get a quick check of weather and traffic and, mike, you're telling us it will be a cooldown today. >> absolutely. and here's one of the reasons why. look at that. look how thick the fog is as we turn to the north bay, the brighter, the whiter, the thicker it is. all the way up to clover dale over to middleton down to st. helena and sonoma and encroaching upon novato. so be prepared for a reduction in visibility. use those low beams and looks like it's going to be a tough ride for you up there at least through about 8:00 and then it will start lifting. if you're stepping out right now dress for 41 in napa. we drop down to about 39 by the end of the morning. 42 in santa rosa, some of our cooler spots. let's see if we can find other 40s. concord, hayward, fremont. we have half moon bay and livermore. san francisco 51. san jose 54. oakland about 46 degrees.

the storm is on the way. it could mess up parts of your afternoon. it really looks like friday morning's commute will be the wettest. i'll have that coming up. here's alexis. certainly a welcome change there, mike. i could feel the cooler temps when i stepped outside this morning. yesterday we had quite a stackup in both of our cash lanes looking like that's not an issue at least not yet this morning. our drive times are looking good, too, slight delays already filling in for the central valley. westbound 580 tracy to dublin. the first one in the yellow coming in at 34 minutes. southbound 680 dublin to mission boulevard at 15. northbound 85 highway 101 to cupertino 15 minutes. a spare the air day. thank you, alexis. a santa rosa couple will hold a news conference today answering questions about their new lawsuit against pg&e. >> wayne and jennifer harville lost their home last week when the tubbs fire first ignited.

the couple claims pg&e high-voltage lines came into contact with vegetation sparking multiple fires. officials will not speculate about any of the causes. pg&e says they have restored to customers in the north bay. access has been given to 6,000 homes. officials expect to restore power by tomorrow. pg&e says it hopes to get access to the remaining 400 homes today. officials also say they expect to restore gas service to all remaining customers who can receive it by tonight. the napa county sheriff identified the volunteer firefighter killed monday, 38-year-old garrett paiz. he was working as a volunteer from washington state. he was driving a privately owned tinder down a steep grade.

it rolled down an embankment. paiz was the 42nd victim and the first crew member to lose his life. >> heartbreaking and this morning we are getting a broader view of the devastation caused by the wildfires. >> wayne freedman took an aerial tour. >> reporter: at ground level we're running out of words as views begin to run together. up close this is fountaingrove. and now a broader view from a higher plane. >> i didn't think it was that big like in the residential areas at least. >> reporter: that was u.s. air force reserve staff sergeant from auburn after he escorted us into a helicopter that took us on a most sobering aerial tour of the fire zones. it's a landscape that looks so familiar until suddenly you fly over a patch of black, and then it's wasteland.

this is what remains of coffey park. it looks flattened from above as if by a bomb and that was just the first flyover of many. >> east of santa rosa. >> reporter: now the white smoke sending a not so subtle signal that here in the rough country flames continue to have their way. up front major ken compared this to what he saw in afghanistan and iraq, those places were tough, he told us, but this is home and it's not his first taste of tragedy. >> a few weeks ago we were in florida working hurricane recovery. so, you know, in either scenario you start thinking about what it would be like to be that person with that loss and it's remarkable. it's got to be a tough spot to be in. >> reporter: more like tough spots on day nine. big, black, billowing ones.

wayne freedman, abc 7 news. >> 7 on your side's michael finney was at the sonoma county fair grounds helping out wildfire victims. finney and the rest of the team will be in the north bay taking your questions. today 7 on your side will be set up at various locations in napa starting at 11:00 this morning. you can follow abc 7 news on social media throughout the day for updates on where to find us. for a list of locations go to abc7news.com/7onyourside. and breaking news a late-night fire at the largest refinery on the west coast. it's in the los angeles area. take a look here. heavy smoke and flames rose from the chevron refinery in el segundo. there was an explosion around 10:30 last night. some flames touched power lines creating even more sparks. firefighters used water and foam to put out the fire. it took them about an hour.

police told people living nearby to close their windows, stay indoors and, thankfully, we have no reports of anyone injured. >> firefighters moved quickly to stop flames burning along highway 101 in sausalito. abc 7 news was there when crews attacked two small fires. southbound drivers faced delays heading to the golden gate bridge while emergency vehicles blocked several lanes. and sky 7 captured this video of cal fire planes attacking those flames. at least two acres burned. some nearby homes were evacuated or had to shelter in place for a short time. let's open the weather window on san rafael and bring you good news. look at the lack of haze out there right now. there is fog to your north and south so watch out if you're traveling north or south on 101. air quality right now is healthy for all of us. it's moderate whether you're in the north bay, the coast, the

central bay, inland, south central bay or santa clara valley. as far as later today we still have the spare the air because the air quality will be poor up in the north bay at least. take a look at these temperatures. up to 10 to 12 degrees cooler in places like oakland, hayward, and san francisco. where does that put us? we'll start in our inland east bay neighborhoods. look at all those mid to upper 40s out to livermore and then low to mid-50s, 51 to 56 highway 4. the rest of us about 50 in san francisco and also in san carlos to 54 right now in san jose. 49 in hayward. about 43 in novato. south beach you can see not quite as hazy thanks to that sea breeze that is bringing us some refreshing air from over the ocean. roads today a little bit of fog this morning, a little bit of haze this afternoon. mass transit cool to warm once again and a small craft advisory which we'll talk more about in 15 minutes. let's focus in on our next weather hit. guess what we'll talk about, yeah, rain.

