now twice this year, an air canada jetliner has been involved in what could have been potentially disaster ow. >> vic lee joins us with what happened on sunday. >> the ntsb first of all is still investigating the july incident with air canada. that final report has yet to be completed. now the faa is investigating sunday night's incident here. >> this was the second time air canada was involved in a potentially serious incident. in july, one of the planes came within 59 feet of crash landing into others plane. the pilot mistakenly thought the. at ay, the taxally way was a runway. the plane was on approach to land when air traffic control believed another plane was on the run way. >> go around. >> air traffic control repeated

the instructions to go around six times. the pilot did not respond. the tower operator then activated a flashing red light to alert the crew. >> the light is very bright. hand held by the tower operator. usually brings it down out of the ceiling. aims it directly at the cockpit of the airplane. >> he is a retired pilot who has thrown for three decades. >> the lights are so bright and so effective that they're very difficult to miss. >> fortunately the air canada jet landed safely. but the crew never acknowledged the tower's radio orders or the lights. >> that's pretty evident. >> the question now, what happened? air canada issued a statement which said in part, upon landing the crew was informed tower had attempted unsuccessfully to dookt aircraft. however, the message was not received by the crew. a broken radio maybe?

>> it is almost impossible for me to comprehend a radio failure going on that long in our modern environment with modern radios. >> well, as remote as that may be, the radio could have been broken. but that still doesn't explain why the pilot did not see those very bright flashing red lights which the tower was aiming at the cockpit. so there are some serious questions that need to be answered. abc7 news. >> thank you. turning to the devastating bay area wildfires, we begin with the fire in the santa cruz mountains where full containment is expected by thursday. the fires burned nearly 400 acres. 85% contained. all evacuations have not been lifted. nine firefighters have been injured. all but one are now back on the job. >> we do have some good news about the wildfires in napa county. an hour ago, all evacuation orders and road closures were

lifted. now despite the heat, firefighters are making progress in the north bay. the largest most destructive fire in history, the tubbs fire is now 96% contained. the ninth most december drug i have the fire, the atlas fire, 95%. containment is expected friday. u.s. congressman mike thompson led a motel of silence at the u.s. capitol to only had fire victims. his district covers the hardest hit areas in sonoma and napa counties. others surrounded him on the remember ranls. >> drone view 7 has been given special permission to fly over the burn areas. >> now abc7 news anchor kristen is here to show us some of the before and after videos. >> producers have been flying all over the area in the past

shooting and killing him. he then pointed the handgun at a neighbor but the gun misfired. they said he went in the house, grabbed a shotgun, jumped into his suv and took off. stopped at a neighbor's house. made shots at that house. a woman was hurt when she jumped out of a window. then he went to the hole of a former employer and opened fire. nobody was home. minutes later he shot and killed his neighbor richard braden who was in his vehicle. he was finally captured at a roadblock and he gave up. investigators say a motive for this spree remains unknown. >> tefrt in the trial of the man who killed kate steinle.
