now from abc 7, live breaking news. >> several major fires have continued to grow tonight as expected, and now firefighters are beginning to get a small amount of containment around them. >> the biggest one is the atlas fire. it's burn mandatory evacuation order than 42,000 acres in napa and solano counties. all of the fires on the map have combined to burn nearly 200 square miles. just imagine that is an area larger than the city of san jose. >> rather remarkable. the number of people killed has risen to 23. that includes 13 people who have died in sonoma county alone. another 265 people remain unaccounted for in sonoma county -- i'm sorry, 285. let me get that figure right, remain unaccounted for in sonoma county. the fires have destroyed at least 3500 homes and businesses.

>> residents, let's take another look at some of the evacuation orders. we'll have a is a map to show you. some have been issued during the past few hours. the most serious one, a mandatory order for the entire city of calistoga. mandatory evacuation orders also in effect for parts of geyserville along highway 128 northeast of the russian river. there are also new evacuations tonight in the northeast corner of sonoma. >> and residents of the eastern sonoma valley received orders to evacuate their homes this evening. >> right now the california highway patrol is going door to door, urging people to get out. and you're looking at video of that happening. abc 7 news reporter lilian kim joins us live from sonoma with the latest. lilian? >> kristen and dan, we're on 7th street and castle road. and the area beyond this point is under a mandatory evacuation order. that order came down just a few hours ago, and since then we have seen emergency vehicles driving around securing the area. the rest of sonoma, including sonoma plaza is under an

evacuation advisory. no mandatory evacuation orders yet. most of the stores have been closed since the fires broke out. but the owner of figoni olive oil company chose to pack up as much inventory as he possibly could. boyes hot springs in alvarado are also under an evacuation advisory. ron and his girlfriend packed up things that couldn't be replaced, things of sentimental value. >> now it's starting to kick in because i just couldn't imagine something like this to happen. this is such a quiet, beautiful neighborhood, snow. it's good's country. you never know. look what is going on, all these fires. >> the roads leading up to arnold drive were bumper-to-bumper for most of the afternoon and into the evening. but a few have chosen to stay. one person we talked with says unless it's a mandatory order, they're staying put. live in sonoma, lilian kim, abc 7 news. >> okay, lilian, thank you very much. >> some healdsburg residents

will spend the night in a shelter after they were advised to evacuate from their homes. >> abc 7 news reporter katie utehs is live in healdsburg with more on that. katie? >> this shelter is housing a lot of people from santa rosa and the surrounding areas. but tonight they've seen an influx of locals from healdsburg as the city itself has some evacuation advisories under way. >> cardinal newman is gone. cloverleaf ranch is gone. >> bells healdsburg ambulance drivers took this video as they evacuated patients sunday night and monday morning from santa rosa. some of those emts have lost their homes, but continue to work for days, since the north bay fire started. now the company's offices are threatened in healdsburg as part of the city here is under an evacuation warning. meaning be ready to go at a

moment's notice. >> fitch mountain, and the bill of fitch mountain, which is us. >> we'll wait until we can't. it's hard to leave your job when this is what you're supposed to do. >> people are loading their photos and memento, important paperwork into vehicles, preparing to leave. well also saw other people wetting down their roof and yards tonight, prepping to go, as we said, at a moment's notice. the healdsburg community center is about halfway full. they have room for 50 or so more people. and it is a pet friendly shelter. live in healdsburg, katie utehs, abc 7 news. >> thank you. >> the entire town of calistoga is under a mandatory evacuation order tonight. >> abc 7 news reporter katie marzullo is live in the city's downtown, which is pretty empty. and we don't appear to have katie. >> there you go. >> there you go. >> dan and kristen, yes, i'm here. i'm the only thing here.

me and my photograph scott arth arthur. take a look. it really is kind of surreal. this is downtown. no sign of life. but that is because the mandatory evacuation order has been deemed a success. and i know it's almost midnight. but it's really been like this all evening, and even before the sun went down. the only activity you're seeing in this part of town is law enforcement. and there are countless officers. we see them occasionally go up and down the main street here. but they're also going out and about through the neighborhoods. and the city says things are safe and secure here, and that any unauthorized person who is found in this area is subject to arrest. so calistoga under a mandatory evacuation order because of the nearby tubbs fire and because of potentially dangerous wind still in the forecast. we want to show you this one family we came across in town. they told us they are not leaving despite the order, but they were taking the precaution of hosing down the roof. and then we came across another house in which the family did evacuate, but they left a sprinkler running on their roof

and also a folding table out front of the house with family photos on it and snacks, and a note to firefighters that reads "please save our home." there are 5,000 people who live in the city of calistoga, and the city is calling the mandatory evacuation a success. and a little bit of good news tonight. the city reporting that the progression of the fire has slowed. live in calistoga, katie marzullo, abc 7 news. >> katie, thank you. >> well, the sky map feature on sky 7 was turned on when it flew over santa rosa's coffee park neighborhood today. so you can see all of the street names there to give you a better idea of what the area is like. we've been on the ground in this area, which is just devastated. several streets don't have a single home left standing after the fire burned through there between sunday night and monday morning. but a few houses seem to be undamaged, as you saw there momentarily. you can see them on the bottom part of the screen a moment ago. there you go.

