called and will be here on campus. he also told the parents this io

model how to handle stressful events saying our students will most certainly look to us as their example how to remain calm and navigate challenging circumstances. if police advise administrators at any point today to go ahead and cancel classes, they will alert parents in several ways. they'll send out texts, e-mails, put it on facebook and tweet it out. amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. thank you. 6:02. dangerous rock slides at yosemite national park are not keeping climbers away from the mountain and the sport they say they love. there have been two rock slides in as many days. the most recent one took place late yesterday and climbers say the rock fall was the size of a couple of apartment buildings. one person was hurt and hospitalized. a spokesperson says it is rare but rocks break loose about 80 times every year. one rock climber says he still plans to climb el capitan though

a friend died two years ago. >> he put his weight on the rope and it pulled through the system and he fell. >> i'm not going to leave san francisco because there might be an earthquake or stop climbing because there might be a rock fall. >> another massive rock slide wednesday killed a man from great britain. we're learning more about a homicide suspect killed by police in a standoff that stopped traffic for hours. state prison officials showed this of demilo hodge, convicted of stalking nearly 20 years ago. police tried to stop him in connection to a homicide that happened this summer. hodge then led them on a chase that ended here in emeryville. police say officers fired at hodge after he shot at them. a 17-year-old girl's father is talking about a chilling ordeal after a knife-wielding suspect broke into the house and threatened her. police say this is the 17-year-old intruder. we had to blur his face. they say he broke into the rohnert park home believing no one was home. the girl was there and called

her father after seeing the suspicious man trying to get into the house. her dad told her to go upstairs and lock herself in the bathroom. she did and called 911. a police dispatcher kept her on the line as the intruder got in the house. when he discovered the locked bathroom he kicked down the door and started threatening her with a large hunting knife. >> he put the knife to here and asked, did you call the police? at the beginning she said no. >> the intruder forced her to hang up and officers had already been sent to the house. they arrested him. the girl was not hurt. a uc berkeley student is suing a former employee and the board of regents for sexual harassment. the student filed a complaint anonymously according to dailycal.org. she said the psychologist made unwanted advances and solicitations during sessions for her adhd and anxiety. she is suing berkeley because she feels they did not take

appropriate action to ensure her health and safety. a former probation counselor is under arrest on suspicion of having sex with two teenaged boys while they were in jail. authorities took tricia caparra into custody, accused of sexually assaulting a 17 and 18-year-old inmates. in a statement the chief probation officer says the department is appalled adding, quote this employee violated the trust placed in our department and this will not be tolerated. >> this just in. we have learned president trump will travel to asia in november to address how to deal with north korea. he'll actually visit japan, south korea, chooina, vietnam a the philippines. this is video of him with japan's prime minister shinzo abe at the white house earlier this year. speaking of the white house i should say they issued a statement moments ago saying the

president's engagements will strengthen the international resolve to confront the north korean threat and to ensure the complete verifiable and irreversible denuclearization of the korean peninsula. a new week of nfl games started last night with a new show of unity. not a single player took a knee during the national anthem between the game between the bears and packers. the players, coaches, and some fans locked arms and stood silently at lambeau field. a firestorm after the firing of any player who kneels in protest. 49ers fans should expect some sort of protest. they haven't played since the comments last friday. this is the 49ers before their game thursday. our media partners at the mercury news report they are planning a team wide demonstration. of course former qb colin kaepernick started protesting social injustice while he was on the team 13 months ago. as for what the next step will be, seattle seahawks receiver

we do have one new issue in the east bay in oakland. a three-car crash just before you get to 66th avenue blocking the left and the hov lanes. two lanes down. emergency crews on the way including an ambulance. that's about all we know. i am start to ing to see a bit backup. that is wide open right now. a quick check of bay bridge toll plaza. a disabled vehicle reported. one of the left side cash lanes. i have not spotted it. drive times at 6:20. elon musk is getting serious about his plans of sending people to mars. the plan involves creating a base on the moon first. he admits this is optimistic but he is hoping to bring the first flights to mars by 2024. finding a way to pay for it, well, that is going to be the biggest challenge, a single flight could cost $10 billion.

