>> unfortunately, yes. a sig alert for a fatal accident on the east shore freeway just past san pablo dam road. this is a caltrans camera located on the east side but the accident is on the west side of the freeway. one lane remains blocked, three lanes are getting by. they are waiting for the coroner. they've been stuck in traffic waiting for quite some time. traffic is stacked up to hercules so you're looking at about a 45-minute drive from hercules, highway 4 past the scene of the accident and on into the mcarthur maze. you can access from solano avenue not san pablo dam road. that on ramp is shut down due to this fatal accident. mike has a look at your forecast now. i do, sue. what i've been working on are the visibilities. you can see they're getting kind of dangerous in some areas in places like penn grove and petaluma, about half a mile, down to a quarter of a mile in

novato. here we are in san rafael. it hasn't made it this far south and we're looking south towards a clear golden gate bridge commute this morning. temperatures up to 13 degrees cooler. dress accordingly, mid to upper 40s. 59 at the coast. upper 60s at 4:00. 55 to 60 at 7:00. we continue to stay on top of that breaking news from the castro district in san francisco. a police officer and a suspect shot. 18th and castro. and as a result there are now some street closures. amy hollyfield is there live for us this morning. >> reporter: still an active scene. we're standing on mark street looking down diamond, diamond

and 18th. officers still gathering evidence. they want to wait until the sun comes up and then will take some video of the scene. it will be closed off for a few more hours. this happened right after midnight. they're investigating an officer involved shooting here. here in the castro, they say it appears police were looking into an unusual situation when they were attacked. >> were flagged down regarding a suspicious vehicle. there was an exchange of gunfire between the suspect and at least one officer. >> reporter: looks like several shots were fired based on the number of evidence markers out here on the street. the officer and suspect were both taken to the hospital. police have not said what their condition is at this point.

they also haven't said what the possible motive was in this attack. this is all still under investigation and looks like it will be for a while. amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. a fire has damage add train trestle and is impacting train service this morning. >> matt keller on how this will affect the commute. >> they're putting some water on the train trestle just to make sure there are no hot spots here. we have union pacific workers right above us and they're checking out the structural integrity of the tracks this morning. big flames. san jose fire says one of the trucks was driving near by and saw the flames just after 3:00 this morning. you could see how that was possible because the flames are huge burning under the train

trestle. the wooden structure is about 75 to 100 feet from the ground and that's a lot of fuel for the flames. took firefighters about 45 minutes to knock down the fire. minutes to knock down the fire. the biggest hazard is the creosote. damage checking to make sure that it's safe here. we've seen a few trains come through earlier. they had a bridge set up to the station. san jose fire has responded to numerous fires coming from the homeless encampment. firefighters are expected to be out here as they try to put out more hot spots. authorities investigating the truck rampage is an act of terror.

hi, and welcome back. things heating up on twitter between the president and democrat chuck schumer. just a short while ago the new york senator fired back at the president. i want to show you his tweet from this morning. it says, quote, i guess it's not too soon to politicize a tragedy. if you joined us earlier, the president blamed schumer for the visa program that allowed the new york city terror suspect into the united states from uzbekistan. he came to the u.s. through the diversity visa lottery, it's a program schumer supported. it was later part of a broader immigration act approved by a bipartisan congress and signed into law by president george h.w. bush. natasha? posters and stickers from a white supremacist group were

found on stanford's campus according to stanforddaily.com. take a look at your television. these are what several law students found monday. most have been since taken down. they're from a supremacist group pushing for a utopian homeland for whites. they participated in white national protests over the fall which sparked violent protests in charlottesville, virginia. fairfield police save add girl from being forced to work as a prostitute. the 16-year-old was spotted friday night. detectives were able to speak with her and found she was a runaway from fresno. the girl had been trafficked in miami, atlanta, chicago, las vegas, oakland, and then san jose. through the conversation the girl identified 38-year-old johnson as her pimp. johnson was arrested at his home in fairfield. the girl is being eunited with her family. you can enroll in obamacare for 2018. the department of health and

human services reports 80% of americans can get a 2018 plan for less than $75 a month. rising premium subsidies will make many plans on the exchanges more affordable. open enrollment runs through december 15th and most states ran until january 21st. house republicans plan to release their final version of the tax reform bill tomorrow. it was supposed to be released today but differences over key provisions delayed the deadline by a day. lawmakers worked late into the night despite president trump's claim it remains to be seen whether the plan will amount to the biggest tax cut ever. to the north bay where halloween was all about the treats and no tricks for families affected by the wildfires. >> several neighborhoods shared the spirit of halloween. a hero's halloween. it was a chance for hundreds of displaced families to have some fun. the downtown area was a neighborhood for trick-or-treaters with merchants

