>> announcer: good morning bay area. let's get up and get going. this is "abc 7 mornings." it's saturday, october 28th. good morning and thanks so much for being here. i'm chris nguyen. let's start with a first look at the forecast. meteorologist lisa argen is tracking live doppler 7 for us. hi, lisa. >> hey, chris, good morning to you. it's been warm and dry, no reason to change that yet, right? well, we'll have some subtle changes over the aluma not repo visibility. the golden gate bridge, a dense fog advisory in the city, along the coast, until 9:00. 57 in san jose, 47 in gilroy. no delays yet at sfo. you can see the ribbon of fog there with 40s at the north bay, 50 at livermore.

sea breeze comes back into play. we still have 80s, four degrees cooler than yesterday, still above average. today is the last day of that. we'll talk rain in my seven-day outlook, coming up, chris. >> lisa, thank you. this morning, investigators in san jose are trying to determine what sparked a large fire in the foothills. it burned several structures and vehicles. we brought you live coverage yesterday. abc 7 news reporter katie marzullo has the update. >> we've got hoses connected to each other. >> reporter: neighbors on ruby place weren't taking any chances. will nguyen and his dad worked side by side. >> we have to do something. this right now is my house. >> reporter: the fire erupted on pleasant acres drive just after 4:00 p.m. a san jose fire captain said it started in a trailer and spread to other structures and vehicles on the property. >> they had several propane tanks that were fueling the fire and causing it to get larger. >> reporter: firefighters also had a problem getting close to the fire. as you can see from this google map progression dating to 2003,

the property had become crammed with old cars and other items. >> all of the stuff and debris on the property made it really difficult to access the fire. trying to maneuver the hoses around all of the stuff. >> reporter: the property owner told abc 7 news he used the location for storage. it's unclear if anyone was living there. the fire was a threat to other homes and a neighboring mosque. >> that was the time when, afternoon, everybody was here. when they smelled the smoke and fire, they came running and hooked up hoses. >> reporter: the fire did not spread beyond the original property. but people were advised to shelter in place and close their windows because of smoke. arson investigators are working to determine the cause of fire. in san jose, katie marzullo, abc 7 news. in san francisco, gunfire sent four people to the hospital and police are for you looking to see if anyone else was injured. someone shot them on fillmore street and golden gate avenue just before 7:30 last night sfp

station. officers ran to the scene after hearing gunshots. they detained two people. the injuries were not life-threatening. b.a.r.t. police need your help to find a man suspected of painting offensive graffiti around the system. b.a.r.t.'s surveillance cameras captured images of the vandal. he had a scooter with him, as you can see. investigators believe he's responsible for hateful slurs and symbols that appeared on board trains and inside at least four stations. it has happened again. a gun turned up at a local school for the fifth time this week. san jose police arrested a 12-year-old boy after officers say he waved the gun at another boy at chaboya middle school on thursday. you can see on this map where students brought guns to school or firearms were found on campus since monday. milpitas high school went on lockdown twice on thursday. parents and students at a napa school are outraged after a popular principal was fired. as abc 7 news reporter katie utehs explains why the protests last night are just the

beginning. >> reporter: from fliers on cars to protesting, students and parents at justin siena high school in napa want answers following the unexpected firing of their principal. >> we want him back. and we just want justice in the system that seems so corrupt at the moment. >> reporter: principal john bordelon was fired a week ago. his attorney says with no explanation. >> there's only one person that knows, the individual that has the power to fire him, and that's robert jordon. >> reporter: robert jordon is the school president and has the authority to fire anyone at the private institution. they're all at-will employees. the new principal, brother christopher brady, spoke on behalf of the school. >> i'm not sure they can be informed, because it is a personnel matter, about the reason why. law prevents the president from speaking about personnel issues. >> reporter: are there allegations of misconduct or impropriety or even criminal allegations? >> none. none whatsoever. >> reporter: the parents are