dramatic rescue unfolded in southern california after that car flew off a cliff in glendora. three people had to be lifted up after the car was wedged partway down the cliff. one was a good samaritan who saw the crash and climbed down to help the two women in the car. everyone is expected to be okay. sky 7 was overhead when a high-speed chase in a stolen car turned into a carjacking here. we're happy to say this did all end peacefully but the video is intense. this all started in the city of alameda yesterday. the suspect originally stole a chevy equinox at a union 76 gas station. a dangerous chase started and we launched sky 7 to track it. the pursuit got to hayward and when the speck's car got wedged between a convertible and wall, suspect jumps into the convertible and appeared to tell the victim to keep driving. 90 seconds later police stopped the car and took the suspect

into custody. this morning a detroit-area mom has a big decision to make. a judge is ordering her to get her 9-year-old son vaccinated by next week or she'll go to jail. rebecca says when her son was born she and her now former husband agreed to space out his vaccines. she claims her ex was fine with the decision until last year when he changed his mind. he now wants to follow a regular schedule instead. that has her at the center of a legal battle. the court sided with him and orders her to continue vaccinations. >> it wasn't until they started grouping vaccines that i chose to no longer vaccinate. i would rather go to jail for standing up for what i believe in than vaccinating my child. >> so she says that he's not against vaccines, she believes it's and speaking of that u.s. health officials are urging everyone to get their flu shots.

this morning as well. just a heads-up for this weekend, warm springs station will be closed once again. that is for work on the silicon valley extension so there will be a free bus bridge taking you from warm springs to fremont station that could add 20 to 30 minutes to your trip. and developing news from the live desk, san jose police have been at the scene all night long of a deadly shooting in an upscale apartment complex there. abc 7 news reporter matt keller has the newest information. matt? >> reporter: good morning, jessica. police are still here doing their investigation and since i last spoke with you i talked with a resident and she told me there have been security issues here at this apartment complex. there was a jogger robbed at gunpoint and several car break-ins and now a homicide. check out this video that we took overnight. you can see all the police activity taking place. officers were seen escorting residents at the elon at river oaks apartments.

police were called around 8:40 for a person shot. the sergeant told me two men forced their way into an apartment and shot a man. that man was taken to the hospital where he died. investigators say they have not made any arrests or identified any suspects. police are hoping to have this scene cleared here within the hour. reporting live, matt keller, abc 7 news. investigators are trying to determine what sparked a house fire on the peninsula. it started just after 10:30 on crompton road in the lower hills of redwood city. officials say flames were coming out just about every window when firefighters got to the scene. neighbors told crews everybody managed to get out of the house okay. it took firefighters about 1:10 to get the flames under control and no one was hurt. sheriff's deputies want parents to keep an eye out for this man, a 39-year-old registered sex offender from sacramento county. phe was arrest this had week after someone found him in a girl's restroom at redwood adventist academy elementary school. he is out on bail now and authorities say he is a threat to public safety.

if you see hmm on any school grounds please call police. new details in the oakland police investigation into the death of a man tased by officers. police still at the scene at 41st avenue last night. more than eight hours after this happened. our media partner the bay area news group says officers were sent to the intersection about 2:30 in the afternoon for a traffic accident. a dispatcher told them a man ran from the scene and was trying to board an ac transit bus. moments later an officer called for an ambulance. the man died last night. oakland police homicide detectives, the alameda county d.a.'s office and coroner have launched separate investigations. 6:33. one person is in the hospital after a second rock slide on el capitan in yosemite. this happened late yesterday, one day after another slab dropped killing a british climber and hurting his wife. witnesses say the second rock wall was ten times worse than the first one. one man was hurt after a rock crashed through the sun roof of his suv as he was driving with his family. park rangers say this is the

same spot as wednesday's rock slide. it is making visitors nervous. el cap, i'm not sure what fell but something did. something big. holy [ bleep ]. that was loud. >> there's cracking, a bunch of noise and smoke started coming down like crazy. >> the park released these showing the massive chunk left behind. the park is closing a road on the north side of the park. a 3-year-old remains in critical condition after a hit-and-run crash earlier this week. richmond police believe this smart car was involved in a crash at macdonald avenue and 27th street on wednesday. officers suspect a 19-year-old worker at this auto repair shop borrowed that car without permission before hitting the boy. el cerrito police spotted the car yesterday and arrested the 19-year-old. a public funeral will be held for the chp officer killed in a crash on his way to work. james died in san

