now at 11:00, summer's last stand. record temperatures possible in the bay area today. a live look now from our east bay hills camera looking back at san francisco. you can see blue skies and sunshine with heat building quickly, especially inland. thanks for joining us. i'm kristen sze. temperatures have been heating up since early this morning. drone view 7 captured some new video of the sunrise over san francisco, so let's take a look. some places in the city were already in the 70s around 6:00 a.m., believe it or not. there are some areas headed into the 90s by this afternoon. with the heat, people are flocking to the coast.

abc 7 news was there as these surfers suited up in half moon bay and caught some cool waves this morning. meteorologist mike nicco is tracking this unusually hot weather. mike, the calendar says late fall but it doesn't feel like it. >> no, it doesn't, and it won't feel like it for the next couple of days. summer is probably making its last stand. this may be the last time we see the 90s for a while. here's the east bay hills camera where it was breezy all night. the breezes kept the temperatures in the hills in the 70s and got us off to a start that's going to help us rewrite history. there are the temperatures i'm forecasting for today. the asterisk would be a record high. next to those on the right, the average high temperatures and then the difference. we're 16 to 18 degrees warmer than average. san francisco, you would get to 90. that's where you need to go to set a record, at least tie it. here's a look at what happened last night at half moonbay. it gives you a r just what the . we had a north wind at 9:00 p.m.

shooting. tiffany wilson is live at the hall of justice. tiffany? >> reporter: hi there, kristen. yes, we expected testimony but jim steinle says nothing he has said is under dispute. kate's parents walked in and sat down. they called a tourist to the stand from the east coast who was on pier 14 before and during the shooting that killed kate steinle on july 1st, 2015. she testified about sitting next to a man who appeared homeless, dressed in dark clothing, who was swiveling in his chair looking at everyone who passed by, grinning and laughing to himself. she says that he made her feel uncomfortable in a way she can't quite describe. then just a moment later she heard a bang and a scream, a very sharp scream. jose garcia zerate's defense

attorney says his client does have some mental issues but that is not the defense he is using. >> mental state is a very complicated thing in the law. in this case i believe that the defensive accident is really also what happened. >> reporter: again, the jury must decide whether he intentionally or accidentally shot steinle. just as i was leaving the courtroom, lu used a photo to show exactly where she was on the pier in relation to the man in dark clothes who she identified as jose garcia zerate. she also testified that she took numerous photos from pier 14 that day and has handed all of those pictures over to police. tiffany wilson, abc 7 news. new this morning, a $5,000 reward is being offered after a 4-year-old dog was found beaten to death in fairfield. the pit bull was found in an alley behind a house on ohio and webster streets on september 28th. the animal legal defense fund, which is offering the reward,

has nicknamed the dog justice. neighbors say they saw three men standing around the dog. one of them hit the animal with a baseball bat. the men drove off in a gold suv after being spotted. the vehicle is described as a 2004 or 2005 chevy tahoe with a partial license plate of wb2v. the faa is investigating another questionable air canada incident at sfo. this time the pilots missed multiple orders to abort a landing on a flight from montreal sunday night. air traffic control gave instructions to go around, believing another plane might be in the way. in an audio recording, you can hear air traffic control telling the pilots to go around six times within 33 seconds. but the pilots never acknowledged the order. the plane landed safely around 9:30 p.m. >> 781, tower. >> yeah, air canada 781. there's a problem with the radio here. >> i think that's pretty

evident. >> i think it's pretty convincing there was a problem with the radios. whether they had accidentally switched it to another frequency. >> in a statement to abc 7 news, air canada said the flight was given proper clearance to land. the statement goes on to say, quote, upon landing, the crew was informed the tower had attempted unsuccessfully to contact the aircraft. however, the message was not received by the crew. air canada was involved in another incident at sfo back in july in that near-miss. an air canada plane came within 59 feet of crash landing into other planes at sfo. the pilot mistook the taxiway for the runway. happening now, president trump is having lunch with republican senators on capitol hill as he pushes ahead for tax reform. this is new video of mr. trump arriving on capitol hill about an hour ago. but overshadowing his lunch, an intensifying twitter feud with a republican senator, bob corker of tennessee.

abc 7 news anchor reggie aqui has more. >> a war of words between a republican president and republican senator. this morning an escalating feud between president trump and tennessee senator bob corker. it started on "good morning america" when senator corker stood by previous comments saying president trump is putting the country at risk for world war iii. >> no, george, i don't make comments that i haven't thought about. the president continues to kneecap his diplomatic representative, the secretary of state. >> reporter: corker said when it comes to north korea and tax reform, he would like president trump to leave it to the professionals. president trump quickly responding on twitter saying, among, bob corker couldn't get elected dog catcher in tennessee. senator corker firing back saying same untruths from an utterly untruthful president. #alertthedaycarestaff. corker didn't stop there. after sending that tweet, he went back in front of the camera. >> do you think he's a role