we may wake up to slick streets. a tenth to a quarter inch by friday evening and a quarter to half inch by saturday. about two-thirds of an inch to an inch and a half by monday. we could have some debris flows. temperatures in the 50s and 60s this weekend. sue? all right. we still have this sig alert most of the morning commute in san pablo with a fatal accident westbound 80 near san pablo dam road. better news is four lanes are now open. just the on ramp lane is blocked with emergency crews and they're trying to get that tow truck there so they can get that car out of the lane. so they still have a sig alert in effect with a ginormous traffic jam up here for about an hour drive from hercules past the scene on into the bay shore freeway and the mcarthur maz maz 60 minutes the last estimate to get to the toll plaza. sbld 85, both directions slowing

francisco police. they say the officer and the suspect are both in surgery right now. they told us the officer shot is 41 years old. all we know about the suspect is he is an adult man. look at the crime scene right now going on behind me, an investigation still under way. you're looking at 18th and diamond. you can see officers still have the area roped off, still getting a good look at the area and will be here for a while. they want to wait until the sun comes up to get a good look and get some video. this happened just after midnight. someone told police about a suspicious car so they went up to the car. they say someone inside started shooting. an officer returned fire. they don't know why this person opened up fire on the police. they don't know if anyone else was in the car. these officers were part of the halloween patrol. they brought in extra officers into the area because of the holiday. these officers were on foot patrol. they're asking anyone with any cell phone video to please bring

tourists, for new yorkers here, and makes it an ideal location for a would-be terrorist. the terror began around 3:00 in the afternoon on halloween in lower manhattan. police say 29-year-old sayfullo saipov, an uzbekistan immigrant who had been living in paterson, new jersey, deliberately drove a rented home depot truck on to a bike and pedestrian path targeting people and running them over. >> we have multiple casualties. this is a mass casualty situation here. >> reporter: his truck eventually colliding with a school bus, injuring the two adults and two children onboard before coming to a stop just blocks away from the world trade center memorial. the fbi and the nypd are now urging the public to share any videos or images that could help in the investigation like this cell phone video that shows the driver limping after getting out of his truck, holding what turned out to be two fake guns. witnesses telling abc news he shouted allah akbar before being shot by an officer.

investigators searching his activities have found social media links to people who are or were subjects of terror investigations. however, the portrait emerging so far is of someone who found isis propaganda online with no sense that he was part of a cell. reporting live in new york, stephanie ramos, abc 7 mornings. stephanie, thank you. and that driver of that rented truck did work for uber. uber releasing the staple, we are horrified by this senseless act of violence. our hearts are with the victims and their families. we have reached out to law enforcement to provide our full assistance. when i say he worked for uber, i meant to say he was a contractor, a driver for the service. the top of the empire state building was lit in red, white, and blue in honor of the victims. the #nycstrong is trending on twitter as new yorkers share their thoughts and prayers. and we will continue to track the story and any impact it may have here in the bay area. the latest news with the free

abc 7 news app. also "good morning america" will have live team coverage from new york city coming up at 7:00 a.m. right after abc 7 mornings. developing news out of oakland where the search is on for a gunman who opened fire at a huge halloween party that took place near broadway around 11:00 last night. at least two people were hurt. the victims were able to take themselves to the hospital. and developing news, speed may to be blame for a crash that left one person dead in walnut creek. witnesses tell police they saw two cars traveling fast westbound just after 9:00 on treat boulevard. the cars collided into each other and wound up against a tree. in addition to the person killed, two others were hurt and taken to the hospital. that closed all lanes between bancroft and cherry lane for several hours. executives from google, facebook and twitter back in the hot seat on capitol hill. they're going to continue their testimony into russia's involvement in the 2016 presidential election.

workers are looking at that damage check to go make sure it's safe. caltrain has started single tracking in the area. they say there are no delays because of that. firefighters are expected to be out here for a while making sure the hot spots are out. reporting live, matt keller, abc 7 news. it is 6:46 in sunnyvale a. suspect and police dog are dead after officers responded to a stabbing incident. the initial call was for a stabbing at an apartment on east wettle drive near fair oaks drive near the bay shore freeway. sunnyvale officers located the suspect just after 1:00 yesterday afternoon saying he was armed and uncooperative. at one point he stabbed a police dog. officers shot the man. a female stabbing victim was hospitalized with nonlife threatening injuries. the police dog died of its wounds. eight people are facing charges following a small but tense protest at cal state fullerton. a scuffle with a handful of

let's take a look at what's happening thursday at 8:00. you can see heading for the north bay a few showers. some drizzle, some spotty, light rain. it becomes steadier during the afternoon, evening and overnight. if you have plans saturday afternoon into the evening hours like some people getting married or birthday parties, looks dry right now. sunday at noon, steadier. light to moderate moves into the north bay. slowly moves through the bay and out. we wake up friday morning. areas not with measurable drizzle. about a tenth to a quarter of an inch. saturday morning, a quarter to half an inch. by the time we get to monday morning about two-thirds of an inch where we may have issues with the debris flows. the fires will be out but may have some flooding.