families are rallying to save a south bay school program that serves minority students. abc 7 news was in san jose where supporters, parents, and students gathered outside the santa clara government building. they told stories about how imani village changed their lives. the program started in 2014. it provides on campus tutoring and emotional support for primarily african-american and latino students who may be at risk. there are more than 400 students currently enrolled. >> we have the opportunity to really make a difference and to kind of shift the way their life is steering and let them know there's a better way. >> the program is about to lose funding because the contract for imani village expires tomorrow. the county issued a statement saying, quote, it is partnering with each of the participating school districts to ensure continuity of services for the children who were enrolled in the program. happening today governor brown will be in san francisco to sign more than a dozen housing bills. the package centers on three bills, one will put a $4 billion affordable housing bond before

voters next year a. second imposes a new $75 fee on real estate transaction documents. and the third aims to streamline regulation that is can slow down affordable housing construction. lawmakers say this package is the most significant housing policy to come out of sacramento in years. and speaking of that, here is a look at drone view 7. it is over a part of san francisco that is trying to fulfill some of the lack of housing. mission bay neighborhood seeing a lot of development and it has room to expand. now mayor lee is hoping to jump-start more new housing development. he set a goal to build 5,000 new units and 30% to 35% would be permanently affordable. to make that a reality he has to sign an executive order which cuts the permit time line in half. >> i know that once i've given the proper directive and support the departments to make the right decisions to move the projects forward we can literally cut it in half all the

afternoon our warmest spots only warming into the low 90s. so finally, yes, it is feeling more like autumn out there to finish off the week. 67 with some peeks of sunshine. that's actually three degrees below average for this time of the year. a high of 72 in oakland. lots of sunshine in the south bay, comfortable at 81 degrees. 82 the high in concord. napa a high of 79 degrees. fall coming back. it took us time. now we finish off the weekend. it will be picture perfect. >> i think we've earned the nice cool weather and a nice smooth commute. this week has been terrible. it's friday light so far. we're hoping we can hang on to that. in fact, i have some good news here in the east bay. southbound 880 a crash near 66 that was a three-car collision. we did have some injuries and ambulances called to the scene. so all lanes opened back up ten minutes ago and we do still have

residual delays but this will bounce back quickly. 12 miles an hour, 7 miles an hour approaching that scene. i bet if we check that that will look much better. the bay bridge toll plaza not looking terrible. we do still have reports of a disabled vehicle in one of the cash lanes. i've not been able to spot it. they have now cleared. the bay bridge commutes are not looking terrible today. westbound 80, highway 4 to the maze in yellow. about 13 the rest of the way across the bay bridge and southbound 101 san francisco to sfo. you are wide open in the green. it is that time again, yeah, the bay bridge will close to continue the implosion. that means it should shut down between 9:30 and 11:30 tomorrow morning. it should all be over by mid-november. i will keep you updated.

and only moments ago fema held a press conference in puerto rico addressing its response on the island after hurricane maria. this is video from moments ago. i was listening in with my headphones over here. this is the island's governor was there, too. fema admitted that they underestimated the power of this storm. they also say that aid is not coming to the island fast enough and there is more on the way. ports also now open 24 hours a day. another really big thing to note. u.s. military officials were at the press conference as well and they flat-out said the troop response hasn't been enough. something really important here about 100 tankers going to the island monday. >> jessica, thank you for the update. happening today the naval ship comfort will be deploying to puerto rico. the vessel is a float hospital with 500 medical personnel and support staff. comfort is carrying blood and

opportunity to discuss with your student the serious nature of statements that threaten harm to anyone. and how important it is for all of us to be vigilant, report anything unusual, and closely follow instructions of adults on campus. if police administrators at any point to cancel classes or to shut down school, they will let parents know a number of ways. they will send out texts, e-mails, put it on facebook or twitter. this morning health and human services secretary tom price's job is on the line. steve mnuchin and scott pruitt are the subject of inquiries by respective inspectors general. the house oversight committee launched an investigation into travel. price says he regrets his trip and pledges to reimburse the government.
