. fights, theft and chaos nearly shut down a popular theme park. the stepped up security tonight to ensure a happy and safe halloween. good evening, everybody, i'm dion lim. >> i'm eric thomas. we're talking about cell that almost shut down the theme park. >> we're joined from great america where there are even more police. >> reporter: halloween haunt goes on for a couple more hours, but so far so good. no sign of the types of problems that arose last night. hall haunt appears to be as popular as ever. last night around 10:45 p.m.,

police received reports of fights, one captured on video by a park guest. they also received reports of cell phone thets. one victim was told by an officer, there were as many as 50 phones stolen. >> it was really rowdy. >> reporter: she had been wanting to go with her friends, but her mom wouldn't let her, fearing just the kind of thing that happened last night. >> i've heard this kind of stuff happens too much. i'm just too cord about that. so, i made them go to the pumpkin fest today during the day, when it's much safer. >> reporter: santa clara police say ten officers were called in to help. in the end, they made only two arrests. they believe most of the perpetrators knew each other. there were about 100 and had scattered by the time officers arrived. investigators are reviewing security video. parents who drove their kids tonight, were comforted more police officers were called in to work. pete gave his son advice.

>> remain aware and keep close to his friends and know where the authorities are if you had to, you know, report anything. >> reporter: great america issued only a brief statement that said in part, quote, the safety 6 our guests are our top priority. abc7 news. the tubbs, nun and pocket fires are all 98% contained tonight. cal fire expects 100% containment this week. there's new arrests of a man and woman accused of looting last night. his name is jonathan leon lee conner from monterey cand was using someone's i.d. he and christina mavr marsh stole a flat-screen tv and then stole a pickup truck. tonight police are searching for a gunman who killed a man in discovery bay. it happened in a residential

area on wilde drive. abc7 news reporter cornell bernard has our story. >> it's shocking. our heart goes out to that young family. >> reporter: neighbors are sundayed by a violent crime in their quiet neighborhood. friends take flowers and food to the home of a grieving family. a 48-year-old husband and father gunned down early sunday. >> we heard. it was like boom, boom, boom, boom. like, right after -- like, it was -- >> reporter: how many shots? >> five. >> reporter: ryan holtz heard the gunshots. >> then we heard them leaving. >> the victim appears to be someone walking around his own neighborhood. >> reporter: police say the man was shot multiple times on wilde drive. a group of men and one woman in their late teens or early 20s were riding through the neighborhood in two cars. a disturbance over speeding may have led to a confrontation with one of the drivers. >> from what i heard is the gentleman had thrown a cup of ice at him and said, slow down, but they so happened to make

around around the block and came back and shot him. >> reporter: the victim died at the scene. melissa saw two cars way from the shooting. >> i saw a silver sports car with its lights on, following it was a red sports with its lights off. >> reporter: the sheriff's department confirms looking for a newer gray dodge challenger or ford mustang and red mitsubishi eclipse. >> we've lost a great sense of security and tranquility here. this is very shattering to all of us. >> the sad part is he wasn't in the wrong, you know, as far as telling people to slow down because there are -- people do fly through here. >> reporter: police reviewing video of the shooting possibly captured by home security cameras. in discovery bay, cornell bernard, abc7 news. kevin spacey is not only apologizing for a decade's old accusation of sexual harassment, he also came out as being gay. anthony rapp made the accusation

in an interview with buzzfeed, saying spacey made an inappropriate sexual advance to him in 1986 where at the time rapp was just 14 years old and spacey was 26. spacey says he doesn't remember that incident but in a tweet, spacey did apologize saying if he did behave in the way rapp has described, spacey went on to explain that he is currently living as a after having relationships in the past with both men and women snup oakland a's catcher bruce maxwell is out of an arizona jail after accused of pointing a gun at a woman who was delivering food to his home. the video just in showing maxwell walking out of jail tonight. a reporter asked him to explain what happened, he said no comment. earlier today he faced a judge on aggravated assault with a deadly weapons charge. the judge ruled he could be released on $2,000 bond and stay away from all weapons and undergo alcohol testing. police did not say what caused him to pull the weapon. he made headlines last month

wen he became the first and only major league baseball player to kneel during the national anthem. the a's team says they're disappointed to learn of the allegations and gathering information from the proper authorities before making further comment. most members of a houston texans knelt when the national anthem was played before today's game against the seattle seahawks. the texans' display of solidarity was played after bob nair made a statement, saying, quote, we can't have the inmates running to prison. we may learn tomorrow morning the first dpiment in robert mueller's investigation into russian meddling in last year's presidential election. at least one arrest is expected. abc news tells us more. >> reporter: sources tell abc news we may see the first arrest as soon as monday in the criminal investigation led by

hundreds of people get a chance to enjoy one family's halloween tradition but this year they needed a little cheering up. >> alyssa harrington joins from el . >> reporter: this isn't just a regular halloween display. every piece is handmade from scratch. the woman that lives here was very upset when she walked outside and found one of her favorite decorations had been stolen. rhonda rogers' hallowee display is an annual tradition that attracting hundreds of trick or treaters. but this year something's missing. this hole is where the centerpiece -- >> it was half size a normal coffin. >> reporter: a wooden coffin with a monster hanging out used to be. >> stood up to here. >> reporter: someone stole it.

