7 news. we'll start with the 12-hour day planner. what i want to show you here, a sneak peek, it's gone right now. the low clouds are hanging around the exploratorium. some mist and drizzle. it's definitely out there. temperatures are actually warmer than they were yesterday because of the cloud cover. 49 to about 54 degrees at 7:00. noon will be mainly gray. 57 to 62. not much of a temperature change. we'll have some sprinkles for most of us. some showers developing in the north bay at 4:00. and then all of us will be dealing with scattered showers by 7:00, 57 to 61. we'll have an hour by hour look next. here's alexis.

looking at light driving conditions as you would expect. live doppler 7 on top of our traffic maps here. not much showing up as mike not much showing up as mike explained. certainly a good chance you'll have to use your wipers. we are still moving along just fine. we have a vehicle that hit a deer in the castro valley area. >> now to the north bay fires, thousands more evacuees are back home this morning 11 days after those flames ignited. progress is being made to fully contain the fires in sonoma county. nuns fire 80% contained. tubbs at 91% containment and atlas fire in napa county is 84% contained. lilian kim shows us the focus is starting to turn towards rebuilding. >> i have this binder that has

fema to my checks. >> reporter: she is holding her future in her hands, everything related to her recovery is neatly organized and color coded. sylvia lost her coffey park home in the fire. she lived on hennessey place and is determined to live there again as soon as possible. >> i'm a single mom. i have a son. he needs to know we're going to be okay. >> reporter: the fire destroyed more than 2,800 structures. city leaders plan to cut the red tape to help people rebuild and to create more units in what was already a tight market. >> that day to rebuild the current footprint of their home to get it up as quickly as possible. >> reporter: governor jerry brown issued an executive order suspended planning and zoning requirements as well as state fees for mobile homes and parks. sylvia thinks it will be a year or two.

31,000 meals since the fire started. and when our neighbors are in need abc 7 shows up. michael finney and 7 on your side helped people affected by wildfires. about 200 people showed up looking for some advice. many wanted to know about how to get help from fema. you have 60 days to register for assistance from fema online, in person, or on the phone. >> and today michael finney will be at the assistance center at the old press democrat building. go to abc7news.com/7 on side. two community meetings will be held in sonoma county to help people impacted. working to rebuild the areas damaged or destroyed in the fires. residents for re-entering their neighborhoods. debris removal and cleanup and getting financial assistance. the first meeting will be held at 1:00 p.m. at the sonoma veterans memorial building on 1st street in sonoma and the second meeting will be held at

the santa rosa high school south gym on mendocino avenue in santa rosa. rosa. and you can go to our website abc7news.com. a san francisco police officer is in the intensive care unit after he was critically injured. after he was critically injured. on turk near vanness avenue. the injured office was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. the four-year veteran was patrolling the tenderloin when he was hit. >> everyone is obviously taking it hard. i just spoke with some of the officers from the affected station and everyone right now is having a tough time with this so i asked the public to keep the officer in their prayers. >> the suspect's name has not been released but this is video

of him being arrested. he was being investigated for a firearms violation. san francisco is paying a quarter of a million dollars for security cameras at delores park following a string of violent assaults. the latest was two weeks ago when a 17-year-old boy was assaulted and robbed by a group of 12 people. they took the boy's money, belt, and wallet before running away. the cameras will be installed in the coming week. two full-time park rangers have been assigned to the park which according to reports has reduced trash and vandalism. san francisco is making a new push to make sure people safely get rid of their unwanted, unused expired prescription drugs. a new citywide network of safe disposal kiosks. for years the city was hosting drug takeback days where residents could toss away drugs they didn't want. the key objectiiosks will provi everyday opportunity to do the same thing.

>> the warriors and alameda coliseum authority seem to be heading for a legal battle. the warriors believe they have no obligation to pay any remaining debt on their lease agreement once the team moves to san francisco. the coliseum authority claims the warriors owe $40 million for a bond debt. they have required mediation to resolve the dispute. it will go before an arbitrator if it's not resolved. the coliseum authority plans to discuss the issue tomorrow in a closed session. happening today an annual event, the great california shakeout earthquake drill. that video from an earthquake simulator, people use it to learn to withstand shaking that is pretty severe if the bay area were to be hit with an earthquake. during today's self-led drill elementary school students are encouraged to practice to drop, cover and hold on. google is hosting what it's calling the world's largest

earthquake drill today. abc 7 news reporter amy hollyfield will be live there at the top of the hour. i remember her reporting from there last year. a look from the exploratorium where we have mist and drizzle fall in most of our neighborhoods. that's the big change this morning. don't be surprised if you have one of the longer commutes from one part of the bay to another. here is your air quality and this is spare the air day. the sea breeze keeping us all good to moderate. the possibility of the fires keeping the smoke up in the north bay poor is possible as we head later into the day. take a look at temperatures, up to eight degrees warmer. ten degrees in oakland. the rest of us even napa, 14 degrees warmer. where does that put us, 50 in the financial district. the cool spot in san francisco. we have the castro, the mission, the marina, glenn park at 54, 55

at ocean beach. here is a look at the rest of our temperatures, most of us in our temperatures, most of us in the low to mid-50s this morning. mass transit cool to mild and a small craft advisory if you're going to be on the bay. storm impact scale is still one for today and tonight and then showers to rain, steady rain during the evening and overnight hours and it's going to be breezy, 15 to 30 miles an hour. hour by hour look at that and the rest of the forecast next. here's alexis. we're off to a quiet start on the roads. a new problem in the castro valley area, it does sound like a vehicle hit a deer, unfortunately, to state route 238. it's not impacting the main lanes in the area, just one lane of the off ramp. we have chp on the scene. the driver's okay. not sure about the deer, though. and a quick check outside.