incredibly organized. within the last week they put together this binder full of messages to the board of trustees. they're threatening to withhold private funding and even pull students. >> i can't send my kids here. i can't do it. >> reporter: a gofundme page has raised $66,000 to support bordelon and his family. in napa, katie utehs, abc 7 news. firefighters are closing in on controlling all four of the major north bay wildfires. right now the atlas fire in napa and solano counties is 100% contained. the tubbs, nuns, and pocket fires are 96% contained with full containment expected on tuesday. new details on schools affected by the north bay wildfires. "the press democrat" reports two schools in santa rosa are closed indefinitely. the schools are located in the middle of the devastation. workers must clean up toxic

waste before the schools reopen. there's no timeline yet for when that will happen. students have since been moved to other nearby schools. abc 7 news was at piner high school in santa rosa where students were back in class yesterday. 13 schools reopened yesterday morning. piner's principal said they won't return to their old curriculum. instead they'll be eased back into learning. the schools are expected to reopen on monday. sonoma county was hit hard by the fires. but one community is using a little halloween spirit and a lot of determination to help rebuild and grow stronger. abc 7 news anchor dion lim has more. >> reporter: this is the ninth year for blind scream at haunted park. but this year holds special meaning for this community. as you walk through the haunted hallways, yes, there will be screams, scares, and terror. but nothing compared to the real

terror of the north bay fires. >> it looked like hell was erupting from the hills, growing orange, red, smoke everywhere. >> reporter: the blazes broke out, directly affecting so many of the actors, volunteers, and workers that make this haunted house possible. >> so many families we know have lost their homes. it was really hard for us to know how to move forward. we decided it was very important for us to try to keep some sort of normal holiday traditions alive. >> reporter: so, as the saying goes, the show must go on. this spooky show acting as an escape, not just for the actors, but for the guests as well. >> it's good to do something fun. >> reporter: part of the ticket proceeds are going to the north bay relief fund to help rebuilding. already using fake blood, costumes, and a surprise flash mob. this community is already rising from the ashes. >> i'm not dion lim, because i

a san francisco police officer seriously injured while on bicycle patrol is getting better. abc 7 news has confirmed that the officer opened his eyes yesterday and appears to be responding to his wife's voice. a man who goes by the name of willie flanigan is accused of running the officer down with a suv last week. the officer is in intensive care and still has a long way to go in his recovery. tickets went on sale for a concert that will benefit north bay wildfire victims. ♪ metallica, the dave matthews band and hip home artist g-easy will perform at at&t park. 100% of ticket sales will go to a relief fund for low income residents impacted by the fire. tickets are available now and start at $70. a day of remembrance will be

held today at 11:00 a.m. at santa rosa college to remember those who died in the fires and celebrate community heroes. santa rosa is 70 miles away from walnut creek but fire victims are looking for places to rent and buy. >> we've had some who are smoked out and scared out who want to buy right now. >> reporter: some aren't waiting for things to settle out with their insurance companies. if they have enough for a down payment, they're pursuing what little is for sale. this napa resident works in a walnut creek escrow office. >> a couple i know is coming here from santa rosa, they basically had the clothes on their back. we're coming in, and now they're putting in offers in this area and hopefully they'll be finding one soon and we'll be doing escrows for them.

>> reporter: at this retirement community in walnut creek, every day they see families scouting for housing. realtors say their number one priority, shopping for fire safe homes in fire safe locations. it's tough. this survivor of the 1991 oakland hills fire drafted up a list of advice which she titled "if i knew then what i know now." >> negotiate with your insurance company. make sure you can walk away with what you're due with them. take your time in making that decision. maybe you rent a house for a while and decide whether you really want to go back or not. >> they usually come here looking for a rental. we don't have many rentals here and they often switch over and decide to buy. they just don't want to go back. >> reporter: leslie brinkley, abc 7 news. the final game of the regular season for the san

francisco deltas kicks off tonight at kezar stadium. all tickets sales go to help undocumented immigrants who do not get support from fema. local firefighters can go to the game for free. drone view 7 was up early yesterday morning to catch an amazing view of the napa valley. we tagged along on this hot air balloon ride because we wanted to show you how beautiful napa can be this time of year. despite being hit by fires, the vast majority of the valley is open for business. abc 7 news anchor kristen sze has more. >> reporter: before the sun crested over the napa valley, drone view 7 spotted light. hot air balloons getting ready for tours across the wine growing region. >> it's the best way to see napa valley, from the air it's absolutely spectacular. >> reporter: as you can see, napa looks mostly like it always has. but the widely publicized fires have put a dent in tourism. >> yeah, we've noticed a little bit of a drop-off.

