valley rec center with more. >> this is community center behind me where the meeting will be held. as you know, it has become protocol, after every officer involved shooting, the police chief holds a town hall meeting in that neighborhood where that shooting occurred. now, this one tonight is no different. except that police are still looking for a couple of possible on suspects. >> in this neighborhood, you don't expect bullets. you just don't. >> but there were. shortly after midnight, november 1st. as the massive halloween party was winding down in the castro. >> it seems like there were at least 20 to 30 shots. it was a lot. >> the evidence markers were testimony to what jim heard. he lives across the street from a shooting at 18th and diamond streets. it left one of the officers and the suspect in critical condition. the officer is now listed as table. the suspect was booked on his hospital bed on attempted murder

and other charges related to the incident. the investigation is still active. police are looking for two or three possible accomplices who carjacked a taxi cab near castro and market after the shooting. the carjackers left the cab in the middle of oakwood street. an alley near mission delores park. joe lives in a unit behind the gate. >> it was wide open. and there were police officers all up and down my driveway. it looks like the person or people who ran here jumped over the fence. >> castro residents we spoke with say halloween has gotten out of control. drawing undesirables to an annual celebration used to be fun and safe. >> people were getting stabbed. people, graffiti was everywhere. windows were getting broken. that stuff never happened. it was just the neighborhood people doing it. >> now that town hall meeting starts in about two hours. since this is an active

investigation. we really don't know how much information police will release to the public here tonight. just how much detail they'll go into. nevertheless, the meeting starts here at the community center at 6:00. abc7 news. >> all right. many thanks. the case against two men charged in the ghost ship fire was back this court today. derrek and max are facing 36 counts of involuntary he manslaughter. that's a count for each victim of last december's fire. the defense attorney claims his client is falsely charged. >> this scapegoat. blame it on him. don't blame it on the land lord, don't blame it on the fire department. blame it on the one who has the lease. that's a bunch of baloney. >> the preliminary hearing is set for next month.

>> baseball fans are mourning the death of a former major leaguer. the eight-time pitcher roy halladay died in a plane crash today. we'll show you the video when he bought his plane in 2016. knits solano county. in his prime, he was dominant in baseball. this is the latest tragedy involving this plane. two people died when a similar plane crashed back in may. the man affectionately known as mr. costco has died. he was loved by customers at costco san ramon's store for his warm smile, sense of humor and his kind heart. we first told you about him go two years ago after he learned he had terminal cancer. a group treated him to a trip to hawaii. despite his diagnosis and his battle with multiple sclerosis

multiple scleros, he worked tirelessly to help others. he was 48 years old. we might be seeing a major change with car pool alleges in the bay area. caltrans and the metropolitan traffic commission are considering changing the rules on certain highways, requiring at least three people in a vehicle. according to caltrans, two thirds of local car pool lanes moved too slowly to meet federal requirements. our media partner. the two are 880, 237 and parts of highway 101. the report says drivers shouldn't expect changes any time soon. one of the exits at b.a.r.t.'s station is closed. the crews blocked it off so they can work on a canopy. they say it will protect passengers and the escalators from the elements as well as provide an extra layer of

aloha's last 747 passenger flight is retracing its very first 747 flight from san francisco international to honolulu. but not without a small delay. an issue with the air conditioning held up take off for nearly an hour today. the plane is scheduled to land in just about 45 minutes. abc7 news is on board and will have a live report for you later on this evening. that 747 helped transform air

will bring us some updates later on. we should point out this is not the last 747 flight ever. it is tonight last 747 from united sfo. it is still used by other airlines. from planes to cars, a major step for google's self-driving car company. it is now testing its vehicles on public roads with only an employee in the back seat. so no longer anybody behind the wheel. it is owned by alphabet, google's parent company. this began last month in the suburb of chandler. we have seen the reporter. you've been covering google and lift and stefl driving cars. this is called level four autonomy. what is that? >> yes, level four autonomy is cars that have no driver at all. so a lot of these self-driving cars, you see them, you see

>> right. the state of arizona has been really open to this type of technology. when yooubl was kicked out of california last december for its self-driving cars, it went to arizona. but california has definitely made some steps in the direction of loosening the rules around self-driving cars. in fact, last month it passed a new rule that will allow for cars without a safety driver. the companies need to go through a few loopholes to get permission to do that. >> what is the ultimate goal? i suppose it would be to have a tunnel of self-driving cars on all roads all over the place. >> right. this is the business. the car industry is a trillion-dollar industry. and so there's that. but waymo says it will be safer. could it reduce traffic congestion. and ideally, pollution. so throws the benefits. >> real quick, so you've been