right near cashew road. those homes survived. now take a look at firefighting in kenwood. we have news that just north of glen ellyn in sonoma county and now video as well, just a short distance along highway 12 from santa rosa's oaklawn neighborhood. lots of firefighters here are battling some huge flames. some homes in nearby glen ellyn have already burned on sylvia drive. >> all right. we want to give you a look at how widespread the destruction is at the journeys end mobile home park. my goodness, look at this. our drone view shot earlier today gives you the full scope of the devastation there. one woman died many this mobile home park. she is identified as linda tunis. she had been reported missing. her neighbors face the task of rebuilding after flames destroyed their homes. and as you can see clearly, al of their possessions. >> well, people who escaped the fire had just moments in many cases to get out. >> i didn't grab anything really. like a laptop right sitting there and stuff that is easy to grab. and i just took off.

seconds. seconds could have made the difference between life and death. so there was no waiting. ernie chapman lives in santa rosa. he says his dogs helped alert him to the fire by barking. they all escaped safely. but their home is gone. well, the north bay's new smart train service is providing rides for free for the third day in a row. some service is limited because of the wildfires, of course. the sonoma county airport and santa rosa north stations are closed. now check out this view captured as a train rolled through santa rosa. you can see buildings burned, trees burned, some smoke still rising. just so much damage and destruction. safari west, a wife life sanctuary in santa rosa posted late today that their animals are safe, and, quote,ng relaxedg the situation. the area around the center is evacuated because of the fire. a few staff members have been escorted in by emergency

officials to help the animals. but lot of you have been asking. the animals are doing fine. >> all right. as you heard, santa rosa has been hit so hard by the wildfires. we've seen several neighborhoods burn to the ground, nothing left. on rolling oak, melanie woodrow found one family who says they feel a mix of guilt and gratitude. >> a row of mailboxes in santa rosa still standing. each of the homes they go to demolished. nothing seems real yet. >> now i'm going to start crying if i talk about. >> here rooms blend together. the remnants of a bed suggesting this one was someone's bedroom. >> looking at our neighbor's homes on either side of russ gone. there is nothing. >> miraculously, brianne and brad pruitt's house is unscathed. 17 years of memories untouched. >> we feel so grateful, yet feel a little guilty that people that we care about lost everything. my mom included. >> abandoned vehicles in the

middle of the roadway could be signs of desperate attempts to escape. >> that was not there when i drove out. and that fire was on the property already. >> returning here made them wonder, what if it had been them. would they rebuild? >> initially i would say we were done. because it's -- you have all your love and 17 years of money into the piggy bank. and it's horrible. horrible. >> as their neighbors work through that same question, there are new concerns. gusting winds expected to pick up, potentially spreading embers to areas spared by the fire so far. in santa rosa sack, melanie woodrow, abc 7 news. >> we want to keep you updated on wind conditions on the fire lines, because that's what this thing will turn on in the next few hours. >> they have picked up in the past few hours. let's check in with meteorologist sandhya patel with the latest on the conditions. >> the conditions are not favorable for firefighters, dan and kristen. let's take a look at what's

ahead. the next few days expect unhealthful air quality, smoky conditions and high fire danger. red flag warning for the hills until 5:00 p.m. tomorrow. this is where the winds could reach over 50 miles an hour with the relative humidity 10 to 20%. a very drying wind. any fires that do develop will spread rapidly. and the fires that are burning in the north bay, embers could get tossed around. and that could start other fires. just be aware of this. gusty winds prompting a wind advisory for the hills until 5:00 p.m. tomorrow. we look at live doppler 7 right now. skies are clear tomorrow afternoon. it's going to be another smoky day with hazy sunshine. low 60s to the mid-70s. accuweather seven-day forecast featuring wind and smoke again friday. winds will relax saturday afternoon. the temperatures will come up. and hopefully, as we head towards the middle of next week, maybe some relief for firefighters. download the accuweather app. check out the live doppler 7 temperatures. wednesday we may see

trump twitter storm begin in three, two -- did it start? i was a cub scout when i was a kid in brooklyn, the neckerchief, the yellow hat, the whole deal. every tuesday or wednesday we would meet, have den meeting at the house of one of scouts. two moms would run the meeting. i don't remember what we did but there was definitely no scouting. we didn't tie knots. we never learned to start fire. we didn't help old ladies across the street. there was absolutely no reason for us to be in uniform, we did nothing. do the pledge of allegiance and sit at the table. we took one cub scout trip. we had exactly one outing in two or three years. instead of going to the woods they lined us up and marched us down the block to have a tour of a carville ice cream store. for me was better than camping because i loved carville ice cream, i was excited wit. we'd get to see how the ice cream was made, then we'd have ice cream. i was only 7 years old so i don't remember exactly what happened. all i remember is that we got no

ice cream. our field trip was we got in our scout uniforms, went to an ice cream store, ate no ice cream, they showed us machines and sent us home. so while i'm happy that girls are now being allowed in the cub scouts i do want to say to those girls, look out what you wish for. "vanity fair" had a story today that says he told his long-time security chief, i hate everyone in the white house. the white house responded today. this is true. by saying the president's mood is good and his outlook on the agenda is very positive. imagine the white house has to announce the president's mood is good. the report also says he's not getting along with chief of staff general john kelly. in response to that the president tweeted, as he rarely does but he decided this story is totally made up by the dishonest media, the chief is doing a fantastic job for me and more importantly for the usa. so chief's gone by, what,