public prepare will take place today. coyote creek flooded three communities earlier this year. the fairs are being held near each of those communities and tonight's winter storm resource fair will be held at the golden wheel mobile home park community park room from 6:00 to 9:00. senators dianne feinstein and harris are raising concerns about the wireless emergency alert system, it's the system that sends alerts to your cell phone. the center sent a letter to the fcc saying the system didn't transit life-saving information during the north bay fires because of, quote, technical deficiencies. sonoma county sheriff said they sent out alerts through nixle. both require people to register in advance. an open letter from female lawmakers, the change they want to see at the state capitol. and saving the grapes in wine country after the wildfires. we'll show you

president trump's revised travel ban is not going to be taking effect today. the policy was blocked yesterday. the justice department plans to appeal the decision. this is president trump's third attempt. that ban would have covered chad, iran, libya, north korea, syria, yemen, and somalia and it would have limited some venezuelan officials. the state of hawaii has sued three times over the travel ban. happening today the primary challenger hoping to replace democrat dianne feinstein in the senate will officially kick off his campaign in los angeles. state senator kevin deleon will hold at noon today. the state senator said california has changed over the past 25 years and is overdue for a real debate on the issues. women in california politics are fed up with being sexually harassed and have launched a

campaign to do something about it. female politicians released an open letter signed by 140 women saying the male power structure in sacramento needs to be diverse and wants to begin a dialogue and work to a solution. the letter follows the scandal of harvey weinstein and ends with, quote, we are done with this. an effort to save the grapes after the wildfires is under way in wine country. >> and there's more than bottles of wine at stake. david louie has a look at the livelihoods on the line. >> reporter: it has been a tough time for wineries to lose power. they need to maintain tanks at specific temperatures for fermentation and to do the crush. imagery had $2 million worth of wine in production when the fire raced through. >> really critical. it's very, very critical to the quality of what we're doing. >> reporter: he located three

high-capacity generators he set up in the winery. one crisis was solved but another quickly emerged. roadblocks and road closures prevented struckers from bringing in the remainder of the harvested grapes. the sooner they can be picked and trucked the less chance damaged by the thick smoke the fires produced. the smoke can pass through the membrane and leave them unsuitable for wine. >> tastes like ashtray. >> reporter: he says four employees lost their homes but demonstrated grit and determination by coming to work. >> employees of this winery are so passionate about what they do. they've worked all year long growing the grapes, nurturing them on the vine. it's time to pick the grapes, they want to get it in. they've been waiting all year long. >> reporter: he estimates only one-fourth of the wineries are processing grapes and the outlooj for damaged vineyards remains wait and see. >> they're very mature. they're in their prime. hopefully a lot of them can be

hours and that will spread over the next several days as that cold front draws near and directs the smoke away from us and the warmth we've been dealing with. you can see from the exploratorium camera some of the clouds are hanging out. it is still spare the air day with most of the fine particulate matter that constitutes that alert remaining up in the north bay. for the rest of us cleaner and a sea breeze today. now we'll have some wet weather tomorrow through friday and it's building warmth this weekend. as far as what we're seeing check out the cold front that's up to our north and the low that's churning through the gulf of alaska. that is going to slide down about 800 miles it has to journey to get to us. until it does, that's when things will change once again. as far as your forecast, some yellow and oranges in mendocino county, possibly in lake county as we start at 4:00. we'll have scattered light rains ahead of the storm tomorrow afternoon mainly up in the north

bay. and then you can see by 10:00 the rains are moving in, even the south bay and then by about 4:00 in the morning it's over and we'll be dealing with slick streets and the sun will start to come out to the end of the morning commute. rainfall potential, around a tenth of an inch or less like in the south bay. up to a quarter of an inch. the forecast will be coolest tomorrow into friday. 50s and 60s. 60s and 70s saturday. 60s, 70s and 80s sunday, monday, and tuesday. hey, alexis. good morning. we do have one new issue in the sunol area. it sounds like a semi may have lost part of its load. whatever that was it seems to be causing flat tires. 680 right around the state route 84 interchange. three to four vehicles off on the shoulder with some flat tires so chp on the way to the scene and a semi in the area trying to secure the load there. pretty sure that is what

welcome back. a convoy of trucks and trailers filled with supplies as part of a generous outpouring of support for wildfire victims in napa. >> future farmers of america students from the central valley trucked in three loads of supplies like hay and feed to vintage high school. they are helping feed displaced animals rescued from the flames including an alpaca, flocks of chickens and goats. >> driving up here on the highway you see fields and vineyards burned to the ground. it feels great to be able to support someone who has just lost everything. >> and there are some animals that suffered burn injuries in the fires. they're being cared for by students from uc davis' vet school. >> and the dmv helping wildfire victims get back on their feet. the agency is offering free replacements for people who lost documents like driver's licenses, vehicle registrations and titles. fees are waived for residents of