model to children in the united states? >> no. >> you don't? >> no. absolutely not. the basement of our nation will be what he'll be remembered most for. >> reporter: president trump responded. senator corker is the incompetent head of the foreign relations committee and look how poorly the u.s. has done. and the insults just kept on coming. when a reporter asked senator corker if he should have supported donald trump during the election, he said no way. reggie aqui, abc 7 news. house speaker paul ryan is weighing in, calling on president trump and senator corker to put aside their twitter dispute. he spoke a short time ago saying washington should focus on the fan fact that they have the chance to fix the tax code and create a healthier american economy. happening today, san francisco may call for president trump's impeachment. a rally is scheduled at city hall at noon in support of a resolution backed by a supervisor to call for the impeachment of the president. san francisco billionaire and environmental activist tom

steyer will be at the rally. he's launched a $10 million ad campaign urging that lawmakers begin the impeachment process against mr. trump. turning to the wildfires now, crews continue to make progress on the fire in the santa cruz mountains. the bear fire is now 85% contained. it's charred 391 acres. all evacuation orders were lifted yesterday. nine firefighters suffered injuries, many due to the steep terrain. cal fire says it expects the north bay wildfires to be fully contained by friday. take a look at this devastating view of santa rosa from drone view 7 yesterday. just block after block. the atlas fire has burned nearly 52,000 acres and is now 95% contained. the tubbs fire has burned nearly 37,000 acres and is 94% contained. and the nunns fire is 91%

new this midday a sea otter named yankee doodle got a second chance at a life in the wild. the marine mammal center has been his home the past three and a half months while he recovered from toxic poisoning. matt keller was on the beach in half moon bay when yankee doodle returned to the ocean. >> reporter: workers from the marine mammal center made their last sandy steps as the guardians of a rescued sea otter. once the gate came up on the beach next to pillar point

harbor in half moon bay, yankee doodle slo walked out, took a look around and then quickly made his way to the water. he then dipped under, popped up and looked toward the shore. >> just so he goes out gets to be a wild otter again. >> reporter: yankee doodle was given his name after he was found around the july 4th holiday at nearby mavericks beach. the southern sea otter was spotted rubbing his belly rather than playing among is it the kelp. he was diagnosed with toxoplasmosis. three and a half months of rehab later, yankee doodle was feeling dandy enough for the wild. >> spectacular, really good. as well as it could possibly go. >> it's such a relief to see him get back out in the wild. when he rescued him just right down the road here he was in really poor condition. to see him healthy again and go out and act like a normal healthy otter is so exciting for us. >> reporter: two trackers are inside his belly. one is a radio transmitter so

to hot pattern that's going to hold through at least wednesday or tomorrow. clear sky tonight. i don't think it will be quite as breezy as last night so it should allow the temperatures to cool just a little bit more. rain and autumn chill is just nowhere to be found in the extended forecast. what we're seeing is a very progressive jetstream. the yellow arrows are the storm track. it goes way up into canada, taking all that cold air and depositing it in the eastern two-thirds of the country. in fact the high temperatures today in minneapolis, chicago, st. louis, atlanta, fargo, denver, all of those, are colder than our lows were this morning. these are their highs. in fact we had a little snow up around the u.p. of michigan earlier this morning. so let's take a look at our microclimates. look at the asterisk, that's tying or setting the record high of 91 in san jose. look at morgan hill and gilroy, 95. santa cruz, we showed you the beautiful picture, 92 grodegrees the high there.

90 in redwood city. near 90 in half moon bay today, 86 in pacifica. low 80s around the sunset and towards daly city but mid to up 80s for south san francisco and downtown san francisco. upper 80s around san rafael and vallejo. 90 to 94 as you go through the north bay all the way up to about clear lake, it's 92. 88 in oakland and san leandro. 90 in hayward, castro valley, orinda and fremont. inland, 90 to 93 degrees here. let's see how the day breaks down. are you thinking about going out for lunch today? make sure you're ready for low to mid-80s everywhere, even the coast. mid-80s at the coast. upper 80s around the bay. 90s inland at 4:00 and we should start to see some record high temperatures coming 8:00 still in the mid-70s. about ten degrees cooler than this morning. my accuweather seven-day

forecast, we'll make another run at some records tomorrow but it will definitely be cooler at the coast. some of that cooling will take a few degrees out of our temperatures thursday into friday and slowly into saturday and then we'll start to get an onshore breeze sunday and monday and bring us back into the 50s, 60s and 70s. looks like it's going to be dry all throughout. now your morning money report. the bid to get amazon to build its second u.s. headquarters in san jose comes with one big concern. traffic as well, but housing prices. san jose already has some of the fastest rising rents in the country. expect that to get much worse if the city lands the amazon deal. according to the business journal, san jose could experience severe rent growth and it could add up to $30,000 in rent hikes over the next ten years for individual households. amazon is expected to reveal the home of its new headquarters next year. now, if you play the mega millions lottery, get ready for big changes. starting saturday the game will be more expensive, have bigger
