abc 7 news. >> if you want to help we have a link at abc7news.com with alice of people, places and organizations providing assistance to the fire victims. side shows and street racing are becoming more frequent in the south bay. last night police made arrest at one of the shows where their own officer was injured. abc 7 reporter janene del vega joins us. what are the people in the community telling you? >> reporter: well, police are telling us they are not going to tolerate this from happening. car enthusiasts say they know there's a police contact down happening and they tell me they actually have look-out people at side shows posted at various locations to warn when police are coming. it's a car community that gets a high by watching this. >> you're right by the cars and

>> the ballot issued will expand a list of crimes for dna. reforms that will allow early parole for nonviolent inmates. two years ago, 32-year-old was walking long san francisco's water front when shot by an immigrant with a stolen gun. abc 7 news report lyanne melendez joins us with all the details. >> reporter: that's exactly right, what path did that follow once that gun was fired, that was discussed today and that's going to be key in this case. the steinle family was in court today and there were moments of tension and sadness today for them. a retired investigator with ballistics and firearm's training told the jury this was no accidental discharge.

john evans, a former crime scene investigator testified the defender pointed the gun in the direction of kate steinle as he was seated and pulled the trigger. both the produce and defense included the bullet ricochetted off the pavement. evans says it happens to inexperienced shooters, they aim to do, miss the trigger and miss the target. evans insisted that jose inez garcia-serrate was trying to shoot in a straight line. that's when the defense argued that impact must have changed the direction of the bullet as mark gonzalez tried to debunk the theory. >> i didn't find it convincing. i think when you hear from our experts they're going to tell you, that bullet hit the concrete and it's not traveling straight anymore.

>> reporter: steinle was 78 feet away when the bullet ricochetted. all calculations have been based on where blood and her bloody clothes were found using a so-called vector national. >> so he's asking you to buy into a vectorial sis without measure to scale. >> reporter: earlier another crime scene investigator testified he transported the gun taken from the waters to the bay of the crime lab. the gun was placed in a special place with bay water inside it. this was done to keep it from being exposed and rusting. lyanne mendes, abc 7 news. russian ads on facebook may have had on the 2016 campaign.

increasing clouds over night with spotty drizzle near the coast. no tricks just a treat for halloween, weather wise. a wet weather pattern developing later this week. the winds, we have a brisk sea breeze with winds gusting to 28 miles per hour at sfo. 27 miles navarro. pretty breezy every where else as well. that breeze will assist the forward movement of those low clouds and fog over the bay. local inland over night. may have spotty drizzle. lows will be mainly in the upper 40s to 50 degrees. segment by segment going into the afternoon. at 2:00 we'll see sunny skies over the bay in inland. nice halloween afternoon. later in the afternoon going into the early evening hours, we'll see the fog pushing a lit to the coastline out to the bay. it'll be cooling down to mainly 50st.