talking o guests from outside the area that have talked to family and friends, and everybody's trying to convince them not to go to napa. >> reporter: drone view 7 was over the silverado country club earlier this week. it was one of the hillside communities hit hardest by the fires. although the fires damaged a handful of wineries, the vast majority of the napa valley is untouched. >> i thought it was absolutely beautiful. the valley is clear. the weather is perfect. you can see for miles. >> reporter: mimi mclaughlin was watching news reports carefully but decided to keep her plans to visit napa. >> there is a certain guilt i think as a tourist you feel coming to a place that has been so hard hit by a tragedy. but i think right now what they need is the tourism. >> reporter: locals like mackenzie magro agree. >> we need the tourists to come back out here. it's gorgeous, get out here. the air is clear. come back and support us. if you can do anything, come back and support the industry. >> you can visit the napa valley, have a wonderful time, and really not know there was a

fire. >> reporter: kristen sze, abc 7 news. in santa cruz county, a suspect is in custody accused of starting the bear fire over a dispute. 54-year-old marlon coy was arrested on october 17th, one day after the fire started, but not for arson. officers say he stole jewelry from an evacuated home. the bear fire burned 400 acres, destroyed two homes and injured 13 firefighters. drone view 7 shows the burned out area in boulder creek where investigators believe it started. three witnesses say that they saw coy starting the fire, which is now 100% contained. >> they witnessed marlon coy lighting this fire, a fire which spread, became bigger, and caused what we are now calling the bear fire. >> coy faces five felony counts in connection with the fire and nine felonies in connection with the burglary. happening now, a splash of

color to your morning jog. the color run hits alameda this morning. runners are taking their marks at alameda point. they'll be showered with colored powder during the 5k run. this year's event benefits the diabetes association. runners had to register in advance. watch out for sneaker waves in monterey bay. those waves can pull you out into the water. the national weather service says there will be smaller waves for long periods of time, then suddenly 15 to 20-foot shore breaks. once pulled into the water, the person would also face increased risk of rip currents right now. the warning lasts until tomorrow night. if you've been outside or looking out your window, you've noticed the changes, maybe felt them with the cooler weather, seen them with the fog. live doppler 7 right now painting the picture of a big change coming this weekend. we're looking at dense fog for another hour or so from the

national weather service in the city. you can see visibility to the north has been restricted along the coast. we've got a sea breeze intact which will bring temperatures down about 12 degrees today in the city. you were at 80 yesterday, 82 at sfo. no delays at sfo despite -- well, actually there's not that much fog there. more of it is in the north bay. 52 in the city as well as half moon bay. 57 in san jose. the cooldown begins today. it's subtle, it's more dramatic tomorrow, but it looks dramatic here from mt. tam. 43 in the north bay, santa rosa. 53 by the delta. we'll still have numbers above average, even 80s in our inland east bay, down about five degrees from yesterday. the dense fog advisory right along the coast for another hour or so. the cooling continues. spook-tacular for halloween, with temperatures very comfortable. then a wet weather pattern arrives perhaps thursday night into friday, maybe lasting until saturday. highs today comfortable, we're back into the obvio60s, even up

50s at the coast. still warm inland. by tomorrow, that retreats. even the sacramento valley is cooling down. we've got the green representing much cooler weather, just 70s in our inland east bay. the autumn chill arrives on monday, temperatures below average. we bring in our storm impact scale beyond that. this would be friday, chance of rain, breezy at times. and preliminary estimates are looking pretty significant for parts of the bay area but really way too soon to give you some numbers on that. by friday morning, friday night, it's been raining in the north bay into saturday, pushes on south. it's also going to be in the sierra nevada. the rain changing to snow. if you have any plans next weekend, you may want to rethink that for the mountains. 72 today in oakland. 78 in fremont. yesterday we had low to mid-80s on the peninsula today. how about mid- and upper 70s, still some 80s towards santa rosa, our inland east bay. we're looking at temperatures to be comfortable here in san jose today for the day of the dead with temperatures in the low 80s.