[ laughter ] anyway, trump has an interesting way of answering questions about john kelly. whenever they ask what he thinks of him, "he's a general." that's like being asked what you think of your steak and you say, "it was a cow." you know? according to the story in "vanity fair," john kelly is miserable in his job, only staying in it out of a sense of duty to keep trump from making a disastrous decision. but publicly they say he's very happy. sure he is, you can see how happy he is right there. he always looks luke he's in one of those wanna get away southwest airlines commercials. it's all fake news. trump lashed out again today at nbc. he wrote, with all of the fake news coming out of nbc and the networks, at what point is it appropriate to challenge their license? bad for country. never? i don't know, that's what dictators do? never is it appropriate to challenge their license? into a major tourist destination. serious. he's hoping investors will finance $7 million department store and $123 million golf course in this town. it all makes sense, this is how he's going to try to get trump, building a golf course with a bull's-eye on it like a wily coyote type move. think. >> jimmy: that's right, i was flying to new york in the morning. i was doing basically what ryan seacrest does all the time now. i'd fly to new york overnight. host that show. fly back. host this show. fly back. i did that for a week. it was a stupid, stupid thing to do. >> i don't know, i thought you pulled it off, you were pretty good. >> jimmy: you must have caught me early in the week. >> it was tuesday, yeah. >> jimmy: tuesday, yeah, there you go. by that friday i was speaking in tongues. i literally made no sense whatsoever. i mentioned that "texas chainsaw massacre" movie. you from there texas, you went to the university of texas. >> yes, i did. [ cheers and applause ] >> jimmy: is that where you started acting? were you in college when it began? >> yeah, yeah, i was in school. and i started booking little jobs around town. and it was a nice paycheck. >> jimmy: what kind of jobs were you doing? local commercials? >> yeah, ridiculous things. local commercials. you know, just tiny little spots here and there. then i would get little jobs in little movies and the parts got a little bit bigger. you know. >> jimmy: the parts got bigger

and then -- you know, i have to say, i know you're in -- you played "dathed and confused." >> yes, yes. i had lots of very small parts in "dazed and confused." >> jimmy: what do you mean? >> i kind of popped around. i think my official title as a featured extra, because you know, i was an extra. i didn't actually get a job in "dazed and confused." they said, we're not going to hire you, future bunt to come down and be part of the production, yukou could be the fifth senior girl who drives the blue truck. you're not going to have speaking lines or anything, but we would like you to be here for continuity. >> jimmy: oh, how nice. >> yeah. >> jimmy: you were in the truck, there for continuity. >> yeah. >> jimmy: and then -- people have said about that movie, people who have been here, it was like a frat party 24 hours a day, that it was really like a very unprofessional but fun -- a fun professional place to be if you will. was it -- did you feel like at what is that? >> it looked that way.

i was an outsider. i was the girl out in the yard who wasn't invited into the party. it looked like they were having a nice time and i learned a lot. >> jimmy: what did you learn? >> that's how film sets work. they're kind of a mystery. why is that guy doing all that? carrying the cables? how do these people know when they have time to go to the bathroom? just how a film set works. >> h >>. >> jimmy: how do they know when it's time to go to the bathroom? >> they haven't figured that out yet. >> jimmy: there are still mysteries involved. then you moved to california. did you move here to -- for a specific part? >> well, actually -- i had kind of run out of things to do. in texas. >> jimmy: i see. >> after that i think i had done a film called "loving at 45" in texas. the next audition was for a long john silver's commercial. >> jimmy: really. >> yeah, it would have been -- you know, it would have paid really well, but i think the line was "go fish."

[ laughter ] >> jimmy: and you didn't get that? >> i thought, if i'm going to grow and learn anything, i might have to come -- >> jimmy: go fish was not enough for you. you moved west. then what did you do when you came here? continue with commercials? >> no, i was busy. i had done quite a few films out in austin before i moved. because nobody's looking to move away from austin, right? >> jimmy: right. >> so i took my time coming occupant here. but i had some films in the can. but still i needed a job. so a friend of mine hired me, rio hackford. thank you, rio, by the way. he hired me as his barback at the three clubs right over here on vine. >> jimmy: oh, yeah, right. that's still here, yeah, yeah. >> it was right before that swingers sort of hipster moment happened. and it was still just kind of a cool dive bar in the crown mart. do you remember, right behind the mobile station? >> jimmy: it's on santa monica and vine, right? >> yeah, yeah. >> jimmy: yeah. >> and i was there with my
