they should have this wrapped up. we should have had this road work picked up between monument but it is not clearly. we are down to two lanes on the southbound side and check out what it is doing to our drive time. we're looking at one hour and 12 minutes. it does open up and no further issues once you make it past the road work. 580 tracy to dublin in the yellow. we'll talk more about this construction up next. alexis, thank you. now to our coverage of the vegas mass shooting. the girlfriend of the killer is back in the u.s. and now speaking with the fbi. >> marilou danley arrived at l.a.x. overnight. las vegas police are calling her a person of interest hoping she can give them insight into stephen paddock's motive for the massacre. police released new body camera footage of the incident showing the confusion and panic as officers tried to determine where that gunfire was coming from. investigators say paddock fired

shots from the mandalay bay for 11 minutes killing 58 people in the crowd below. >> we now know three victims did have bay area ties. 32-year-old michelle vo is a san jose native living in southern california and working as an insurance agent. 57-year-old denise cohen grew up in san ramon but lived in santa barbara where she work as property manager. stacee etcheber was a mother of two, her husband a san francisco police officer. he ran to help victims and told stacee to run for safety. >> friends, relatives, total strangers even gathered at a vigilfor stacee in >> reporter: good morning, reggie. hundreds of people gathered to honor stacee etcheber and to support her family. her husband, officer vinnie etcheber, now without his wife, their 10-year-old son and 13-year-old daughter now without their mom. the crowd at san ramon school

offered words of comfort bringing light to a very dark hour for the family. stacee's brother-in-law believes she died trying to help others wounded in the crowd. people describe stacee as a role model parent with an amazing spirit. >> if stacee was here tonight we would hear her say, hey, toots, i've got you. hold on. >> reporter: vinnie etcheber was supported by nearly a dozen san francisco motorcycle officers. that's the unit he once rode with. the san francisco police department is vowing to support the etcheber family and the police officers association has set up a gofundme account in stacee's honor raising more than $100,000 so far. live in san francisco, tiffany wilson, abc 7 news. >> nice to see so many people come out for her. at the live desk waiting for president trump to take off for vegas a. look at air force one in maryland. this is the first time president trump has had to deal directly

with a tragic aftermath of deadly gun violence here in the u.s. the president plans to grieve with victims and thank first responders. our own jessica castro has been reporting from there since monday. >> both locals and tourists are trying to resume their lives as best they can following the tragedy. >> reporter: there are signs of slow but steady progress here. las vegas boulevard, the iconic strip, is finally back open in both directions. there's also this growing memorial as the city is just trying to put one foot in front of the other for now. slowly things are beginning to move forward in las vegas. these people just trying to get their cars so they can eventually get back to work and errands. >> i thought i was going to be able to come and pick up my car with my i.d., have it ready, but there's a line, so i don't even think i'm going to be able to go home today. >> i can't do nothing without my car. i have to sit and wait like everyone else. >> reporter: hundreds of cars were left at the concert venue

when people ran for their lives. we're also just starting to learn about the hundreds of people it took to respond in the hours after the mass shooting, folks like psychiatrist john warjo. >> we had our own specific roles. mine was to assess patients already in the hospital trying to figure out what beds we could free up to open up for the victims that came in for this event. >> reporter: he's a uc berkeley alum to now lives in las vegas. >> my work starts from here on out. and it's going to be mosh of a marathon. >> i'm thinking of the times i was running and hiding. >> reporter: survivors replay the events. >> sitting at the casino and somebody's slot went off and hearing that -- >> reporter: resident joanna shared a tight hug. they returned to the scene hoping to heal some of their emotional wounds. >> i'm still trying to process it all. >> and that was our jessica

castro reporting. two north bay couples helped save lives in las vegas. justin and jennifer mcgrath can be seen using fences as stretchers. the couple was with their friends. wahl is a trained emt. he and mcgraph gave people cpr. jennifer says it's hard to describe the chaos. >> i can't formulate or tell you or show emotion or anything that's going to explain how that night felt. >> she says they had been looking forward to the harvest festival, but they don't know if they'll ever go back. a heads up for those want to go donate blood. blood centers of the pacific is asking to schedule appointments for later this week or in the next few weeks since there is no immediate need. clinic officials say since blood has a 42-day shelf life it's important donations are begin on an ongoing basis.

