you'd better have a ticket. b.a.r.t. will be cracking down on fare evaders. the board of directors approved it last night. here is the deal, once you're within b.a.r.t.'s paid areas and on trains you have to have proof of payment, either a valid ticket or clipper card. b.a.r.t. police officers and community service officers will be the ones doing the asking. if you don't have it, the first few times it's a $75 fine for adults and $55 for minors. you get more than two citations within a year, it becomes a criminal citation fine. not to exceed $250. b.a.r.t. estimates fare evaders cost $15 million to $25 million a year. the community service option will be available for juveniles and adults depending on the income level. enforcement starts on january 1st. reporting live at the warm springs b.a.r.t. station, matt keller, abc 7 news. thank you, matt. it's 4:30. let's get you a quick update on your weather and traffic. we start with mike. hi, mike. hi, guys. just checking out what was going on at the golden gate bridge,

sue and i were. it's getting pretty foggy over there. i'll show that you in one second. a look at what's going on with your 12-hour day planner. once i get it pulled up here you'll see the fog will stick at the coast and there it is, the golden gate bridge. look at how foggy it is right there. let's take a look at what's going on as far as your temperatures, 52 to 59. notice the coast staying in the 60s to near 70 at some point. so definitely the change is beginning and it begins at the coast. 75 to 81 around the bay. not as warm as yesterday. 80 to 87 inland. almost as warm as yesterday. if you're heading out this evening take a coat. at the coast 59. the rest of us 71 to 75. a look at the cooling trend and chance of rain next week up next. here's sue. all right. looks like limited visibility on the golden gate bridge. the interesting thing i came across about an hour ago, no fog at all. it was completely clear. it's come in, as mike said. bay bridge toll plaza, the cash paying lanes slow and go there

on the right and left-hand sides. no metering lights yet. we go north to san rafael. no fog here. this is past the north gate mall up past the sick centcivic cent. you're looking at about a 22-minute drive. some debris on the altamont pass. we'll check on that in a few. >> thank you, sue. the santa cruz sheriff's department will release information about a possible arrest in the bear fire. >> the sheriff's office is preparing to arrest the person believed to have started it. first responders immediately knew the fire was suspicious. the agency announced the bear fire to be fully contained now. it burned just under 400 acres near the town of boulder creek. a wildfire that destroyed four homes is fully contained. cal fire put out the bear fire in less than ten days, burned nearly 400 acres as we mentioned near the town of boulder creek. the santa cruz -- we're having some technical issues.

shall we move on? >> we'll move on to full containment on the fires burning in napa and sonoma counties. the latest report has the nuns fire 94% contained. the atlas fire at 98% containment. the tubbs fire, which burned between calistoga and santa rosa burned so many homes is now 95% contained and the pocket fire near geyserville 94% contained. okay, reggie, speaking of fires, there's a big fire happening in southern california right now that crews are still battling. it's about 350 acres and the "l.a. times" is reporting that an 18-year-old motorcyclist actually crashed into a tree which sparked the fire. it happened yesterday afternoon. it's burning in the cleveland national forest which is located just northeast of the city of san diego. the motorcyclist had only minor injuries. there is a handful right now of homes evacuated in riverside county. >> it's a little unnerving.

you have to respect all the fires happening in napa and all around. there's so much that's been going on lately. so keeping that in mind, how fast that went through. we're not being dumb but we don't want to be over panicked at the same time. >> absolutely a lot of fires in our state this fire season. and right now this one is only 15% contained. natasha? >> jessica, thank you. testimony is set to resume monday in the trial after man charged with the murder of kate steinle. the federal park ranger whose stolen gun killed her took the stand yesterday. he said he felt it was safe to leave a backpack containing the had dinner. someone stole the backpack along with clothing. defense attorneys claim the gun went off accidentally after suspect jose ines garcia zarate found it wrapped in cloth. they say he fired it intentionally. this morning a father is in jail facing several charges after his 8-year-old brought a loaded gun to school.

