temperatures will mainly be in the 50s. sunny for this afternoon. and then temperatures will warm up to the low to mid-80s inland. and even 70s and near 80 around the bay. the upper 60s at the coast. it is going to be a great beach day, but the winds will pick up tonight. i'll tell you all about that coming up. chris? frances, thank you. we begin with developing news. the south breathing a sigh of relief after nate is downgraded to a tropical storm. this footage from biloxi, mississippi, is when nate was still a hurricane. it made landfall in just six weeks and the first to hit louisiana since katrina in 2005. we'll have a live report from alabama at the bottom of the hour. animal shelters from silicon

valley to wine country are filled with dozens of new pets ready for adoption. abc 7 news was at the hayward executive airport yesterday as 40 dogs and 25 cats arrived from shelters in new orleans. most of the animals being transferred are from areas hit by hurricanes. >> many of them were displaced into that area from harvey when it hit in texas and irma in florida. and what's happening now is they've got an influx of more animals coming in so they have to clear adoption space. >> the pleasanton foster group paid for the flights. the new orleans shelters are paying it forward for help during hurricane katrina. pets from puerto rico are now expected to fill the shelters in new orleans. today marks one week since last week's massacre in las vegas. the city is trying to take back their streets with people marching, sending prayers to the victims and calling for unity after the worst mass shooting in

to come forward posting billboards around vegas asking for details about the killer. 64-year-old stephen paddock would try to keep he spoke to himself to make others believe there was someone in there. and they found a prescription for valium in his room and some cryptic numbers. >> some didn't make it to this day, but you gave us this day so we can walk among the darkness. >> reporter: people vernlging for answers, are searching for answers. but they are hoping to help those who survived. >> the body of

her husband were at the shooting. benny went to help victims and told stacey to get to safety. 58-year-old stacey who lived in novato is survived by her husband and two children. happening today, east bay congressman eric swalwell will host a candle right vigil to honor victims of the massacre. the vigil will begin at 6:00 tonight at the corner of castro valley boulevard and red road in castro valley. "this week with george stephanopoulos" will focus on the shooting. two different views on gun control will be interviewed. martha raddock is answering the show. and the time is 5:05.

we are learning more about the south bay music teacher accused of sexually assaulting a charge. this morning police worry there could be more victims. lonny rivera has the story from san jose. >> they are all upset and they have a competition next week. this is what they have been spending their time on and rehearsing for. >> reporter: members on the brand shocked after learning their assistant band director is accused of sexually abusing a 13-year-old girl. >> they had no clue this was going on. >> reporter: 34-year-old samuel neipp was the music teacher at dartmouth middle school and used his position to exploit the girl. he talked to a detective on the case by phone. >> he would post elicit images that we would deem pornography of the victim to a social media

platform. >> reporter: according to detectives, neipp's relationship lasted three years. >> hopefully the judicial system will do what it is supposed to do and due process will be taken care of itself. >> reporter: he was also a piano teacher and is in jail accused of lewd acts with a minor with a court date set for tuesday. lonny rivera, abc7 news. and authorities canceled an amber alert after locating a missing 2-year-old from san francisco. the little girl is now safe and went missing at 3:00 p.m. yesterday. everyone got an alaert on their smartphones last night at 8:00. the officials took two people into custody at 7:00 last night. one of the suspects was the child's father. and to marin county now where a man is looking for those intentionally accused of driving into four cyclists. this happened before noon yesterday on petaloma road.

authorities say a man driving this older model dark blue dodge ram pickup truck appeared to swerve into them. all four men were hurt. one critically. >> if you see anything, if you have any information, please come to the authorities. we're just all collectively in this for a safe experience. >> here's another look at that truck. you can see it's lifted with custom rims and oversized tires. investigators say it's missing a passenger-side mirror, may have a sticker on the driver side rear window and had its license plate inside the front win windshield. it was last seen in marin. the driver is a might man 25 to 30 years old with brown hair, stubble on his face and a crew

cut. please call chp if you have information to help authorities in this case. and doctors, nurses and social workers came together yesterday to find ways to make their immigrant patients more comfortable. abc7 news was in oakland as they discussed ways to talk to parents and children who are worried if they go to see a doctor their parents could be broken up. >> i do hear complaints of kids not wanting to sleep or going to school because they don't want to be separated from their parents. it comes to a point where sometimes they have to make a choice and decide to put themselves at risk of being out in the community and being exposed. >> solutions that were discussed yesterday include putting up signs, providing information that empowers families to seek help from lawyers and finding new ways to speak to children and their parents to ease their concerns. well, today is the last day of a big weekend in san francisco. fleet week is in full swing. and the hardly strictly bluegrass festival is on.