california law make remembers calling for change in light of a mass shooting in vegas. they are urging congress to enact tougher gun legislation. california is home to some of the strongest gun control laws in the country and other states, they say, are lagging far behind. gun rights advocates argue passing more gun measures is in the the answer. >> the only crime this guy committed was that he illegally used his legal guns to kill people, so the gun laws are being enforced and that isn't stopping criminals. >> this is not about taking away people's guns. this is about keeping people safe. >> law make remembers pushing f -- lawmakers say more information on trends can help prevent any similar tragedies in

the future. hotels are now rethinking security in hopes of preventing future mass shootings. managers shared ideas. one possible change, front desk employees might ask more questions when you check in. other hotel workers like housekeepers may receive extra training when it comes to being aware of guests and what's inside their rooms and encouraged to alert management if they feel suspicious about any items. nearly 20 registered nurses from the bay area are joining the aid effort in puerto rico. they left sfo on their way to san juan and they're with a group registered nurses response network. they have skills working in trauma and intensive care units. the organization has more than a decade's worth of experience and disaster aid joining a larger group in san juan made up of volunteers from around the u.s. today's "gma first look" investigators say new evidence in a hazing death at lsu

indicates pledges were forced to drink alcohol. >> reporter: this morning's "gma first look." police say tex messages are at the center of the investigation of the alleged hazing death of 18-year-old pledge max groover dying just a month into his freshman year. newly released search warrants show he and other messages received a group text telling them to attend bible study at the frat house. police say that was code for a question and answer session. wrong answers meant more alcohol. according to several witnesses the pledges were forced to drink in excess. police say some time after midnight gruver was highly intoxicated and placed on the couch. 11 hours later someone went to check on him and could not tell if he was breathing. we'll have much more on what these new search warrants reveal at 7:00 a.m. with your "gma first look" abc news, new york. it is 5:16. from the live desk now you're

looking at joint base andrews maryland where the president has just arrived. he is, of course, on his way to las vegas today. he plans to meet with the first responders and also meet with the victims and their families who are, many of them, still recovering from their injuries from sunday's mass shooting. of course we'll continue to follow the president's journey this morning. take a look at this video released by alameda police. it shows two young men who may be linked to a string of laptop thefts. this footage shows two robberies, both took place the same day, september 4th, at two different starbucks locations. the first near park street and central avenue. the second near fruitvale. since july more than half a dozen laptop thefts at alameda coffee shops. call police if you have any information to help catch these guys. san francisco is now the first city in the country to force supermarkets to report the use of antibiotics in raw meat. they unanimously approved the pressure. this means the department of

environment will have reports from more than 100 large grocery outlets in san francisco. the reports will have information about antibiotic usage. the goal is to reduce the number of drug resistant infections. if you think you're paying higher fees at the atm, you are. a new report says the average fee for withdrawal from a machine outside of your bank's network is $4.69. that is an all-time high. one car is listed, fewer people are using out of network atms and fewer using cash in general. alphabet's wamo plans to launch a ride sharing vehicle with no human safety drivers as soon as this fall if it can fix one major flaw according to information.com. the self-driving advance have difficulty making left turns when there are no green arrows just like most humans do. it seems the advance either turn too soon causing traffic hazards or too late frustrating the drivers behind them. the advance have difficulty

southbound 680 and this is all due to the late road work. if you look at the top of your screen you can see flashing lights and chp says they are working on picking up the closure. we're 21 minutes past schedule here from when they were supposed to have that done so we have significant delays. look at this drive time from highway 4 in to walnut creek. 1. 12. b.a.r.t. the way to go today. if you have to drive take taylor boulevard to the west there. westbound 24 walnut creek to highway 13 you're wide open past this. that's in the green at just eight minutes and not terrible but slight delays. westbound 580 tracy to duplin at 49 minutes. i do have some additional good news this morning. it looks like caltrans is going to be fixing some things here fairly soon and we are going to have highway 1 back open by december. so, of course, record rains caused significant problems along the coastal highway that added up to $75 million so the

would be insensitive. let me show you video we just received of president trump and his wife melania just boarding the airplane there in washington, d.c., and just pushing off moments ago, taking off very early this morning in washington to head this way toward las vegas. this is just after his trip to puerto rico where he saw damage from hurricane maria. he is expected to land here in vegas local time 9:30 this morning. we asked some cab drivers what they expect. they think it's going to be tougher to get around today. >> it will probably make a mess of things. it always does when a big dignitary comes into town, but that's the way it goes. not much you can do about it. and you might as well enjoy it. hopefully you're a trump fan. >> reporter: he is a trump fan, so he told us he is excited that the president is coming here today. the president's expected to meet