>> reporter: police arrested anthony o'donnell at his home. the father of five is charged with child endanger many, possession of stolen property, and allowing a firearm to be accessible to a child. police say his son brought a gun to twin creeks elementary school. according to the district on tuesday an 8-year-old brought a loaded gun to school in his backpack. he showed a friend, and that night that classmate told his parents. a few hours later the police were knocking on the suspect's door. >> the parents should be responsible. the kids should not have had access to a gun. >> i find them very good people. eye never seen anything happen. always well-behaved kids. >> reporter: this community is shocked and scared by what's happened. many have lived side-by-side with the o'donnells for years. on a typical night o'donnell's son would be out here playing with these kids. the family's third-floor

apartment is dark and the boy's friends admit they're conflicted right now. >> i don't think i'll play with him. >> i'm not sure why they did that. i think it's a bad thing because they could have hurt somebody. >> reporter: bail for anthony o'donnell is set at $140,000 n. san ramone, lisa amin gulesian. the golden gate bridge board sausalito ferry. a committee voted to approve construction. the plan stands now reconstruction would include a six-foot-tall rail along the walk down to board. it will be widened to 12 feet, more than twice its current width. many of cars in the new express lanes in contra costa county shouldn't be there. the transportation commission says% of the people driving don't have the required fastrak

transponder. violators will be notified by mail. >> when motorists are using the lanes if they don't have fastrak they will not receive a violation penalty for the first couple of weeks. when the notice comes they'll be invoiced for the toll amount only. >> the lanes opened three weeks ago between walnut creek and san ramone. they say overall the lanes are working like they thought they would with traffic in them moving faster than in the mix flow lanes. tomorrow morning caltrain will bring down two more support piers left over from the old bay bridge this is video from the last implosion two weeks ago no cars will be allowed on the bridge for about 30 minutes during the blasting period around 9:30 in the morning. one last implosion is scheduled in two weeks to bring down the final three piers. it is almost over. >> at some point we're not going to have to do the story anymore. i look forward to that.

all right. let's start with temperatures and we'll start in san francisco where it continues to get cooler. maybe your house, your apartment, your condo will lag behind the outside temperatures that will hold the heat a lot easier. 54 in lake merced and ocean beach. crissy field, bayview and sunny side at 55. the mission is at 57. marina, 59. castro and west portal 60. here is a look from mt. tam. the clouds have not made it east of the golden gate bridge yet. we'll keep an eye on that. that's a sign the weather pattern is finally start to go change. on the roads watch out for the fog near the coast and golden gate in the morning. mass transit cool this morning but warm this afternoon. this will be our last calm day on the bay water. let's take a look at temperatures. we'll start in the east bay where it's still going to be a little toasty. average high 75. at noon 79. 85 at 2:00. 88 at 4:00. still 83 at 6:00.

from our live desk defense secretary james mattis traveled to the demilitarized zone that separates north and south korea this morning and accused president kim jong-un of threatening catastrophe and at the dmz mattis looked into north korea and saw soldiers and western tourists staring back. mat stis is emphasizing the pus for a diplomatic solution with pyongyang, but he's also said the u.s. is prepared to take military action if the north does not halt its development of missiles that could strike the mainland united states. president trump will visit south

punching someone and barreling into the victim with his car. a photo of the man taken on ashby avenue last thursday. he drove a mercedes sedan with paper plates from a dealership. police tell us the victim was riding in another car and yelled at the suspect about his erratic driving. this map shows you where their dispute turned violent on ashby avenue near the berkeley branch at summit medical center. two american women stuck at sea more than five months. this week they finally spotted salvation. a u.s. navy ship was their way. >> reporter: for months jennifer appel, tasha fuiava, and their dogs were alone drifting in the massive pacific ocean after their sailboat engine broke around memorial day. they had set sail from honolulu in the spring headed for at tta. they drifted to a completely different part of the world they were hit by three massive storms

and survived two shark attacks. >> both of them, we actually thought it was lights out, and they were horrific. >> reporter: jennifer says in one attack seven tiger sharks came at night slapping their tails against the boat. the women kept using their marine radio to call for help, but there were no ships within range until this week when a fishing boat heard their distress calls and the "uss ashland" was sent to pick them up. >> how are you doing? >> reporter: as a small navy boat approaches, you can see the pure joy, clapping, huge smiles, even the dogs seem excited. they survived thanks to having water purifiers onboard and oatmeal, pasta and rice. as they climbed onboard the ashland, tasha smiles here ear. jennifer describes the moment they finally realized they were safe. >> it was actually quite mind
