good morning. i'm diane macedo. >> i'm kendis gibson. here's a look at our top headlines on "world news now." authorities say the shooter behind the texas church massacre was there to kill everybody. the air force admits that it failed to report the suspect's criminal history, a move that would have blocked him from buying the murder weapon. vice president mike pence is heading to sutherland springs, texas tomorrow. pence is set to meet with families of the church shooting families and law enforcement officers who responded at the scene. and it's election day. there's only one federal office up for grabs today. a congressional seat in utah. but new jersey and virginia are electing. and investigators in japan are trying to figure out why this candy dispensing drone suddenly lurched on its side

midair, plunging into a crowd of people. it all happened at a robot festival. six people suffered minor injuries. those are some of our top stories on this tuesday, november 7th. from abc news, this is "world news now." >> and we do say good morning, everyone on this tuesday. we're going to start this half hour with a horrific church shooting and the man who heroically brought it to an end. >> we're now hearing from the church neighbor who heard the gunman and pursued him for miles. investigators say the shooter was bent on inflicting maximum harm. he fired off 450 rounds. and the air force has now acknowledged that it failed to flag the suspect's criminal past. abc's maggie rulli has more. >> i can tell you that the scene in there is horrific. there's not even a word to describe it. >> reporter: after watching a video of the massacre inside this church, law enforcement officials say without a doubt, the shooter intended to kill as many people as possible. >> i think he came here with a

purpose and a mission. >> reporter: roseanne silvis survived the mass shooting. gunshot wound to her shoulder. she watched as the gunman opened fire. >> people screaming and people crying and mama, where are you? where are you? the little kids. there were a lot of children. i saw bodies with a lot of blood. that's all i saw, because i wasn't about to get out from where i was hiding. >> reporter: officials confirm the killing spree started as a domestic dispute, the shooter targeting his mother-in-law who goes to the church. authorities say he had 15 magazines, firing off every single one. only stopping when a neighbor steven wilford stepped in firing and hitting the shooter. >> i just wish i could have gotten there faster. i'm no hero, i am not. >> reporter: but to this small town of 400, that's exactly what he is a hero. and confirmed the gunman was

shot twice by willeford. there are questions about how the shooter was able to legally buy these guns with his past of domestic abuse. and the discharge from the air force. we're now learning the air force never gave this information to the fbi. diane and kendis. >> a big part of this investigation. and family and friends of those lost in the attack came out to honor them last night. the 26 victims were honored with songs and prayers. >> the loss for one family is unimaginable. eight members of the holcombe family were killed. they span three generations. an unborn child was among them. >> 14 people are still hospitalized, a dozen in critical condition. one of those fighting for his life is a 5-year-old boy. >> now, as you know, the texas attack loomed over the president's stop in japan yesterday but today the primary concern for the president is north korea. >> he's now in south korea, and

and abc's karen travers joins us now from seoul live. good morning, karen. >> reporter: good morning. the nuclear threat from north korea looms very large. president trump is spending his day 35 miles from the border between north korea and south korea. north korea pledged to increase its nuclear power in response to what it says are hostile acts by the united states and its allies. before a briefing before military commanders, president trump expressed confidence in what he says will happen with north korea. >> tell always works out, it has to work out. >> reporter: and the region is anxiously watching to see what president trump has to say and what kim jong un does to get his attention. there was a grand arrival ceremony at south korea's blue house. the residence of president moon. it was a friendly welcome ahead of what could be some very tense meetings. the two presidents agree on

increasing pressure and sanctions on north korea. but president moon also wants to increase diplomatic dialogue. president trump has criticized that as appeasement. one thing president trump will not be doing is visiting the dmz, between north and south korea. the white house chalked it up to scheduling issues but also said it's becoming a bit of a cliche to go there, noting that secretary of defense mattis and secretary of state tillerson and the vice president have all been there this year. diane, kendis. >> not visiting the demilitarized zone. karen, in japan, the president seemed to get along very well with shinzo abe. how is rapport with president moon? >> reporter: we won't see the same social interactions as we did in japan. no golf is scheduled between president trump and president moon. it's a tense relationship. they have a very different approach to how to handle this threat from north korea. that's going to be a big part of the meetings.

there's also differences on trade. president trump has threatened to pull out of a u.s./south korean trade agreement. there's a lot of anxiety in the region about the president's aggressive rhetoric toward north korea and what that might mean. but diane and kendis, so far, the president has been very muted. we haven't heard one reference yet to little rocket man. >> oh, but it's early in the trip there, karen. i do want to point out that fall foliage is at peak there in seoul. >> yeah, beautiful behind you. hope you get a chance to enjoy it, we know you're busy. and another report has surfaced linking a trump campaign aide to russia. a transcript noted that carter page told the house intelligence committee that he alerted several campaign officials about a planned trip to russia last summer when he was with the campaign. it was revealed last week that he told attorney general sessions about the trip and he informed corey lewandowski and hope hicks who is now the white house communications director.

he says he met with russia's deputy prime minister and an e-mail promised a read out after he returned. turns out, a record number of people are reportedly signing up for brey, despite the trump administration's cutbacks in advertising for the program. sources tell the "hill" newspaper that more than 200,000 people selected a plan on the first day of open enrollment. it's twice as much as last year, but it's too early to predict the final signup numbers. and there is a new health challenge for senator john mccain. the 81-year-old tore his achilles tendon over the weekend. it's unclear how the injury took place. mccain is also battling brain cancer. and tweeted out i can't tell you how much i hate wearing this boot. the country's attorney general in saudi arabia says the arrests were part of an anti-corruption purge and it's far from every. the arrests were ordered by the 35-year-old prince.

found unresponsive at a house offcampus. he was reportedly given medical treatment but died on the scene. >> coffey's death comes amid a disturbing uptick. >> reporter: a pledge found dead after a night of partying. >> unfortunately, when medical personnel got here, they determined the person to be deceased. all attempts to revive the person were unsuccessful. >> reporter: authorities confirm the pi kappa phi fraternity threw an off-campus party here friday night. the brothers called for help. police find andrew coffey dead inside the home. the cause still under investigation. the national pi kappa office suspending them. the vice president waiting on more details about the death releasing a statement saying we will work closely with the tallahassee police department as it investigates to find the facts surrounding this case.
