6:03 am
now. it looks like those flames are about to crest that ridge. of course we've been watching it all morning long. check out this video we have from an hour ago. you could see significant flames in the skyline wilderness park area. the good news, there aren't any homes in this area but obviously firefighters want to get those flames out. across the highway an advisory evacuation has been issued. about 45 minutes ago a long line of police cars rolled by headed toward the city of napa. i saw several different agencies that can help with road closures, evacuations and patrolling neighborhoods. new evacuation centers are also popping up. one was set up at american canyon high school with cots, blankets, food, water and wi-fi. the race ground is open for rvs. fairfield high school is open as a shelter. eacuation centers are taking donations like clothing and blankets. people are trying to be hopeful, but of course it's difficult when you still have fire burning

an island. we've got smoky conditions around us. when i look up, i actually see blue skies, which i haven't been able to see the last couple of days. when you see the smoke here in these hills just outside of napa, you can see the blue skies behind it, but obviously that is going to change with all of this smoke going up into the air. this fire has been burning here this morning and we've been seeing flames earlier this morning, but now all you can see is that smoke but you can know there are a lot of flames behind there. the good news, though, this is not burning in an area with homes, this is in the skyline wilderness park area. obviously firefighters want to get these flames out. earlier this morning a long line of police cars rolled by here headed toward the city of napa. about a half hour later, more than a dozen motorcycle officers came through and we've been seeing fire trucks coming into town all morning long. a lot of help being sent here from all over. new evacuation centers are also popping up. one was set up at american canyon high school with cots, blankets, food, water and wi-fi.
6:47 am
the sonoma raceway campgrounds is open for rvs. fairfield high school is also open as a shelter. evacuation centers are taking donations like clothing and blankets. firefighters will be keeping an eye on these flames here in the hills. of course they want to get these flames out, but we'll be dealing with the smoke all day long, all week long and, yeah, firefighters are coming in to town to lend more hands up there to fight this blaze of the reporting live in napa, matt keller, abc 7 news. >> we appreciate the update. thank you. now we'll turn to sonoma county and a spokesman who's been helping us out with new information throughout the morning. scott alonzo is on the phone with us. scott, you're telling us several thousand people are in the shelters this morning. what is it that you are looking forward to today? what's the kind of point of concern that you are looking at? >> good morning. yeah, we're still fighting six different fires throughout the county and those are our top priority. we have to ensure that lives are being protected and property as well because these fires are not
6:48 am
only threatening lives, they're also threatening numerous structures and businesses and roads. so we are urging people that if they have been given a mandatory evac notice to depart immediately. we have 24 shelters in the county, including four shelters with enhanced services. i just want to quickly read off which four shelters that is. that's the sonoma marin fairgrounds in petaluma, the sonoma county fairgrounds in santa rosa, lc allen high school in santa rosa and the santa rosa veterans building. these centers are being prioritized for resources and have blankets, towels, sheets, mental health services, so we want folks to try to go to one of those four enhanced shelters. >> i can only imagine, scott, that a lot of these folks who are in shelters or are staying with family and friends, they're getting pretty antsy to know what exactly happened to their property. is there any indication of when they might be allowed to go in or escorted in to see their

homes? >> we don't have an exact time frame yet. we do know it's not safe right now. we are working with state fire safe. but when the evacuation orders are in effect, those areas are no-go zones. you cannot enter those areas. so please do not attempt to drive home if you've been given that evacuation notice because these areas are dangerous. we want you to be safe. >> scott alonzo. he also shared with us a credit union, redwood credit union which is a site where you are donate money. natasha and i have both tweeted that and put it on our facebook pages. >> 100% of those donations will be going to help the north bay fire victims. now to your morning money report. if you are forced to evacuate, you could now be facing big bills while you wait to go home. >> things like hotel rooms and food can be covered by your insurance if your property suffers damage, you may have to pay for temporary housing, storage costs and transportation. here's what a state farm agent says that you should do to make sure that you get that reimbursement. >> we encourage everyone to hold

on to any receipts related to them being displaced from their home. so the hotel receipt, buying extra clothing because they didn't have enough time to pack, buying food for the dogs or a kennel for the dog because the hotel they're staying at doesn't allow dogs. >> that's good information to know. and in just three days state farm has received 1,400 homeowner claims, 850 auto claims connected to fire damaged vehicles and those numbers are expected to skyrocket once people are allowed back into their homes to fully assess the damage. >> all professional bay area sports teams, warriors, a's, raiders, giants, niners, quakes and sharks have joined together to help raise money for the fire victims. they have committed to $450,000 and they want all of us as fans to chip in. they have set up a you caring pa page. all that money goes to the red cross. >> you can just text red cross, one word, to 90999 and it will send $10 to the american red cross. if you want to volunteer, they do need volunteers. this is the number to call.

707-577-7600. >> the air quality right now, you can see it behind us with the orange glow. >> it's terrible. >> i know that it looks pretty but it doesn't smell that way. it's not good for us. we are having worse air quality in san francisco and in oakland than we are, mike, up in santa rosa right now. >> yeah, those northerly winds did vent some of the north bay as we expected and pushed it down to the south. low visibility petaluma and livermore right now followed by napa and half moon bay. this is the way it looks. smoke makes a colorful sunrise but i'd rather do without it. fire danger tapers today but so do the breezes. i'm tracking a chance of rain. let me say that again, i'm tracking a chance of rain. 62 to 64 along the coast of san francisco, 61 to 71 around the bay and 72 to 75 inland. temperatures in the 40s tonight in most neighborhoods, even some 30s in the north bay valleys.

5:00 wednesday evening you can see moderate rain up around brookings, but that falls apart, brings us some light to moderate rain to the north bay during the overnight hours. we wake up thursday morning to some sprinkles and then clearing conditions. right now possibly a third of an inch of rain in the north bay wednesday. what it will do for all of us is induce a cooling, cleaner and more humid air mass by wednesday. alexis. >> all right, looking forward tomt, mike. we do have quite a few issues to get to on the roads. the bay bridge sounds like a motorcycle possibly rear-ended a big rig westbound 80 just past treasure island. that is stacking up quickly. we know we have at least one right lane blocked, possibly more as emergency crews arrive on the scene. yeah, it looks pretty like mike said but that is not the sunrise we really want to see. a lot of smoke filling in here at the bay bridge toll plaza and you can believe that backup will merge with those delays heading towards treasure island. and we have a crash on southbound 680, not here at our walnut creek camera, actually just north at monument. i'll talk more about that next.

>> thank you, alexis. there is good progress to report against the sulphur fire in the clear lake oaks area of lake county, off highway 20. now 45% contained. the sulphur fire has burned 2,500 acres. they are mopping up hot shots and burned out. resources there will be sent to another fire. looking outside at 6:53 with abc 7 keeping
