halftime show that will be the icing on the cake. >> coming back to the super bowl halftime show for the first time since the janet jackson mishap. what he's promising this morning. and when nature calls, the french president's black lab picks the wrong time and the wrong place to interrupt his owner. good morning. i'm erielle reshef in for diane macedo. >> and i'm kendis gibson. we're going to start with the hunt for a possible serial killer in tampa. the police chief there says it's the worst nightmare. >> three killings in the last two weeks in the same neighborhood, all of them appear to be random. even a stepped up police presence couldn't prevent the most recent murder. police heard the gunshots but could not catch the killer. abc's richard cantu has details. >> reporter: they walk through a dark neighborhood in spite of the danger. neighbors and relatives of victims marching through the seminole heights section of tampa where three different people with no connection were gunned down all within two weeks and ten blocks of each other. >> i mean, this is devastating, and it's sad. >> reporter: police escorting marchers to the place where 20-year-old anthony naiboa was shot after he got off on the wrong bus stop. >> it was right here. they kill him for nothing. just for fun. like it was nothing. >> reporter: they mourned and they prayed. [ chanting [ chanting ] the first shots rang out october 9th claiming the life of 22-year-old benjamin mitchell. four days later 32-year-old monica hoffa's body was found down the street. >> i feel like there's no excuse. no one should have to go through this. >> reporter: police still searching for the killer and a motive. right now the only lead the grainy video of a person wearing a hood walking along a neighborhood street. police not even calling him a suspect but someone they'd like to speak to. >> we're in this for the long haul.

we're going to find this person. >> reporter: and warning residents not to walk alone when they leave their homes. police expected to address community fears at a meeting monday night. richard cantu, abc news, new york. a man accused of plotting to blow up a shopping mall in miami is due in court later today. authorities say vincente solano was acting alone but was inspired by isis. he allegedly planned to detonate a weapon of mass destruction. fbi agents caught solano during a sting operation and say he never had any access to real explosives. now to washington where president trump is warning republicans that if they fail to pass the sweeping tax cut, they'll pay the price in next year's midterm elections. the president joined a conference call with house republicans urging them to approve the budget passed by the senate and clear the way for those tax reforms. now, he'll travel to capitol hill tomorrow to meet republican senators. the bill promises to slash the

corporate tax rate while offering relief to the middle class. but few other details were discussed. the president is hoping to sign the bill by thanksgiving. in the meantime, congress is turning up the pressure on the trump administration. they're demanding answers about that deadly ambush on american troops in niger. >> as one of the soldiers was laid to rest, president trump intensified his attacks on the congresswoman who criticized his condolence call to that soldier's widow. abc's serena marshall has more from washington. good morning, serena. >> reporter: erielle, kendis, good morning. while sergeant johnson was laid to rest over the weekend, the political battle that started with president trump's condolence call to his family seems to just be getting started. a final kiss, a final good-bye, flags folded for his children. the 25-year-old father, husband and special forces soldier, one of four killed in niger earlier this month after an ambush by isis pledged militants. to his community he was known as the wheelie king. to america his name and his death embroiled in politics. >> i didn't know there were a thousand troops in niger. >> reporter: confusion over his

death during a mission that senior intelligence officials said was seen as so low risk, the soldiers did not use armored vehicles or have a drone overhead. >> at this point we have conflicting stories and want to be able to the full accurate story and get it right. >> reporter: the president not discussing the ambush. >> mr. president, did you authorize the mission over there? >> thank you all very much. >> reporter: on fox business network focusing on the call, congresswoman frederica wilson criticized. >> it was so nice. look, i've called many people. and i would think that every one of them appreciated it. i was very surprised to see this. >> reporter: the day after sergeant johnson was buried, the president claiming a political win tweeting, wacky congresswoman wilson is the gift that keeps on giving for the republican party. wilson, a longtime friend of the johnson family, responding. >> this is going to be trump's benghazi, trump's niger. >> reporter: while the political fight continues, johnson's family and the white house await the results of the ongoing investigation.