with victims and their families and also first responders. he did say we plan to spend quite a bit of time in las vegas. he didn't say, though, exactly when he will be departing to head back to washington. amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. >> yesterday you were menninging how people were working in casinos, thousands of people local there were just trying to keep it together, be professional, and allow people to enjoy vacations or business trips. have you noticed any change in the way people are reacting now that things have settled in? >> reporter: we have heard people talk they feel like the mood here is more somber than when they visited in the past and we noticed a lot of tourists coming by the scene where this happened to visit. it has become part of their vacation. we're also noticing maybe a new normal, hearing from guests of the hotel that security guards are wanding their bags and

purses with metal detecting wands so maybe an indication of new security measures now coming to vegas. reggie? >> i'm hearing that happening at the wynn and other places as well. thank you for your reporting, amy hollyfield live in las vegas. a candlelight vigil was held for the victims of sunday's shooting and it took place in a local park hosted by clark county and the city of las vegas a. gofundme page set up has raised more than $8 million so far. this money intended to provide relief and financial support to the victims and their families. friends, relatives, even total strangers gathered at a vigil last night for stacee etcheber in the mass shooting. >> we want you to know that we love you. >> they were there to bring some comfort to vinnie etcheber and their young son and daughter who lost their mom. they were in las vegas for the

concert. during the shooting vinnie ran to help victims and told stacee to go and seek safety. her brother-in-law says he has no doubt stacee died trying to help others even after her husband told her to run. vinnie was not hurt. another woman with bay area ties also died in the shooting, denise cohen, lived in santa barbara county. she attended the same high school as stacee etcheber. cohen had planned to go to a reunion next week. and a third bay area woman also died, 32-year-old michelle vo, a san jose native. she had been most recently living in southern california and working as an insurance agent. friends say she was brave and loved to explore. >> the loss, the grief and the fear caused by the shooting isn't limited to people at that concert. experts say watching video of the tragedy online or on tv over and over again can be unhealthy for some people. if you want to stay enveloped on

the latest news and are sensitive to the information, some suggest reading about it rather than watchig it. >> when you're done watching the petrified faces and people on gurneys or made up gurneys, it's very traumatizing, it's very upsetting. >> some of the signs if you are being overwhelmed by the coverage symptoms like the inability to sleep or focus or a hyper sense of vigilance. if you are affected b shootings, reach out to loved ones and seek professional help if you think you might need it. amy hollyfield and jessica castro are both in las vegas. we'll about back to amy -- we just talked to her at 5:30. we'll see her again at 6:30. stay with us for continuing coverage as the story develops. this morning first responders conduct add full scale emergency exercise at sfo and this year's annual exercise simulated terror attacks and included several agencies

including the san francisco fire department, police department and several mutual aid units from around the bay area more than 60 volunteers also took part giving first responders the opportunity to practice triage and transport functions. gilroy police are investigating an indecent exposure incident near a school. this happened around 8:00 on monday morning. a group of students say they were walking by a parked car when a man exposed himself. the kids kept walking and reported what happened. the car is described as an older model dark color sedan. police are investigating separate shootings and one of them fatal. a man found dead with multiple gunshot wounds outside a jack-n-the-box. a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest. two others were wounded in separate shootings just before 4:00 p.m. the oakland city council approved a plan to move homeless people into new shelters.

mayor libby schaaf pushed to move them off sidewalks and into safety. it will help move up to 40 people from encampments for up to six months and provide them social services. the city council adopted a two-year ordinance declaring a shelter crisis in oakland. it allows the mayor and the city more flexibility to build and provide public facilities for unsheltered residents. it does look like they're making progress picking up construction cones. you can see crews right now picking, hopefully, the last of these up. you can see a few more continue here and this was all scheduled to wrap up at about 5:00 this morning. here we are at 5:39 and, boy, we have some significant delays. southbound 680 jammed all the way up to highway 4. this also spilled over on to 242 coming through the concord area. right now we're looking at an hour and a half really from highway 4 down into lafayette. if you can jump on b.a.r.t. this morning instead that is

recommended or taylor boulevard. you'll have to use surface streets to get around this. hopefully we'll improve in the next 10 to 15 minutes. boy, that was really a major headache this morning. flipping over to our traffic maps, take a look at the bay bridge commute and this is our new 3d feature we have. you can see things are filling in through the maze and as of about 5:25 this morning we did get those metering lights flipped on. this is what it looks like. things are backing up. you're slow from about the 880 overpass joining the maze. so nothing out of the ordinary there. no blocking issues the rest of the way into san francisco. we'll take a look at drive times next. let's check in with meteorologist mike nicco. just looking at the toll bridge plaza how much worse it could be. speaking of our inland let's look at the san ro mon valley out to livermore. 45 to 48 degrees there. the rest of us around 50 to 52
