so let's talk about taking the ferry from vallejo to san francisco this morning. >> as sue just said you will be on that bus, engine trouble left a san francisco bay ferry boat with 300 passengers stranded for two hours last night. you are looking at photos from some of the commuters. the ferry was headed from san francisco to vallejo when both of its engines stalled. a tugboat had to tow it home. a bus bridge will be in place for the 7:00 a.m. run for vallejo to san francisco and the 8:15 run from san francisco to vallejo. happening today, former first lady michelle obama will be in san francisco. >> he is this morning's keynote speaker at the sales force dream force convention. tiffany wilson is live outside moss coney center. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. michelle obama is expected to draw quite a crowd this morning, five rooms including a movie theater have been set aside for attendees who wish to hear from the former first lady, however, details about her keynote have been kept quiet.

there are key races in the country, in new jersey voters will elect a new governor and a major race in virginia, republicans are hoping to put ed gillespie in the governors mansion, democrats would like to see a democrat replace jason chaffetz. in new york mayor bill de blasio is likely headed towards reelection. concord police are looking for a gunman who killed a high school student near his school. >> this happened yesterday afternoon near olympic high school. friends shared this photo and identified the victim as lawrence jansen. someone got out of a black sedan and shot the boy who was standing with a group of friends. he ran back to the campus where the staff tried to treat his injuries but he died later at the hospital. officers say the teen was rgt at that targeted and shot multiple time. two santa clara inmates are still on the run this morning. tra mel mcclough and john bivins are facing lengthy sentences for armed robbery.

they went through an emergency exit and got into a waiting car. they say the pair ditched the car a few blocks away and took off in a u-haul cargo van. the man are considered to be armed and dangerous. 4:36. a new twist this morning in the harvey weinstein scandal. "the new yorker" reports that he hired private investigators to collect information on the women accusing him of sexual harassment and abuse. one of the companies was operated by former israeli intelligence officers. the report says an investigator pretended to be a women's rights advocate to meet with rose mcgowan who access weinstein of rape. weinstein also reportedly hired a freelance journalist to interview his accusers and report back to him. today the defense if the in the trial of the man accused of killing kate steinle will show video from a distance on pier 14. the defense brought in a firearms expert to bolster the case that the shooting was an accident. the prosecution maintains josé ines garcia zarate aimed the gun

at steinle 90 feet away but the bullet ricocheted and traveled and hit steinle in the back. the firearms expert said it's not likely a person could aim a gun at someone and hit the target if the bullet ricocheted first. happening today an extremely rare move to help north bay fire victims. >> sonoma county supervisors and the santa rosa city council will meet jointly to tackle recovery housing and homelessness. long-term affordable housing has become a bigger issue since last month's fires destroyed homes. city and county leaders are expected to discuss using tax revenue to rebuild. with the homeless rate three times the national average they are expected to discuss a possible redesign in the way governments provide services. the luther burbank center for the arts in santa rosa will resume performances on thursday. abc 7 news visited the center last week. the main auditorium survived the flames but an east wing filled with classroom and smaller auditorium did not. seven employees lost homes.

the center had to cancel half a dozen shows. the wildfires may be out but we are all aware of the struggle remains for people affected with so much loss there is a long road to recovery ahead and still so many emotional stories to share. tomorrow abc 7 news is dedicating a day to the north bay wildfires one month later. we will have special coverage in every newscast and on abc7news.com. we're starting to get a little bit concerned with the rain that's coming in tomorrow night into thursday, maybe a little bit he heavier up over the burn areas than what we originally thought yesterday. i will show you that coming up in the big weather. let's talk about this morning, right now if you live in this area of blue, keep the pets inside and keep those plants protected until about 8:00 because we still have that frost advisory going on. let's take a look at one of the warmer areas around and that is san francisco where it's 47 in west portal, glen park, ocean beach, sunny side and lake merced at 48, the castro and

washington, new york or anywhere with an election today? consider this my personal ask, nudge or plea for you to go to the polls and vote. of course we will have much more on election day throughout the morning. san francisco supervisors are moving slowly to pass any regulations on recreational pot sales despite it becoming legal already on january 1st. a board committee heard hours of testimony yesterday and among the big issues, where new pot clubs will be allowed to open. some people wanted to ban them been 1,000 feet of schools, others prefer a 600 foot limit. supervisors decided to continue the discussion next week. state lawmakers will consider a bill aimed at encouraging people to collect more rain water. the ballot measure would exclude rain water capture systems from property tax reassessments which typically increase a tax bill. the measure has to go on the ballot because it involves property taxes. could go on next november's ballot if lawmakers approve it. mt. roast tahoe says it will be the first resort to open for

next seven days. today's temperatures, 59 at half-moon bay and 63 to 65 around the bay and about 63 to 67 inland. so again another narrow margin of temperatures. if we see some clouds it will be mainly across the north bay. the clouds will increase tonight and look at the temperatures, yeah, considerably milder than this morning from mid 40s to mid 50s instead of mid 30s. we will be about ten degrees warmer tomorrow morning or milder, if you will. here is a look at that impressive system, look at that cold air behind it, all the moisture coming at us. it's going to dump most of its wet weather up to the north, that's why i'm worried about the north bay just a little bit, those burn scar areas. we wake up tomorrow morning we're starting to see a few light rain areas up across the north bay. that's probably it until we see scattered showers during the day. then 4:00 it looks like the storm has maybe spread up just a little bit according to this model. 4:00 some scattered showers and then it becomes a little more

san francisco in the form of drizzle, but the steadier rain is across the north bay. during the overnight hours into thursday's morning commute that's when we will see the bulk of the wet weather fall. as far as any snow you can see it starts snowing about 12:00 a.m. thursday up in the sierra. by 9:00 that morning a couple inches. so be careful there. sue. let's take a look at your san jose commute. we will go first to 101, those headlines headed in the northbound direction this is the 880 overcrossing, traffic a flowing nicely. 280 at 17/880 overcrossing head lights north towards cupertino an eight minute drive from san jose into cupertino. speaking of drive times let's take a look at some if you're heading out right now, not a bad time to be on the roads. santa rosa to petaluma under 15 minutes, 580 from castro valley to the maze under 15 minutes and san jose 101 from the 280/680 junction to 85 just over ten minutes. starting today people in las

vegas will be able to ride the first driverless shuttle to operate on public roads in the country. >> yeah, take a look at the youtube video. it shows the shuttle developed by a french company tested last january on a closed street in vegas. it does have a human attendant and computer monitor but no steering wheel and no brake pedals. i'm not sure what the human attendant would do if there's an emergency stop button or how that works, but the shuttle can carry up to ten passengers and uses gps and other technology to safely ferry people around. >> there's enough foolishness going on in las vegas, i don't need that. okay? next at 5:00, a new report answers the question whether self driving cars make our roads safer. >> plus details on a great event today to help find jobs for those displaced by the north bay wildfires. and this morning the president in south korea but he is still answering questions on gun control here in the u.s. after that deadly texas church shooting. what he said next.