street journal" report charges have been filed which a grand jury approved. former fbi director robert mueller is leading the probe to find out if the trump campaign teamed up with russia to interfere with the election and if the president tried to obstruct the investigation. abc news reporter gloria riviera has a look at the charges. >> reporter: president trump has long dismissed the russia probe as a political distraction. >> it was an excuse for the democrats losing the election. >> reporter: that message continues to the party line at the white house. >> our position hasn't changed since day one. and i think we are seeing now that if there was any collusion with russia, it was between the dnc and the clintons and certainly not our campaign. >> reporter: questions are mounting over separate reports by cnn and "the wall street journal," saying the first criminal charges have been filed in independent counsel bob mueller's investigation into the

trump campaign's alleged ties to the russian government. the indictments are reportedly still sealed under orders from a federal judge. abc news has not independently matched that reporting. the news comes at a time when we're learning more about who was behind that infamous intelligence dossier, allegin ties between trump and the russians. the conservative website "the washington free beacon" said friday it originally hired the research firm fusion gps to provide research on multiple candidates but insists it did not pay for the dossier and did not have any dealings with the former british intelligence officer who ultimately produced the dossier, citing russian sources. >> it might have started with the republicans early on in the primaries. i think i would know. but let's find out who it is. i'm sure that will come out. >> reporter: do you know who those republicans are? >> i think -- i think i would have, if i were to guess, i have one name in mind. >> reporter: gloria riviera, abc news, washington. major league baseball may

discipline a houston astros player for making a racist gesture during the world series. yuli gurriel used his hands to stretch out his darvish who is from japan. yuli gurriel later apologized. bust errolny said what he did with a clear precedent for suspension. more controversy for the nfl. houston texans owner bob mcnair was quoted saying that "the inmates are running the prison" at an owners' meeting while talking about player demonstrations during the national anthem. he later apologized, saying service just a figure of speech. ten players left the facility

>> he said, did you bring your kneepads? i do think he was joking. but it was shocking that he would make that joke to a colleague. >> reporter: a recent survey found that 40% of female congressional staffers cite sexual harassment as a problem on capitol hill. one in six female aides said though experienced sexual harassment in their offices. unlike many workplaces, on the hill there is no mandatory sexual harassment training. to file a complaint, victims must go through counseling, mediation and a cooling off period before filing a legal claim. all while working in the very same environment where the alleged harassment took place. allegations of workplace sexual abuse that have rocked hollywood and politics are also hitting home in the world of journalism. this morning, political analyst mark halperin is apologizing after allegations of sexual harassment when he was political director here at abc news.

in a lengthy statement, halperin apologized to the women he mistreated, admitting his behavior caused fear and anxiety for women who were only seeking to do their jobs. david wright, abc news, washington. today's the day to check your medicine cabinets for old prescription drugs and make sure they don't end up in the wrong hands. it's national prescription drug takeback day. many bay area law enforcement and fire agencies are taking part from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. president trump has declared opioid use a public health emergency. officials at oakland tech have been reprimanded for allowing one of its famed alumni to practice with the school's football team. the raiders' marshawn lynch posted this video on instagram wednesday, showing him practicing with the varsity squad. while the kids and lynch enjoyed themselves, state rules actually prohibit anyone other than

today. and it's all due to that onshore push, the low clouds, the fog, and a dominant area of high pressure moving away. with live doppler 7s right now, you can see the visibility reduced through half moon bay, through mountain view, emeryville. in the north bay, particularly foggy out there. that's why we had a dense fog advisory through 9:00 from the national weather service. pretty picture here, that looks more like it for the bay area. 52 in san francisco, oakland. 50 in gilroy. 52 on the coast. from sfo, no delays. the fog is still being impacted by that strong ridge of high pressure pushing down on top of it. so that's why it is confined to just a couple of hundred feet there. 46 in novato. 51 in livermore. finally from our last stop here it looks very sunny from mt. tam. the fog, the cooling, spook-tacular for halloween with temperatures very comfortable and a wet pattern late next week. that's when we bring in our
