potentially involved in terrorism. but saipov was never the focus of any investigation. according to police, he came in 2010 from uzbekistan. he lived in florida and most recently in paterson, new jersey. >> we never feared anything because he had a family, too. authorities are beefing up security and asking the public to step up. >> that's 17 million extra eyes and ears and gut feelings that can be vigilant on behalf of all of us. >> reporter: they say there was nothing to suggest that saipov was part of a terrorist cell and working behalf of isis and right now there is no greater threat working in new york city. >> 28-year-old ryan nash fired shot that took down saipov. to be totally accurate here, that bus crash occurred at the end after the bike path. the officer was humbled today when he spoke to the media about being called a hero.

officer is in critical condition after a shooting in the castro district early this morning. a suspect was also injured. >> this all began with an investigation into a suspicious vehicle. melanie woodrow is live at police headquarters where they finished up a news conference. >> one of those new details that we learned this afternoon is that vehicle, that suspicious vehicle was reportedly stolen. we also just got an update on the officer's condition. here's what san francisco police had to say about that. >> one officer, a 41-year-old male, 9-year veteran of the department, currently assigned to the crime scene investigations unit was struck by gunfire. the officer underwent surgery and is currently listed in stable condition. >> the suspect is in life threatening condition, according to authorities. a firearm was recovered at the

abc7 news. >> thank you. california's new gas tax is in effect. here's video of a gas station in san jose on the left. the price yesterday. on the right, we have the price today reflecting a 12 center per gallon jump. the increase is expected to raise more than $5.2 billion a year. that will be used to improve mass transit, roads and bridges. supporters say they're willing to pay a little extra as long as the work actually gets done. some lawmakers are trying to repeal it. >> it is already causing angry confrontations in the east bay. in dublin this morning, construction workers faced off with those protesting the increase. it happened as local officials and the workers were highlighting transportation agreements coming to the east bay. $40 million from the gas tax like will go toward easing congestion on interstate 680.

mainly in the north bay and the golden gate there. we'll see clear skies. tomorrow on, increasing clouds and becoming mostly cloudy. the highs will range from about 60 at the coast to only low to mid 60s. we have a series of rain makers coming our way. these will be storms of light intensity. but the rainfall adds up. we'll see light the moderate rainfall. a quarter of an inch for most locations and more than an inch to an inch and a half in the hills. starting tomorrow. actually, friday morning at 3:00 a.m. and at that point we'll see scattered light rainfall developing and beginning to sweep through bay area into the replied morning hours. and later we'll see the rain become more widespread and more concentrat concentrated. it continues overnight into early saturday. then we have a bit of a gap
