accused of running over the officer has been caught now. good evening. >> the whole thing began at 12:21 p.m. the officer was hurt on turk street near van ness avenue. then the suspect's car was found abandoned on fell. >> officers were searching for the suspect. our team coverage begins with leann melendez. >> reporter: we were told that he is out of surgery and in the intensive care unit. we have this cell phone video to show you. the officer arrived about 10 to 15 minutes after the incident. police were able to get him here very quickly. they were blocking traffic and freeway on-ramping.

you're seeing video of the moment the officer was taken off the ambulance. his wife, we are told, is by his side and other family members are coming from out of state the officer has been with the department for four years and assigned to tenderloin station. he is out of surgery and in the intensive care unit. >> reporter: obviously a lot of officers are also here at san francisco general hospital by his side. we're told that the officers from his station, the tenderloin station, have taken this very badly and are asking our viewers to pray for this officer. i'm live at san francisco general. abc7 news. >> indeed. thank you. >> sky 7 shows you all the activity surrounding the manlt earlier today as police search for the suspect.

>> this is where it happened. you can see the section behind me between franklin and van ness. they had blocked street all afternoon. that is where the officer went down. >> it happened just before 12:30 this afternoon. mid block on turk street between franklin and van ness. we got here minutes after the officer was hit by a lexus suv. police have yet to release his name. a large group of officers tended to him as they waited for an ambulance. a more nearby. we've learned it is more a member of the tender loin bicycle unit. he was quickly transported by ambulance to san francisco general hospital. the police spokesman explained what happened. >> so this afternoon at ploiks 12:21 p.m., the offers were

could not an investigation. a possible firearms investigation. they believe he was in possession of a fire article. it appears the suspect became aware of the officer's presence. >> the suspect was at the gas station at turk and franklin when he saw police and took off, hitting the bicycle officer as he escaped. the officer drove to the pan handle with officers on the chase. he ran off toward buena vista park, that's where police set up a perimeter blocking are the public. >> again as my colleague reported, the suspect has been

>> in the santa rosa fire zone, an elementary school burned to the ground and the community is rallying to help out. many have lost their homes. it is a daunting task. leslie? >> reporter: you can't believe this. a school burned down and take a look at the response. here, kids can come in and get books, toys and clothes. a santa rosa city schools figure out how somehow they'll reopen. >> this was the satellite school. it is gone. it is hard to discern what were once desks or a play ground. these students will go to hidden valley elementary where the school psychologist even lost his own home. >> 154 kids lost their homes at our school site. 144 kids lost their homes.

about 180 kids will join us and we'll welcome them with open arms. >> they are bracing for school to start back up. >> one of the things students are contacting us the most about are their textbooks and musical instruments and things that are precious to them that they're worried about. and what we told them is not to worry about that. >> schools in the fire zones are not losing out on state funding because they're closed and they will not have to make up the lost days or extend the school year. schools have to be scrubbed of soot and smoke damage. >> we have many of our own professional that's say they're not ready to come back. they are handling and emotionally processing this.

and first responders will be very appreciative. for all the destruction we've seen in the north bay for the past ten days, there are stories of survival as well. and some of them are in the most unlikely of places. wayne friedman visited one of them. >> feeding time, it is an everyday activity in this wildlife preserve. on day ten following the sonoma county fires, they have another description. >> miracle is probably the best way to describe it. >> a zone touched by fire for certain but not destroyed like everything else around here. sunday night, the blaze driven by 80-mile-an-hour winds skipped directly over them. >> the mountain saved you. >> yes. >> it also saved 1,000 animals and 98 species in the process. they fared better than a lot of humans.

she's also been evacuated if her hole. >> a bigger reminder of what i have. not to take anything for granted. >> the bear fire started as a structure fire two days ago before spreading to nearby brush. nearly 200 structures are threatened. four have already burned. seven firefighters have suffered injuries. but fire crews are making progress as they work to get the upper hand. >> they're the best there is. i am very, very grateful. i can't say enough. >> this video from yesterday shows the intensity of the flames. air operations were briefly suspended earlier today after a drone was spotted flying in the fire zone. cal fire says that's against the law. >> they pose a risk like we've heard birds flying in the air can hinder the efforts of our aircraft from above. >> an unnecessary challenge as evacuees stay positive. >> i think i speak for mountain people, our connection to our home and environment is so unique and special. it is hard to explain.

>> reporter: all knowing the fire will burn for the time being. >> and just this past hour we learn that had a car putting out sparks, started that fire in marin county yesterday. attacking the flames near sausalito yesterday afternoon, it turns out it was three small fires that eventually rolled into bigger ones. investigators say one car sent out several sparks, starting each of the small fires. san francisco is going after pg & e after a mud slight. it started early last year as we reported at the time. investigators believe he a gas line project by pg & e led to the hillside giving way. dennis herrera says the city has paid out nearly $8 million in claims. money that he is now suing to recover from pg & e. the suit demands that he make

improvements in the area to prevent further slides in the future. five men are now in the marin county jail arrested as part of a nationwide crackdown on underage human trafficking. fbi agents as well as 78 local and state agencies arrested a total of 1 suspects and recovered 84 minor who's officials say were caught in a cycle of terrible abuse. the fbi provided this video. the suspects in custody locally face charges of communicating with a minor with the intent to commit sex acts. 49ers rookie linebacker reuben foster says he is blessed to be okay after a frightening encounter with two young men in san francisco. they were leaving a union square club when two masked member approached them, carrying an assault rifle and a handgun.

side. so many are they know sikh community, they've been helping victims of the fires. they brought food for 2,000 people last wednesday. over the weekend they called evacuation centers and the salvation army to ask what they needed. this week each simple provided food and i'denutensils. they say they do this because their religion teaches them to help people regardless of religion or race. live doppler 7 shows he that we are socked in at the coastline and still dealing with a lot of smoke across the cabrera. with smef big changes if store and that includes rain. tomorrow afternoon evening, going into friday. so much needed rain. this will help clean the air out

and will help the firefighters. i do want to show you. the winds is beginning to pick up a little bit. 14, 15 miles an hour out of the northwest. near fire lines. so this is something we'll have to keep a close eye on. in the north bay, the winds rin creasing. clear lakers 16 miles an hour out of the same direction. the wildfires are definitely sending smoke across the bay area. you will notice how dirty the air is. air quality now, moderate across the bay area. and it is from the smoke, from the bear fires. a spare the air alert has been issued for thursday. you can see why north bay will be pretty poor. some parts still moderate. as we head toward the weekend, we will notice better air quality. especially on saturday. so some changes are coming. looking at a combination of clouds and smoke.

68 degrees. you're likely feeling it. here's the fog and the smoke combined. the camera just went out. the temperatures in the mid 60s. from our south beach camera, we're bank marine layer just rushing in. so tomorrow cooling will continue. the cold storm arrives tomorrow afternoon. spare the air and a health advisory for thursday. it is warming up against for the weekend. tomorrow morning, watch out for the fog. it will be a cool start and then for the afternoon, a cooler day than today. you're looking at 50s to the low 70s with the clouds certainly on the thicker side. as this level one storm arrives. the best chances between 8:00 p.m. and midnight for light to moderate rain. 10 to on 25 miles an hour. it is still going to be a wind coming out of the south. it switches directions.