>> it's wrong. someone took grave robbing to a higher extent. >> reporter: rhonda says it was the best part of the display, something she spent hours on. all the decorations in her front yard from the grave stones to the ghouls are handmade. >> it makes you mad and more than anything it hurts our feelings because we do this for everybody out here. and it just takes some punk to kind of ruin it. ruin the spirit. >> reporter: the coffin disappeared some time over the weekend. rhonda says the thief also tried to steal her spooky tree, but it's wired into the ground. now days before halloween, some friends, including brian sanders, got together and build and paint a new coffin. >> this isn't easy. >> reporter: he does not understand why someone would steal from them. maybe it was a prank. even though they fixed the display, he hopes the grave robbers, so to speak, returns the original coffin.

>> it would be nice if someone return it to us. >> reporter: abc7 news. >> if you needed a good pre-halloween scare, this was the place to be. >> abc7 news was in alameda for the last day of the rec and parks teen annual haunted house. middle and high school students put together a frightening version of a school with scary surprises around every corner. this is the 14th year for the event. all of the money raised goes to alameda youth committee and rec and parks teen programs. one of the east bay's greatest homegrown athletes spoke publicly today for the first time since abruptly retiring. abc7 news was inside hayward mall when andre ward signed autographs. he described how he's staying in boxing without getting back into the ring. >> to a lot of guys, my none is

always open and available for them. that's probably as far as i'm going to get to a boxing ring is broadcasting and management. >> the 33-year-old ward retired undefeated with a record of 32 wins, no losses. klay thompson's shooting skills will do a lot of good for the north bay fire victims. tonight the warriors' star finished his points with purpose campaign. it's a pledge to donate $1,000 to the fire victims for each point he scored for three home games. thompson led the team with 29 points tonight against the detroit pistons, adding $29,000 to the donation for a grand total of $69,000. he's also raised more than $300,000 from his fans online. the warriors did lose tonight. we'll see what happens coming up in sports. north bay fires, though, approaching 100% containment and the weather has been cooperating lately. let's find out more about the temperatures from drew tum ma. >> it's been great in the north bay, we have the numbers continuing to rise. and with rain in the forecast,

mother nature is only going to help out even more. live doppler 7 along with satellite, today we had that fog just clinging to the coast. a similar story tonight. that has ushered in a deeper marine layer. the picture outside atop pier 15, yeah, showing you the san francisco skyline, it is chopped in half, so to speak. with that marine layer deepening tonight, i would expect, especially along the coast, a little drizzle to develop. that could last even for the morning commute. its all about that trick or treat forecast we have for those folks. this mummy always reminds me of shu as he dances like that. he's a very good dancer. sun goes down at :12 in the evening on tuesday. dry skies. it will be a chilly night. temperatures in the 50s and 60s. that's what we expect this time of year. get out of here. we'll talk about the rain moving into the forecast by friday night and into the weekend. right now, numbers in the 50s. 53, currently in san francisco.

55 in hayward. 58 in san jose. san rafael at 48 degrees. overnight tonight, numbers won't fall too far from where we are right now. the bigger story is the coastal drizzle developing in spots like half moon bay, even points in the north bay. 52 the low in richmond. 49 in fairfield. those are your starting temperatures out the door the fog will be very slow to pull back to the coast. along with that, some high clouds streaming in from time to time throughout the afternoon. it's not a totally sunny day and it will feel like an autumn crisp day with temperatures only in the 50s and 60s. you'll also notice a breeze is going to kick up. about 10 to 20 miles per hour in the afternoon. that's going to help to usher in the cooler temperatures to round out the day on monday. then take a look at chances of rain as you go through the next seven days. staying zero through thursday and then that chance rapidly rises as you get into friday. those showers that we're forecasting will likely linger into saturday and sunday as well.

has that story. >> reporter: tonight the big question, how did this happen? a west virginia inmate dressed in plain clothes casually walking out of jail. guards not realizing he was missing until two days later. u.s. marshals tracking down 42-year-old todd boyes more than 400 miles away in laredo, texas, and trying to cross the rio grande into mexico. >> this is either an inside job or out and out incompetence. >> reporter: he was supposed to be in court and by then a massive manhunt was under way. these security videos show him at 6:00 in khaki pants and dark pullover as he left this jail. despite multiple head counts, officials say jail staff didn't notice he was missing until 7:00 thursday night, 37 hours later. but this lawyer says jail staff

knew sooner than that. he says he alerted jail officials himself after his client, another inmate at the jail, told him about the escape. >> i had to let the jail know that somebody had escaped from charlie 5. >> reporter: the same thing they are investigating the escape. so far, four prison guards have been suspended without pay. eva pilgrim, abc news, new york. people misplace them all the time. usb memory sticks. one found on a street in london contains some top secret information about keeping world leaders safe. british police say the stick held files detailing queen elizabeth's route to heathrow airport. other files marked restricted and confidential describe security procedures at the airport for visiting world leaders. heathrow airport is reviewing its security plans now following the breach. puerto rico tonight has scrapped that controversial contract with a montana company to get the power back on the island. the $300 million deal with whitefish energy and the

we were there watching these parents using strips of cardboard to cool off their toddlers. these families sitting outside late into the night to stay cool. right now just 29.7% of customers in puerto rico have power, just shy of the projected 30% benchmark for tomorrow, october 30th, that the governor announced earlier. but in question the november 15th deadline of 50% and 95% of power being restored by december 15th. the governor insisting those benchmarks will be met even without whitefish. the head of the agency that manages electricity on the island says the cancellation could delay work for 10 to 12 weeks. puerto rico is reaching out to new york to send workers down to the island to restore the grid and get it back up and working. jenle apple and tasha hugged as "uss ashley" docked in