pregnant widow, i should say, a mother of two, is now very much under scrutiny and abc news has the latest from washington. >> reporter: good morning. it's not just the call between the president and the grieving window under scrutiny but the new claim that he's contacted virtually every family of a fallen soldier. it's the moment the commander in chief becomes comforter in chief calling the families of fallen soldiers. president trump launched a firestorm with this false comparison. >> most of them didn't make calls. >> reporter: and now going a step further. >> i have called, i believe, everybody, but certainly i'll use the word virtually everybody. >> reporter: the associated press some families say they have not heard from this white house at all. the administration disputes that. the administration still defending its handling of the calls after the president allegedly told this grieving, pregnant widow he knew what he was signing up for but it still hurts. >> i had a very nice conversation with the woman, with the wife who sounded like a

lovely woman. did not say what the congresswoman said. >> reporter: congresswoman frederica wilson not backing down. >> he said that. >> reporter: sergeant johnson's mother confirming wilson's account saying president trump did disrespect my son and daughter and also me and my husband. as the president defends those calls, the white house is being pressed to explain what happened as the chairman of the senate armed services committee says the white house is not being up front during that ambush. it is 4:45. happening today former president barack obama is expected to hit the campaign trail for the first time since leaving the white house. he is scheduled to attend a rally for virginia's democratic gubernatorial candidate. he has mostly remained out of politics. however, he hasn't shied away from criticizing president trump and republicans when it comes to rollbacks of his signature policies. earlier this month president trump tweeted his support for

his republican opponent ed gillespie. also happening today a big day for some michael jackson fan somewhere. this screen print of the king of pop will be auctioned off. this isn't just any screen print. this was created by andy warhol. you are looking at julien's auction and the current bid is at $55,000. this screen print is expected to go for three times that amount. >> what a bargain. a flap in southern california over fried chicken. a restaurant owner in long beach has been serving up breakfast and lunch for the last four years. a new dish on the menu is called pop's chicken and waffles, sells for about $15. one customer wasn't happy to learn the chicken came from the fast food chain popeye's for a lot less. >> we didn't do anything wrong. i did something i thought was the best product i could bring in anywhere -- anywhere.

bundle up and then you'll get your warmth back over the week. a look at live doppler 7 out of seattle and portland. you can see some showers there, even moderate showers and some mountain snow for them as the cold front is now coming ashore. look at all that cold air behind that area of low pressure coming out and the freckled nature of the cloud cover. at 7:00 in the morning a lot of us with mist and drizzle. notice some scattered showers in those same areas in northern sonoma county at noon while the rest of us will be mostly cloudy. now more scattered showers across the north bay as we head into the evening commute while the rest of us will have spotty sprinkles. look at the yellow and orange and ukiah and clover dale as we head into the evening commute and that makes it down to about santa rosa by 7:00. the yellows are still there as the storm system moves through the bay area from about 7:00 to 3:00 in the morning. by 9:00 they're mainly confined

to mendocino county and as we head to noon, the rain is just about over. the clouds start to open up. i should say the chance of rain is over. the clouds start to open and you'll need those sunglasses. we have some healthy amounts of rain especially across the north. half inch possible or a third of an inch in ukiah, about a third of an inch, up to 0.2 in the bay to 0.1 in the south bay. a look at temperatures, 50s and 60s for highs friday and then look at the 70s, 80s, and even some 90s by tuesday. alexis? we will take every drop of rain we can get over the next 24 hours or so. you can't see too much of that mist or drizzle. i had my wipers on for most of my commute this morning. a little stackup in the cash lanes but that's about it, 30 minutes before they turn the metering lights on. north bay mass transit we are still looking really good here. a lot of options at this point. smart train full service and

at the golden gate bridge where you'll run into some mist and drizzle this morning. wipers will be needed for the morning commute if you're crossing the bay. we'll need umbrellas, though, if you're heading out this evening. more on the rain coming up. thanks, mike. this video out of portland crazy. a security camera caught a huge explosion yesterday. wow. authorities say it was caused by a bizarre twist of bad luck. a food truck operator was pouring diesel fuel into a generator when a gust of wind blew that fuel onto a heat source of some sort. this all happened right downtown. i used to live right down the street from this. the explosion destroyed ten nearby cars. several people were treated at the scene. somehow, and i don't know how, no one had to go to the hospital. >> that's great news no one was hurt. the list of hottest zip codes in america is out and a california city has number six. zip codes are another wayg the housing markets. and realtor.com identified