right now just hours after being released from jail, police investigate a rape case against him. police called 911 earlier and said nelly raped her on his tour bus just an hour south of seattle. nelly denies the claim and last night took the stage in ridgeville, washington. nelly's attorney said the fabricated allegation is motivationed by greed and vindictiveness. and more problems this weekend with high school football games in the east bay. one was postponed and another one abruptly stop in the second half friday night. both games involved fights or threats of violence. leslie brinkley explains. >> reporter: no spectators. berkeley high school fans had to appear through the fence

surrounding the stadium this afternoon to watch the varsity game against tennessee that was postponed. a fight and ensuing threats on social media led them to cancel under friday night lights and play midday on saturday with no fans around. >> i was almost in my car ready to go to the game and saw it had been moved to saturday. >> just when there are things going on, it is better safe than sorry. >> there were no fans, it was just the whole atmosphere of high school football off today. but it's all good, they played well and had fun. >> reporter: it's the third time the high school football game has been postponed or canceled due to violence in the last week. also friday night, skyline high school was playing football here against oakland tech in the middle of the third quarter when the game was halted because of reports of fighting outside the stadium. oakland school officials in berkeley school officials did

dash onto bart tracks last month is now up for adoption. this dog ran as bart crews approached it at the coliseum station. it led to prouded platforms while they got the dog to safety. officials were unable to locate the owner. so yesterday the oakland animal shelter tweeted, it is now up for adoption and fittingly have decided to name him bart. time now is 5:17. right now the golden state warriors are playing a preseason game in shanghai, china. however, the team wanted all the fans there to feel like they were taking in a game at oakland's oracle arena. abc7 sports director is showing us how they did it. >> reporter: okay, standby. we are going to tee it high and let it fly. everybody ready? we're going.

if you liked yesterday, you'll like today. here's live doppler 7, pretty clear and cool out there. a few patchy clouds out there but that's about it. here's the transamerica tower with temperatures in the 40s and 50s. san francisco, 54. half-moon bay, pretty cool at 45 degrees. i'll show you another picture, this time we're looking from the north bay to the bay bridge there in san francisco. again, once in the some 40s in the north bay. santa rosa, 49. napa, 46. novato, 45. and some 50s, fairfield, 52. cop mcco concord, 57. livermore, 50 degrees. from the east bay to san francisco, here's what you can expect. we're going to have mild to warm conditions today and tomorrow. but becoming very windy overnight. i'll show you that in just a bit. and then get ready for the cooling trend to start midweek with temperatures coming down quite a bit.

the high fire danger, in fact, we have a red flag warning in effect at 11:00 this morning for the north bay, the east bay and the santa cruz mountains. the areas highlighted in red. we'll see northeast winds with gusts up to 55 miles per hour. and with very low humidity and dry air, fires can spread very quickly. there is also a wind advisory that kicks in later on tonight at 7:00. and this is mainly for the north bay and parts of the east bay where we are expecting gusts of about 45 miles per hour, at least that and even higher. so if you're driving especially in an suv or a minivan, there will be some difficulty for the taller vehicles and expect possibly some downed tree branches in those areas. i'll show you the wind forecast animation. so 4:00 this afternoon, we'll start to see the winds pick up. also, notice it's an offshore flow with winds coming from the north and northeast. and that is allowing temperatures to warm up today and tomorrow. but check it how windy it gets

overnight. we'll see many areas over 30 miles per hour, especially in the north bay. pretty windy as well in parts of the east bay. oakland to 24 miles. and the offshore flow changing the temperatures and keeping us warmer than average. and then tomorrow, we'll start to die down but still pretty windy. 11:00 is when it expires through the north and east bay for the wind advisory. so today, expect lots of sunshine once again with very mild temperatures along the coast. 68 at half-moon bay. san francisco, 74. oakland, perfect, 79 degrees. and san jose, 84 degrees. now, it's a great day to head to the beach. but if you are going there, just be extra careful. you may want to avoid getting in the water with a northwest and southwest swell. we'll see strong rip currents, sneaker waves and large shore breaks. look at the current wave heights, half-moon bay at 12 feet in effect through tonight. and a lot of folks heading into fleet week to see the blue angels, temperatures in the mid-70s. perfect weather there. lots of sunshine for everybody.

tomorrow's commute could be smoother for drivers in the east bay. 22 miles of express lanes will open along interstate 680 between walnut creek and san ramon. the express lanes run northbound and southbound from dublin to acosta boulevard. you'll need a fastpass or you'll be ticketed between 5:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. it will be determined to find realtime traffic conditions and free for car poolers and motorcyclists. a man in florida is raising a few eyebrows and questions after taking family photos with a bear. take a look at this, this is dustin radney and behind him he's posing with a bear. the animal has become a common visitor to a neighborhood in apopka not far from orlando, florida. he's been having fun with the bear and posting it on social media. he photoshopped a picture of his son onto the bear. rodney insists what we were doing is safe.

the winds are piling up. >> reporter: causing massive flooding along the gulf coast. this family stranded in biloxi had to be rescued. now residents are still waiting for it all to be over. >> we have our water, we're full of gas, our generators are working. >> reporter: this couple after planning their wedding day for 20 months gets married in mobile. >> we had pants pulled up and i was holding my dress and we were dancing. >> reporter: one of the big concerns with nate was storm surge. and here in mobile, it caused flooding in many of the roads downtown, but now it seems like the rain is stopping and this storm is moving on. in mobile, alabama, maggie ruly. >> maggie, we have had so many hurricane this is year, but nate is different than the rest. >> reporter: one of the biggest
