fellow student at the continuation high school. we are not identifying him until police officially do so. offers just reopened the street within the last ten minutes. i want to show you video of the crime scene. it is further down the street at salve owe and beach street. police say around 1:30 this afternoon a plaque car pulled up, a four-door car, someone got out, approached the group of people at the intersection, and that included the victim. we don't know what was said or any sort of confrontation. we do know the victim was shot. there were several evidence markers at the scene. witnesses tell us they heard four shots. from there the victim ran on to campus to flee the scene. he was transported to a local hospital and later a come to his

discarded restraints and a handcuff key. here's the picture that was tweeted showing that handcuff key left outside the courthouse by those inmates. they were wearing orange and gray jail uniforms, it's unknown if they were armed. take a good look at these two men, 47-year-old john bivins, and 46-year-old jamel mcclough. >> it appears they were able to come out of the courtroom, into the hallway and able to get to one of the exit points, at which point there was a car waiting for them where they were able to jump into the car. >> reporter: it's john known if there was a driver in the get away car or if the keys were left inside. sheriff's say the suspect drove it to the next street over and dumped it. witnesses say they jumped into a

sheriff department appeal requires weapons be safety secured. >> they need to do what the ordinance says, lock everything up. >> reporter: a bullet proof vest was also stolen. the fbi says the sergeant serves on their join terrorist task force but the guns and ammo was not fbi issued. it's the sixth theft from police officers in the bay area since 2013. the gun used to kill indicate steinle in 2013 was stolen from an officers car in san francisco. the mayor made it a law for police officers to lock cars. >> if you're going to secure handguns and you're a law enforcement official you have to secure every one of your weapons because they all can kill. >> reporter: the search still

continues for the weapons. an interview with us declined. the man accused of killing the trigger in the steinle case is on trial right now. today a firearm's expert was brought in by the defense to bolster their case that the shooting was an incident. wi lyanne live on day four with the trial details. >> reporter: the defense argued when that bullet ricochetted it tumbled and followed a different course. they maintained he was not aiming the gun at steinle. james norrie worked in describe labs, his area of expertise, firearms. first he testified the trigger pull of the gun used to shoot

kate steinle was light, the defense has argued the shooting was accidental. >> if someone was to grab it or if it caught an article of clothing it could discharge. >> the defendant told police he found the stolen gun at the.and it went off when he stepped on it. later he admitted to holding the gun wrapped in a piece of cloth and examining it when it went off. the prosecutor had maintained he had the gun with hum all along and aimed it at steinle who was 18 feet away. norris was asked if a person could aim a gun at someone and accurately hit the target if the bullet ricochetted first. not likely he says. >> there's no way to predict a

boy isn't this incredible if you're watching a life saving moment as police and firefighters and other rescuers rescue a man from a burning car in southern california over the weekend. the driver dozed off, missed a turn, jump the curb and flipped over. the driver was unconscious. three offers pried open the door and pulled out that driver. his shoes were even on fire. he was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive. wednesday will mark one

month since the north bay wild fire started and today a sign of recovery. the luther burbank center for the arts in santa rosa officially reopened. abc 7 news visited last week. the main auditorium survived the fires. a west wing did not. seven employees lost their homes. the center had to close seven dozen shows because of the fire and will refund all the tickets. the center will resume performances on thursday. the sales force is using its annual dream force conference to help raise money for the north bay center. 171,000 people expected to attend this week long event. the conference shuts down howard sweet between third and fourth streets. inside the company created a national park field to coordinate with this year's