and johnson's widow myeshia will be on "good morning america" later this morning speaking about the soldier, father and husband she loved. kendis, erielle. >> all right, our thanks to serena there in washington. senator john mccain is taking what appears to be another veiled swipe at president trump. during a new interview about the vietnam war, mccain who spent years as a p.o.w. complained that wealthy americans dodged the draft, and mccain referred to bone spurs, the ailment that president trump says he had when he received his fifth deferment. >> one aspect of the conflict, by the way, that i will never ever countenance is that we drafted the lowest income level of america, and the highest income level found a doctor that would say that they had a bone spur. that is wrong. that is wrong. >> candidate trump famously doubted mccain's status

as a war hero because he was captured. last week mccain seemed to take a jab at the president for half-baked nationalism. the sentencing hearing for bowe bergdahl begins today at ft. bragg in north carolina. he could face life in prison after pleading guilty to endangering his comrades when he deserted his post in afghanistan. he was then captured by the taliban. well, today the judge is expected to hear dramatic testimony about soldiers who were badly injured while searching for bergdahl. >> now let's take a look at your weather on this monday morning. right now triple-digit temperatures and strong winds have most of southern california on high alert for wildfires. fire departments have increased their staffing to quickly knock down any small brush fires that may occur. red flag and excessive heat warnings will be in effect until tomorrow. meanwhile, parts of louisiana are drying out this morning after heavy rain caused flash flooding you see here. the high water hit many of the

particles. no injuries reported so far. some encouraging news from puerto rico this morning. more than a month after hurricane maria, classes are resuming at more than 100 schools on the island this week, but the recovery has been slow. power has only been restored to 20% of the island. a spokesman for bill o'reilly is slamming "the new york times" over its reporting on a $32 million sexual harassment settlement. "the times" said o'reilly settled a claim earlier this year with former legal analyst lis wiehl before he signed another contract with the network. but his spokesman accuses the newspaper of maliciously smearing o'reilly and failing to print an affidavit in which wiehl withdrew her claims. o'reilly promising to speak out against the story later on today. and hollywood is being rocked by another major sexual harassment scandal. oscar nominated director of "bugsy" james toback is accused of

sexually harassing at least 38 women. toback denies it saying for the last 22 years it has been biologically impossible because of his diabetes and heart condition. and the sexual harassment scandals have now reached wall street and one of the largest investment companies. a portfolio manager at fidelity has resigned and a prominent tech fund manager has been fired. a florida couple says that their amazon order arrived with something extra. they did receive the four large plastic storage bins they had ordered but the bins were full already. inside marijuana, 65 pounds of it all wrapped up nicely in bundles. the couple says they immediately called police fearing someone might break into their home looking for the pot. orlando police are now investigating. >> oops. we have a food safety alert this morning. coming up, the popular vegetables that are now being recalled. also ahead, classified files on the jfk assassination now being released. what we could learn.

cia knew about oswald and didn't disclose to the warren commission, the original investigating body, but never told the public over the years. >> reporter: experts say she's documents could show the cia had critical information that oswald was in mexico city and potentially dangerous seven weeks before the assassination and failed to tell anyone including the fbi when he returned. something that could be quite embarrassing for the cia. president trump has until thursday to decide if he will keep some documents classified. kenneth moton, abc news, dallas. >> our thanks to kenneth there in dallas. a vietnam veteran who saved as many as 70 lives during a secret mission will be presented with the medal of honor today. retired army captain gary rose was the only medic in a covert unit dropped into the jungle for four days. while coming under heavy fire, he use the his body as a human shield to protect members of the unit. he actually treated others while he himself was wounded. and he helped to save lives even as his helicopter was crashing.

tiffany? >> reporter: good morning, jessica. yes, the uber driver had picked up two passengers here at sfo around 11:00 last night. then he got on westbound 380 shortly after another car pulled up nearby and started shooting. the uber driver was hit in the neck and crashed just east of the el camino real exit. the two passengers were not hurt. the driver was taken to the hospital and he is expected to survive. another black car that looked somewhat similar to the uber driver's black toyota corolla was also shot multiple times. the people inside that have car ran away before police arrived at the scene. police closed westbound 380 nearly five hours during the investigation. >> obviously right now we have our investigators talking to not just the driver, when we can, but also the two passengers in there interviewing them for what they may have seen. >> reporter: chp reopened westbound 380 just before 4:00

this morning. they say the crime scene stretched nearly a mile long. at this point they have not released any information about the suspect or suspects. live at sfo, tiffany wilson, abc 7 news. thank you, tiffany. san francisco police responded to a call. an uber driver shot during an attempted robbie across from lafayette park saturday night. police have not confirmed the victim was an uber driver but there was a sticker on the back of his car. we're waiting for an update on his condition. police are looking for the driver in a hit-and-run crash that left two children in critical condition. it happened around 5:45 yesterday afternoon at turner parkway and foothill drive near the gateway plaza shopping center. both children were airlifted to a pediatric trauma center. a woman was pushing her 2-year-old son and 3-year-old daughter in a stroller with a car hit the stroller. that person then drove off and the mother was not hurt. obviously o
